On arrival into Puerto vallarta after a terrible 15 1/2 hour journey we were not impressed to be told that we could not disembark the plane until we had completed a customs card which we were later told should have been handed out during the flight(which was long enough for even the less educated to complete).

After leaving the plane we were submitted to a further hold up at customs control where to be honest there seemed to be no order with which you were dealt with thus it became a FREE FOR ALL with people everywhere.

We finally arrived at our Hotel to an efficient and friendly welcome with a very much needed welcome drink waiting for us

As it was such a long journey we only had time for a quick look around the Hotel before the need for sleep became to overwhelming.

Our first impression of the resort was as expected from the brochure but this time first impressions did'nt last,we soon realised that our room had no bath (detailed in brochure)which with a 2 year old child and only a shower was going to cause problems i must say that this was reported to the rep and a suitable arrangement was made this being the only complaint that we made to be rectified.

1 week before we departed we received a letter from our travel agent advising that certain restaurants had been changed a minor change which we thought nothing else of until we arrived and found out why.

It became apparent that a Hurricane had hit the area in OCT 2002 and had caused major damage to the Hotel something that we were not advised of before departure

I must say the work the people had done in such a short length of time was amazing but the Hotel still had a long way to go until back up to scratch, never been to the resort before it was obvious by the amount of work still going on:

work men drilling, sawing, hammering not to mention the painting going on with no warning signs, my wife entered the kids club area barefoot (as we were sitting by the kids pool)only to have the soles of her feet covered in red paint, staff had to clean them with turpintine !!

We reported all our problems to the First choice rep only to be told that it was ";routine maintance"; and as the Hotel was open all year it was on going throughout the year, i must add that while we were there (which unfortunatly was for 3 weeks)the Hotel was transformed with new loungers arriving, new tiling all over the resort and one restaurant that was closed been almost completed and ready for opening with new AIR CONDITIONING UNITS fitted at 3am on the managers orders!!!

The food was disgusting and repeatative and the attitude of the restaurant staff left a lot to be desired, on one occasion we reported MITES around the griddle area to the restaurant manager, only to witness him squash them with his finger and walk away.

The entertainment on site leaves a lot to be desired with a painfully irritating keyboard player who plays at full volume, the saving grace was the fact that entertainment was organised over the road at the FACTORY CLUB with the shows been outstanding and the drinks been decent.

This was the first time we have been away for 3 weeks and unfortunatly it was to here, it is not very nice to be pleased your holiday is over but all the family felt the same.

If you go to this resort take plenty of money (not for the beach traders, of which there must be 100's)but for eating out of the Hotel and for excursions(you will need to go on trips to escape the noise!!!)

Overall a holiday that we wish we had never had the only good thing i can say about the place is the weather was good and we got a tan but what a price to pay for a sun tan
