About 20 minutes walk from Albefeura Old Town. Tropcial Sol runs a free bus twice a day. Only 3.25 euros by taxi in the day and about 3.50 euros at night.
About five minutes away from The Strip which is very lively. However, no noise problems.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Beuatiful little tabby cats living in the gardens - a bonus if you are a cat lover.
Lovely accomodation and well worth it's four stars.

This was the first time we have stopped at the Tropical Sol and would definetley stay again, the apartments were a great size and had every thing you could have needed in them. The pool was a good size and the diving board gave the kids hours of fun, the snack bar was excellent and served good food at reasonable prices. The hotel is in a good location 5 mins to the strip where you can catch the train to the old town for a couple of euros.

This is the 2nd time we have been at these apts. The 1st time was 4 yrs ago and it was excellent, but we had a 1 bedroomed apt and this time it was a studio. So we were a bit apprehensive. It was really nice and roomy. Twin beds and two chairs , kitchen toilet and wardrobe. Vey clean, towels changed daily . The poole was really nice and no charge for sunbeds. The pool bar was run by a extremely nice family. Food was reasonably priced and fab.... But they served the best ever SANGRIA that I have ever had in my life.
Out and about. The chinese restaurant called Dong Xing round the corner was fab, just passed the gorgeous cake shop. Good bar round
ther too Called Angellus.
The strip was good but the old town was by far the best. Great Rock Bar at top of square. Fab cocktails.
Can't wait to go back. Definately recommend these apts. Def 4 star.

The Praia da Oura/San Jaoa area is our favourite (with Alvor a close second)and we have visited many times. We have stayed at various accommodations in the area, and had always said we must stay at the Tropical Sol sometime. Well in May 2007 we did and we weren't disappointed. It's a well run and equipped place with clean rooms and regular maid service. It is owned by the same people who own the Brisa Sol on the main road, another place worth a visit. Tropical Sol a nice bar run by friendly Portuguese couple, Marco and Rosanna, who make you feel very welcome. The pool side cafe is open every day serving hot and cold food (full beakfasts, sandwiches, beans on toast, burgers, etc.). Some reviewers mentioned the Oura Hotel across the road and it's noisy strip club, but from our observations this no longer operates and all was quiet during our two weeks. Nearby there is a nice Chinese Reataurant and a Mexican style one as well. However it is only a short walk to the 'Strip' and then you're spoilt for choice. Our favourites are Costa Rica, at the lower end, and going up the Strip, Luigi's is also very good. The Indian Restaurant Punjab Palace on the main road is closer and value for money. Over the years we have been to the Algarve in mid-summer (blistering) and October (dark early and risk of rain/thunder), but middle of May was superb in 2007, just like a hot summer in UK and because the hour has just gone forward (same times there as UK) the nights are lighter longer. The only sadness was that little Maddie McCann had gone missing just two days before we arrived and it was always at the back of your mind. We always hire a car so we are not really into organised excursions, but this time we did the cruise up the Guadiana River (which separates Portugal from Spain) and it was great value for money. After a couple of hours sailing we stopped at a riverside village. After a short guided tour of the village you enter the purpose built retaurant for a great lunch. All you could eat, featuring sardines, chicken, etc. and lots of wine. The staff of the restaurant then parade around, conga style, playing guitars and accordians to create a great party atmosphere getting everyone to join in. I have seen reports of poor weather in May, but we are going in May again this year based on last year's great holiday (and we are going back to the Tropical Sol).

Just back from a holiday at the Tropical Sol. Really enjoyed it. Apartments were excellent -clean and spacious. The apartments are close to 'the strip' which is where most of the restaurants etc are. Also close to the little road train that takes you into the old town. This is very good and inexpensive form of transport. Beaches are close but the ones nearer the hotel do mean a walk up quite an incline on the return journey. The evening entertainment was very good (1 night Karoake, 1 night man with a quitar and also a quiz night) considering that its not peak season. Everyone very friendly and helpful (including the couple running the bar and all the hotel staff) First Choice rep Angie was very good at her job.
Had read a bad review of these apartments before we went and was a bit concerned about what to expect but had no problems with apartments, area or people. We would definitely recommend to anyone.
