We like Albufeira and visit generally twice per year. It has everything you need for a great holiday, really nice beach and coastline and lots of good bars. The old town is very pleasant.

"Nice place for a short break"
resort to a friend
Warm & friendly. Lots of good fish & sea food restaurants. Plenty to see & do. Only problem is that everywhere is uphill. Great ride on the cable car.

Nice enough resort with a few decent bars and shops, we wanted a bit of sun and got it though it wasn't particularly warm. I am oldish but don't really feel the cold normally. You certainly wouldn't want to swim in it!

"Beautiful still with charm"

Been going for almost 20 years and will continue. family friendly, still like the english too, and improving all the time with investments. Eat at o Velheiro for a briiliant traditonal meal at ridiculous prices ....so cheap.

Very relaxing break. It was a bit cooler than we imagined, but we are keen hikers so that didn't bother us that much, we were prepared for whatever weather would come.

We relied on the bus service which is very good. Once the various timetables have been mastered it provides interesting journeys into the countryside. The views are stunning though not too good for those with a fear of heights. There are many interesting restaurants in Funchal and some of them put on floor shows of Madeiran music.

Funchal review
"Fantastic New Year Firework display"
resort to a friend
We just got back from a two week break in Madeira, we stayed in Funchal with the intention of spending the New Year passage there as we have heard so much about the fireworks display. It was absolutely amazing, for about 10 minutes Funchal was surrounded by fireworks. It was really beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone.

Nice town, we particularly like the old part. Some nice bars around there. We didn't particularly like the main drag, but the beach is lovely, proper Atlantic coastline.

Lovely bit of coast. We often go in April and October as its not very hot but normally sunny. It was a bit windy though!

Really lovely city to walk around. You must visit some of the Port wine lodges. A river trip is a must as well. There are some really fascinating old sights in the city.

Funchal review
"Old fashioned, great atmosphere"

We stayed at the Raga, which is very accessible to Funchal. This is a fantastic place, the people are extremely friendly and polite should you need to ask them for directions. Most people in Funchal do speak English, well younger Maderians atleast. We took several walks along the marina after dinning on the fantastic local restaurants. This is a very picturesque place specially at night with the lights from Funchal caressing the Atlantic Ocean. Just amazing.

Funchal is a lovel resort,very relaxed,lots to see & lots of excursions to do. It's lovely to walk along the promenade,especially in the evenings. We were there at the end of November,just as the Xmas lights were turned on,marvellous!

November 2009 holiday for one week. Weather was very warm and sun was out.
Town is built on hills and this was very evident wherever you walked.
Appears to be a good bus system but we only used the number 24.
