Cascais has not be overtaken by modern developments. The centre still has a lot of small cobbled streets which are nice to explore. There are a reasonable selection of shops here and some excellent and not badly priced restaurants provided you steer clear of the touristy ones on the main square. the beach is sandy but sea was cold. A good base for exploring with a 35 minute cheap train journey into Lisbon and 30 minutes bus ride to Sintra. Not really a really a resort for children or singles.

Cascais has a lot of back cobbled streets that are worth exploring. A sandy beach the best one being outside the town on the Estoril side. The restaurants were mixed but provided you avoid the main tourist ones on the square you can find nice food at reasonable prices. There a few bars including a couple of Irish pubs.It is a good base to get to both Lisbon 4-40 minutes by train and Sintra about the same time by bus.Cascais is more suitable to couples wanting a mixture of the seaside and sightseeing.
