A great town and resort.
Try and stay in the old town and get a really taste of what Funchal is about.
Lots to see and do. Buses regular and cheap.
Avoid the time share touts.

Funchal and Maderia are recovering after the floods and mud slides.
The people are determined for life to go on.
A great mix of a city and and holiday resort.
Not for beach lovers though!

We really liked Lisbon. Probably not the sort of place that you would keep going back to, but it is a really pleasant city and the weather was fine and sunny while we were there, and pretty warm. Food is great too, especially the fresh seafood.

Nothing really to do in this town except wander round shops . The best meal out we got in this town was at an Indian Restaurant Rasoi for quality and service .

A nice alternative to Funchal if you are returning to the island.
There has been a great deal of investment in the sea front.
Lots of nice and little local restaurants.
Is a taste of the real Madeira.

St. Jerome is a wonderful example of unique Portuguese architecture. The seafaring history of the Portuguese is evident as soon as you take your first step into the cathedral. The monastery grounds are beautifully maintained, which is no small feat given the site of the site. And Vasco de Gama is there

St. Jerome is a wonderful example of unique Portuguese architecture. The seafaring history of the Portuguese is evident as soon as you take your first step into the cathedral. We like Albufeira and visit generally twice per year. It has everything you need for a great holiday, really nice beach and coastline and lots of good bars. The old town is very pleasant.

We just got back from a two week break in Madeira, we stayed in Funchal with the intention of spending the New Year passage there as we have heard so much about the fireworks display. It was absolutely amazing, for about 10 minutes Funchal was surrounded by fireworks. It was really beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone.

We relied on the bus service which is very good. Once the various timetables have been mastered it provides interesting journeys into the countryside. The views are stunning though not too good for those with a fear of heights. There are many interesting restaurants in Funchal and some of them put on floor shows of Madeiran music.

Been going for almost 20 years and will continue. family friendly, still like the english too, and improving all the time with investments. Eat at o Velheiro for a briiliant traditonal meal at ridiculous prices ....so cheap.

Very relaxing break. It was a bit cooler than we imagined, but we are keen hikers so that didn't bother us that much, we were prepared for whatever weather would come.

Warm & friendly. Lots of good fish & sea food restaurants. Plenty to see & do. Only problem is that everywhere is uphill. Great ride on the cable car.
