Just got back from a fortnight at the Oasis Beach Appts. After having read some of the reviews we were a litte wary of what we might find, but we were pleasantly surprised, The appt was clean, roomy, with a well equipped kitchen large fridge freezer(but no oven)The poool area, although small, was adequate for the amount of guests that wanted to use it,although we had to be up pretty early to reserve our sunbeds.( near the end of our stay a delivery of about 20 extra beds arrived that should solve that problem)Surrounding the pool there are 2 distinct areas, one that is turfed and a small area beside the childrens pool that is paved. The paved area gets VERY HOT during the day and is best avoided unless you want to bake, the turfed area is more comfortable but is a magnet for flies(they appear to live in the grass)! The pool bar is adequate, serving snacks and drinks both hot and cold at reasonsble prices. The gym/sauna/jacuzzi and indoor pool were excellent and never too crowded. The advertised turkish bath was out of order. Free air conditioning was a plus, along with freeview t.v.There was a safe in our room but we never felt the need to us it as the rooms are secure (metal shutters on all the windows(except the bathroom, but you can lock that)The appts are about 5 minutes walk away from the beach and town. There is a large supermarket called Baptista in Luz that will, upon production of your room key, deliver your purchases free of charge(they give you a time)another plus about this supermarket is that if you purchase something they will exchange travellers cheques free of charge.

Luz is ideal if you want a relaxing,do little holiday but if your party contains teenagers there is nothing for them to do(one night club) There are not that many restuarants and the ones that there were get very busy at night and in most cases it is recomm...

We booked a late holiday with Holiday Direct which is part of Thomas Cook. When I telephoned to book they told me the cost was £503 which was very good however they took £530 from my account it is still under dispute. Having said that I can truly say that this was a very good relaxing holiday which was exactley what we wanted. The appartments are very close to the beach, they had good room facillaties however the pool is very small. Praia Da Luz is a very nice friendly place with a great surf. However I would not recommend going to the fort for a meal even though it is supposted to be the place to go our chicken was fatty, the staff were very unfriendly and the portions were below average size. If you want a quiet relaxing beach holiday this is the place to go

We had an apartment in Block C, First Floor Aparatment F. It was not 'massive' as previous reviews stated. It was next to the road which was noisy, and had a normal size balcony. You also couldn't open the toilet door fully as this hit the toilet! It was adequate for 2 people, but would of been cramped with 4 people. The wardrobe doors and fridge sections were both broken. There was no iron or ironing board in the room (as stated in the brouchure). The pool was really small, and towards the end of our two weeks, the up at the crack of dawn, towels on sunbeds brigade were active! The bar pool, is basically a shack that serves basic food. I'm not sure this warrants a 3 star rating. The transfer from airport to resort was 3.5 hours! Which everyone was complaining about. The fact that the airport is only a 40 minute taxi drive away, this does seem excssive. But Thomas Cook use big coaches so you have to drop everyone off. Apparantly Thomas Cook are the only tour operator to do this to Praia, all others use mini buses. We wouldn't go to these apartments again. The weather was red hot for the whole two weeks.

OverallVery Good Resort

Praia Da Luz is quiet. Very quiet. But couldn't fault the food, prices etc. It is bascially a beach and pool holiday. but we knew this when we booked. We wouldn't go to Praia again.

Lots of the previous reviews here can sometimes raise your expectations and I felt it did that with us. Went in May 2008. The apartment was spacious and had many extras, fitted kitchen was really good. It also has four balconies and we had a pool view. The general layout of the blocks was a little dull and the pool area wasn't the prettiest, no views just walls. Having said that, the weather wasn't great when we were there so that can have an effect on how things look. The apartment itself was excellent, just didn't think much about the complex. The resort was lovely with a villagy feel. The beach is excelent and the restaurants were first class, with Antonio opposite the Duke Bar, the best value. It's also close to Lagos which is execellent to visit for a day and the bus service was easy to use. Would go back to Luz.
