Beautiful hotel with lovley staff, all very freindly and helpful,Very large complex,so you need to be fairly fit.I had some jewellry stolen on arrival so be wary of leaving your case unattended. The beach is amazing, pure paradise, and very relaxing. All restaurants are nice, but menus are a bit samey, however food is of very good quality. The pools are fab,the whole areas are spotless. The pool at the centre was extremely noisy with the animation team,a bit 18 to30s,which spoilt the peace and quiet for us.Thompsona are selling this as a platinum holiday, which it is not, until june 09,so dont be tricked like we were,The rep,Beth is lovely.
Didnt see the resort area, only the hotel complex,

We stayed at the Riviera Princess which has a mirror side called the Sunset Princess. The resort is massive, it takes 10 minutes to walk from reception to the beach. Rooms are excellent and large. We booked a junior suite but were upgraded by the hotel to a de luxe junior on arrival. It is only 3 floors high and is all set in tropical gardens with lagoons in the centre. The hotel is away from the major traffic areas like Playacar thank goodness - but hotel runs free shuttles to Playa del carmen each day. For those that prefer taxi it costs USD 13 each way. The cost to Xcaret using a taxi is about USD22. Beach is excellent and safe - and loads of loungers for all. Pools are very good, you have several to choose from whether you prefer noisy or quiet. Main buffets are bedlam at mealtimes, eat early to avoid the rush - or book into one of the many a la carte restaurants. We ate breakfast and lunch at La Tortuga restaurant by the beach in the end - to avoid the hassles of the main buffet. Food is very good overall although the worst meal of the holiday for us was at the Las Olas seafood restaurant - slow service and food overcooked. We walked out when desert was served up. All bar staff and maids are excellent and animation team work hard. Very few english at resort - mostly USA and Canada. Hotel has ATM machines in each reception area which are very useful. We used mostly USD the whole time we were in Mexico, pay with USD and get pesos in change. It worked fine for us. We tipped USD2 a time to all maids and waiter staff. This resort is best for a mix of relaxing holiday break with occasional trips. Beware of the floors, they are marble everywhere and slippery.
We went to Tulum, Chichenitza, Coba, Aktun Chen, Xcaret and Cozumel Atlantis Submarine. All were well worth the money. In all it was a great holiday. We went on 18th May for 2 weeks and weather was around 90 most of the time. The last few days were wet, but...
