I love Lisbon - like a well-loved maiden Aunt it has seen better days and some of the empty houses are very dirty on the outside but the facades are brilliant if you imagine a lick of paint. Lots of History and monuments, statues and museums. Great for shopping or just window-shopping and visiting the Shopping Malls is a MUST. They are enormous and sell anything and everything. They usually have cafes/restaurants in them and wonderful on a rainy day
Personally I would add 'Singles' to who the Hotel is suitable for. Supposedly renovated 1998/99 - but looks tacky outside with paint peeling. Contrary to various blurbs there is NO bar, also NO power points (except a shaving point in the bathroom), NO tea/...
Personally I would add 'Singles' to who the Hotel is suitable for. Supposedly renovated 1998/99 - but looks tacky outside with paint peeling. Contrary to various blurbs there is NO bar, also NO power points (except a shaving point in the bathroom), NO tea/Coffee facilities, TV is in Portugese apart from Channel 12/13 which is BBC World news and CONSTANTLY repeated. On the plus side the rooms were very clean but done late in the day(around 16.00 hrs) and there are 2 Bus Stops directly outside - No. 74 which goes across Ave. do Liberdade where all the big names are (Gucci, Armani, Loewe etc) and then further afield, and No. 790 which goes to the main square and also to the Railway Station (Cais do Sodre)for Cascais and Sintra. Fares are cheap 1.40 euros but day and weekly tickets can be purchased

We have just returned home from a weeks holiday in the Cidadela Hotel Cascais nr. Lisbon in Portugal. The rest of the guests were mainly Americans who were getting most of the attention from the staff. The room was very comfortable and was kept very clean with room service every day.
We went on a Bed and Breakfast tarrif but the breakfast was very basic. We had a few evening meals in the hotel as well but we didnt enjoy those much either.
Most of the Resturants in the town were all serving the same sort of Menu's but we did find a small resturant up a little side road called Edoudos it was very good with something a bit different and inexpensive.
In the hotel bar there was supposed to be a piano player but for the first couple of nights he wasnt there then for a couple of nights he played a few numbers then he retired to the bar for a while then he played a few more songs. It was a great pity that the bar wasnt used by many guests just about eight of us, One couple got up and danced to the music they were very good.
I dont think we will return to Cascais as everything was very expensive all the shops were selling designer label goods so there were no little gifts we could buy. There were hardly any beach area to speak of and what there was had nothing that we could sit on.
