Just returned from 7 days half board at Amadil Beach Hotel. First holiday in Morocco though we have previously holidayed in Tunisia and Egypt.

Holiday booked 10 days before through Direct Holidays(part of Airtours). Flew MyTravel. Departures both going and coming back on time. Did incur a 50/60 minute delay in getting through Moroccan immigration. Not certain if this is the norm or we just hit a bad time. Airtours Group Rep at resort was a Moroccan girl, Nehta, very informative and helpful.

The hotel. Superbly situated on the beachfront, but if you are expecting a 4*hotel on the lines of a good large Spanish chain, e.g. Barcelo hotels, you may be disappointed. We had a sea view room with balcony on the 3rd floor overlooking the roof of the ground floor restaurant. It was adequate, but not large, in size, clean and reasonably furnished. As has been said before the hotel is aimed primarily at French and German tourists though we did not encounter any problems with the waiters or staff understanding English. There did not appear to be any English TV channels. There are three restaurants though we only used the main buffet restaurant. Initially the organisation of this restaurant appeared to be a little haphazard with crockery and cutlery not always being where you might think it should be and it was three days into the holiday before we discovered that one half of the restaurant was smoking and the other half non smoking. Again compared with Spanish 4* hotels, the choice of food was probably not as great but there was enough selection for us to eat well. NO CHIPS/FRENCH FRIES during the week. (These are served with lunchtime snacks and at the local McDonald's!!) Entertainment at the hotel appears to be low key with a duo/trio most evenings as far as we could see. There is a lot of hotel building but the Amadil Beach is in the middle of an established development with no near by problems of this nature.

Agadir. As the town was destroyed in 1960 by an earthquake there is barely anything here of historic interest. It is also larger than we had expected, population around 300,000. There is a distinct difference between the city's hotel and tourist district and where the locals live. We walked to the souk one day through the ordinary commercial/residential centre, which is an eye opener, but at no time did we feel threatened, though you need to keep your wits about you crossing the roads. At all times the beach hawkers and shop keepers accepted our ";No thank you"; when trying to gain our interest in their wares. The beach, which is really its prime attraction, is superb with long rolling Atlantic breakers. There was a sea mist most mornings but this was ";burnt off"; by around 10.30 leaving the rest of the day until evening sunny and bright with temperatures for early March in the 24 - 28C range. On only one day did it persist when the temperature probably just rose to 21C. We understand that temperatures in the Summer can rise to 40+C. There are also a number of Golf Course developments.

Summary. We are not lovers of beach holidays and were just looking for a Spring week away from the UK where it might be warm. This holiday was a pleasant surprise. If you have had your fill of Spain, Portugal or the Canaries then give Morocco/Agadir a go.

Breakfast was really nice with fresh orange juice being made constantly, plus fresh pancakes and fried eggs, lovely bread and pastries, it starts at 5.00 and runs to 10.00.Evening meal was a bit basic but what buffet isn't. I would certanly go there again and suggest it to any of my friends.

The beach outside hotel was very clean plenty of sunbeds. I enjoyed all of Agardir we visited the Sardine port which was quite an eye opener, still very basic could have been 100 years ago, but if you don't want to see the real Morocco and just want some sun stay inside Agardir, its clean and taxi's are very cheap 2 - 20 dirham (16 dirham to the pound)

we were moved to this hotel from the occidental allegro ( great improvement) this is a lovely hotel, staff make you very welcome maids do a good job cleaning the rooms, the downside is the food is not good i read about this on a reveiw last august so it seems they have'nt learnt, many people including french and german guests were complaining we complained to the head waiter and the chef but it did'nt get much better it was nearly always cold and almost the same thing night after night, they let us go in the italian restaurant for free one night, and another night they cooked us steak and chips but the chef was not happy doing this, other people complained that the german people were treated better that the english but we did'nt find this, one other point if you have a room near to the band it is very noisy if you want an early night, but to be fair the music stops at 11pm.But then there is a night club in the hotel that goes on until 4am, all in all this is a nice hotel spoilt by the food.

The airtours rep netza a lovely young lady who was a real help to everyone who approached her couln'nt do enough for you.

Oh Dear! Booked this two weeks on the understanding that it is a 4 star hotel and having read the recommendations on this site. I doubt if a Thompsons rep has ever stayed in this hotel..and certainly has never eaten there. Be aware that the sun doesnt come out in Agadir until PM , sometimes not all day!!

Hotel itself is a very nice well designed and impressive building. Bedrooms are adequate (again not 4 star). Rooms cleaned every day. None of our three rooms had a mini bar, hairdryers, air con was faullty. Mini bars were eventually provided, though not filled after 4 days of complaints and making representation to five seperate staff on the front desk (who all smile sweetly, agree with you, then ignore you till the next time). Pool are is fine but there are far too few sunloungers when the hotel is busy..this results in a particularly disagreeable little man (didnt get his name but I've got a photo if you want to avoid him..or push him in the pool) taking the towels/belonging off the nearest lounger and giving it away to someone else. So if you go to get something to eat you can come back to no sunbed. Same problem on the private beach, which is tiny.

This hotel is particularly aimed at our french friends, and the food reflects this. I've stayed in a few bad hotels in my time but the restaurant in this place is down there with the worst of 'em. Breakfast buffet is ok if limited. Evening meal is attrocious. very bland, very little variation, tasteless. You'll be ok if you like pigs trotters and calves hooves though (I kid you not!)
Attitude of the waiters in the restaurant is terrible ( I think its because we're brits and they cant speak the language - although I can speak french if they'd bother to give me the opportunity) Example, on one occasion I put the money for the drinks on the table for the waiter. He came over, picked it up, threw down a chitty and walked off...not a thanks, merci, shukran, kiss my ***.

In the evening theres a programme of entertainment but again there are far too few seats in the lounge areas..especially as lots of people seem to come in from outside. waiters in the bar are entertaining by their complete disregard for customer service. They take for ever to come to your table, then disappear and are never seen again. When you do get served its the same problem in trying to pay.All in all 3 star hotel, terrible food, good location.

Have just got back from a weeks holiday in Agadir. Had a fabulous time.

The hotel was very good, rooms very clean, were cleaned once and sometimes twice a day!Twin beds, a fridge and satellite T.V.Large private balcony. Rooms have either sea, pool or garden view. Staff were friendly, spoke english OK, fluent french and berber arabic.Hotel has three restaurants, food in the buffet restaurant was OK, lots of choice!

Entertainment throughout the day and night was very good, lots of poolside activities including darts, aerobics, polo and ping pong. At night time there was a live singer with a dancing competion one night and a moroccan evening one night. Large pool, plenty of sun loungers and hotel has private beach, again with lots of loungers. We went on a day trip to Marrakech, which I would recommend to see historical Morocco, although a 4 hour journey, the drive through the atlas mountains is very scenic and I would recommend it. Also, visiting the Casbah is interesting, breathtaking views from the top, not for the light hearted as the coach drives up the hill side and its a bit scary! Lots of cafes near the hotel, do cheap, tasty lunches!

I would definitely go back.
