Close to Funchal and with good access to the rest of the island. The Garajau beach is very close by where scuba dives can be done. There is lots of fish to admire. We booked a dolphin spotting tour from our hotel but these can be also booked from the marina in Funchal. Worth every penny, we saw the Atlantic spotted dolphin and they're beautiful.

We love Madeira, it's trully amazing. There's lots to do so take your pick. This time we explored the levadas on the East side of the island (Rabacal Levadas) they are really worth it, although levada walking is not for the faint hearted. Next time we visit Madeira we will take a sightseeing trip to the Desertas. We wanted to visit them this time but we had so much to do in one week, it's top of the list for next time.

Very quiet location but very accessible to Funchal. Garajau beach is amazing, we went scuba diving in search of the huge Mero fish that lives there but we didn't get to see it, but we did see lots of other beautiful fish. Having never scuba dived before we took the beginner's course, very daunting at first but it was very easy to learn and very enjoyable.

It is worth exploring the island and if you get the chance, try and go for a levada walk and visit the highest mountain peaks - a good way to see and feel the real Madeira. And for some exhilaration, the famous toboggan ride in Monte is a must! The weather at this time was warm with some sunny spells and cloudy some days, I did not return with much of a sun tan.

I was pleasantly surprised by the magnificent scenery, the soaring mountains, the proliferation of flowers and the clean, unpolluted air. I was expecting a quiet peaceful holiday and thats exactly what I got.

"Lush green Island"

Overall Resort Rating:

Excellent

Madeira is a lush green island with an abundance of flowers including orchids and strelitzia. Funchal is a thriving city but the old town has cobbled streets and plenty to see.. its worth taking the cable car to Monte viewing the magnificent gardens at the top and coming down by basket. Also Nuns valley, Santana and Puerto Moniz are worth visiting. Whilst we found Madeira wonderful it is not the cheapest but it is still value for money. Both the cost of accommodation and eating out are reasonable. Night life is low key but there are a couple of livelier bars in the centre of Funchal.

"nice resort"

There's a fantastic sea view from most (if not all) rooms and it's very close to the Atlantic Ocean. There is a promenade along the seafront, accessible via a secure gate from the hotel, which is very pleasant to walk along especially after dinner in the evening and can be quite dramatic when it's windy and the waves crash onto the rocks. The climate in Madeira was sunny & warm but not too hot, though quite windy here on many days even it wasn't in other parts of the island.

Madeira is a beautiful island with lush, green scenery and mountains. There is an element of peace and tranquillity about it as the locals are generally relaxed and laid back. It is worth exploring the island and if you get the chance, try and go for a levada walk and visit the highest mountain peaks - a good way to see and feel the real Madeira.

"Quiet and Tranquil. No Sandy Beaches."

Overall Resort Rating:

Cancico is a small location. With only a couple or so hotels. The beach like the other beaches in Maderia is a pebble beach. Although being early April we didn't venture on to it! We prefered the heated pool at the hotel! There is a small supermarket which sells cheap water and there are a couple of cafes selling food cheaply. There really isn't that much nightlife to speak of, however the hotels do the usual parrot shows etc for guests

"Want peace and quiet, then go here"

Overall Resort Rating:

This resort is only for those who enjoy a quiet life. There is not a lot to do but walk along the small promenade, stop for a coffee or sit in the sun. There are a number of very good places to eat, one of them being Origens. Go up from the hotel, turn left at the roundabout, go over the bridge and it's just up on the right. The service and food is very good, it will cost you about 45-50 euros for a 3 course with drinks (beer) but the best value for price is also just above the hotel on the top right corner of the roundabout. A 3 course with drinks (beer) here is about 35 euros. For those gents who like a good draught guinness, there's a nice bar/rest just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Go along the promenade, up the steps, turn left at the top and its just past the mini market on the right. You'll see a big round sign advertising it. Food is very good to. This resort is not for those seeking disco's and action. Its very very quiet. Just the way we like it. Go into Funchal at least once. They have a very good selection of shops. The days trips round the island are 42 euros with lunch, very good value. The Santa Maria boat trip was a real let down, no mention of seeing dolphins or whales, infact no info at all, bit of a rip of really, shouldn't bother, waste of 55 euros (for 2). Cable car is worth a go, it take you to the Monte Palace, well worth a look, don't forget your camera and allow yourself at least 3 hours. Madeira is a lovely place, well worth the visit.

"Dated and poor Hotel."

Overall Resort Rating:

Good

Open quote

Not too sure how quiet this resort really is as the promenade is used by all the local youths as a meeting place , where they are noisy unti the early hours. There is also some early morning vechile noise. There are a handful of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotels but you are quite limited for choice. Origens and La Trainera were two we found very good. There is no beach here but you can snorkel off a small jetty opposite the Riu Palace, watch out though as it can be a bit rough when the tide is coming in.
