Vila nova is a good 3 star hotel, however, it's under the flight path for the airport though with so few flights a day it was not obtrusive.
It's in an odd part of town, all rundown but very close to the main square and the port / harbour.

Vila nova is a good 3 star hotel, however, it's under the flight path for the airport though with so few flights a day it was not obtrusive.
It's in an odd part of town, all rundown but very close to the main square and the port / harbour.
Typical continental breakfast but the same menu all week because it is a small hotel.
Having travelled around europe I found the hotel staff distant, they did not look or talk to you but then they did not chat much amongst themselves.
Pool had sun from 11:00 to 19:00 always enough sun beds 34 but only 20 matresses, lots of clean towels all day.
Safe deposit box is free though there was a returnable deposit for the key.
Car parking 2 euros per day, this is only used to get into the carpark so gave mine up on the penultimate day (cheapskate that I am) saving 2 euros.
Because of the poor bus service and theusual high price of the organised trips we hired a car from Ilha Verdi had a kia piquanta. The car was small and lacked power but you do not need anything more as the roads are virtually empty outside of Ponta Delgada and the surface is very variable (pot holes and rough). No problems with the hire they check every panel for dents and scratches on the hire but only glanced at it on return.
Soa Miguel island is very under developed and I'm glad I went now as there is not too much tourism, we arrived on fiesta night and was out to 2 in th emorning with the locals.
Food and drink is mostly cheap, typical local bar coffee 50cents brandy (unmeasured 1 euro). Best restauranrt was lounge 27 near the clerical school it had live music some nights and a good atmosphere, had no smoking area. A little cafe across the main square called Mimo was friendly and cheap for drinks and snacks.
The weather was good all week, only exception was a long shower one day, mostly unbroken sunshine. Low 30's in the day low 20's at night.
This is a very relaxed island we were out at all times of the night and although the locals like a beer we never felt threatened at any time.
Would we go back? Yes, but no for a few years and from the new marina being built with large hotels it might be a different island.
