What can I say. An earthquake flattened it in 1960 and it certainly seems they never got around to rebuilding

Morocco, Morocco, Morocco!! What can i say. Mmmmm, lovely weather. Agadir was poor. Wouldn't want to be there on a wet Sunday afternoon. The Beach was the saving point, the finest sand that we have ever seen and really well maintained. The work being done in resort is coming to an end and when done will make the place look really good. Not a lot to see or do in Agadir. we went out for a meal on our last night and that was really good. Other than that take a scrabble board with you. watch the locals too, everything seems to have a price. Impromptu massages (don't ask!) asking directions! Looking someone in the eye seems to be an invitaion to pay them something!!

Agadir is a good starting place if you've never been to Morocco, it was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1960 which devastated the whole town. Tourism was the key to the rebuilding programme. It has 10Km of beach and a promenade preading from the kasbah upto the Sofitel hotel although part of this has only recently been constructed. There are mant restaurants to cater for all palates, Indian, Chinese, French, Italian, and of course Moroccan. You can eat at one of the more up-market restaurants like Le Jazz or La Scala or in some of the smaller Moroccan restaurants in the Talborjt district for relatively little outlay, typically 45Dh (Dirhams) or €4.5/£4.00. There are nightclubs here but most are withing hotels and really Agadir is more a place for relaxing rather than partying, in spite of this being a Mediterranean style resort. There are not a great deal of sights to see but chief amonst these are the kasbah (fortress) visible for miles around and illuminated during the night-time and the large market known as Souk al Had (which is closed on Mondays). Agadir is more a centre from which people go on day trips to Marrakech, Essaouira up the coast, Taroudant where one will see the famous tree climbing Argan goats (as in the HSBC advert), Tiznit and Tafraout. Proper trips into the desert are not possible as this is just too far away.

The resort itself was pretty average really. However, we did not venture out much as we were put off by the people trying to drag you in to back street shops.

Agadir has a clean spacious beach with new build promenade, very popular with locals and tourists. Lots of restaurants including MacDonalds and Pizza Hut, not much in the way of shops, but a trip to the souk is well worth it.

The hotel itself was very clean especially for the size of it. The entertainment team are very good and provide all of the entertainment themselves and work very hard however it could do with some alternative acts brought in just to add a bit variety. The water park attached to the hotel is also very good. My are 8 and 4 and thouroughly enjoyed going every day. Now for the bad bits !! This hotel is not for British guests in our opinion. It caters for the Germans, Russians and French first and these nationalities make it very obvious that they resent the British being there. Grown men elbowing 8 year old children out of the way to get to the kids' chips isnt our idea of a great holiday, blatant queue jumping for the drinks, and towels on the sunbeds from 11.30pm!!! Get a life you are on holiday and it isnt a soup kitchen!!! This hotel also allows the other two neighbouring hotels to use their facilities resulting in 20 minute queues at the restaurant whatever the meal time. Id say if you had no kids, it was last minute and very cheap then this would be the holiday for you. We arent a fussy family and believe that a holiday is what you make of it however this was by far the worst holiday both as a couple and a family we have ever had. As for the comments on the planes yes they do seem as though they are about to land on your hotel but the transfer is short ( 10mins ) and after the first day you really dont pay that much attention........

"Could have been warmer, but it was Feb!!"

Overall Resort Rating:

Average

Open quote

Agadir as a resort is lovely, there is a big wide sweeping beach that stretches for miles and I can't imagine this ever been so packed that you couldn't get on it ... even in the height on summer! I can't comment on the restaurants/nightlife as we didnt eat or go out in Agadir at night, seeing as we were all-inclusive. Also, being two women on our own, we didn't feel 100% safe out on our own at night, so preferred to stay in the hotel. We know of other people that did venture out at night and most of them said the restaurants were good. I would recommend the little train ride that takes you all around the resort ... it's good fun and a great way of seeing what's around and finding your bearings around Agadir. The weather was changeable, but then it was February, so we expected that. We did have a few days of nice warm sun, but it can get very windy and feel quite chilly sometimes. We also had a couple of days of rain!!

If you get the chance to venture up to Marrakech ... do so! It is an amazing place and even though a four hour journey, it is well worth it. We did the overnight stay, including stopping at the beautiful fishing town of Essaouira the following day.

All in all, a very interesting place!!

"AGADIR"

Overall Resort Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

My holiday was All Inclusive so I didn't have to eat out but the prices seemed very reasonable due to Morocco's general cost of living, their unique curency and reasonable exchange rates at a time when Sterling is worthless in Europe. As a lone traveller, I didn't sample the nightlife so can't comment on that. I felt very safe walking around the town on my own during the day. Agadir is a very modern town but buildings are all low level and in keeping with the country generally. It's very clean and well maintained and very welcoming to tourists. Taxis are plentiful and very reasonably priced.

The resort is basic and still developing. There are a few restaurants and bars around, but no entertainment for children. The beaches are nice and clean, but I would advise staying in a hotel on the each as these seemed to be the best.
