Having read some of the other reviews I was worried about what we were letting ourselves in for. However this has gone down as one of our best holidays to date - both for the children and the adults.
The appartments were as described - basic but clean and roomy and with endless hot water at all times. There was a bit of noise from the people on the floor above our, they kept different times to us thats all!
The pools at the appartments are a bit boring - plain rectangles, but we spent most of our time on the beach so it didn't matter. We went to the public beach every day. It was clean (swept overnight to remove all rubbish) and there was plenty of room. The surf is great for playing in and the beach fairly flat so quite safe for the kids to play in the water.
The beach traders were no worse than being in the south of France and were on the whole very friendly. Sun tan lotion a must though as the breeze keeps it feeling cool and it would have been very easy to burn. After a few days they got used to us and didn't even bother trying to sell - just shouted hello and how are you. Moroccan people seem very friendly and wanted to chat, but if they were trying to sell you something a polite but firm no thank you always worked. We ate out most nights and had pleasant food at Taco Loco (Mexican) and Camels (tagine, pasta, pizza) on the Corniche, the blue and white bar just up from Camels seemed good too ( can't remember name). We found that if you went out and about onto the Corniche and other streets food was much cheaper than on the main tourist drag of Blevard 20 Aout. I was apprehensive being vegetarian but I managed to eat well every day. Breakfast the first day was at Fouquets - continental for 26dh each (less than £2). We took a taxi to the Marjan supermarket to stock up for the week - necessary if you want salad/fruit etc as none of the small shops carry much variety or quality! Its just like being in a French supermarket at Marjan.
When we were there it was Ramadan, but it only affected the camels - First Choice camels had gone on holiday! So we booked through the company which operates down near the ClubMed hotel and main beach entrance. We got the same trip for half the price of any of the big operators.
Some other reviewers have complained about the lack of night life. There seemed to be a few night clubs but to be honest it was great not to be somewhere like Spain surrounded by drunken Brits. We went out exploring both by day and night on foot, I would just advise the same caution as at home - be wary of dark streets and alleyways. That said at no time did we feel unsafe or worried about trouble.
The only downside to the holiday was the outbound flight, which was v delayed and had no food on when it eventually took off.
All in all a good trip and the children have already asked when we are going back!
