"Lovely Hotel in peaceful setting"

Canico is great if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal but it's just a twenty minute bus ride away.

We have recently returned from a weeks stay at the Oasis Atlantic Hotel and can honestly say this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The cleanliness was second to none as were the facilities. OK there wasn't much to do during the day because of...

Not too sure how quiet this resort really is as the promenade is used by all the local youths as a meeting place , where they are noisy unti the early hours. There is also some early morning vechile noise. There are a handful of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotels but you are quite limited for choice. Origens and La Trainera were two we found very good. There is no beach here but you can snorkel off a small jetty opposite the Riu Palace, watch out though as it can be a bit rough when the tide is coming in.

This resort is only for those who enjoy a quiet life. There is not a lot to do but walk along the small promenade, stop for a coffee or sit in the sun. There are a number of very good places to eat, one of them being Origens. Go up from the hotel, turn left at the roundabout, go over the bridge and it's just up on the right. The service and food is very good, it will cost you about 45-50 euros for a 3 course with drinks (beer) but the best value for price is also just above the hotel on the top right corner of the roundabout. A 3 course with drinks (beer) here is about 35 euros. For those gents who like a good draught guinness, there's a nice bar/rest just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Go along the promenade, up the steps, turn left at the top and its just past the mini market on the right. You'll see a big round sign advertising it. Food is very good to. This resort is not for those seeking disco's and action. Its very very quiet. Just the way we like it. Go into Funchal at least once. They have a very good selection of shops. The days trips round the island are 42 euros with lunch, very good value. The Santa Maria boat trip was a real let down, no mention of seeing dolphins or whales, infact no info at all, bit of a rip of really, shouldn't bother, waste of 55 euros (for 2). Cable car is worth a go, it take you to the Monte Palace, well worth a look, don't forget your camera and allow yourself at least 3 hours. Madeira is a lovely place, well worth the visit.

This is a very quiet resort but as long as you know that before booking, you will not be disappointed. The beach is pebbly but very popular.
