We have recently returned from a weeks stay at the Oasis Atlantic Hotel and can honestly say this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The cleanliness was second to none as were the facilities. OK there wasn't much to do during the day because of the location, but when you have seven days of glorious sunshine as we did, all you want to do is relax and enjoy the pool area.
We were on a B&B basis so we had to go out each night to find somewhere to eat, but that is not a problem as there are quite a number of restaurants to choose from. My personal favourite was Origens, just a short walk uphill from the Hotel. The breakfast in the hotel was more than adequate to suit all palates with a good selection of both hot and cold dishes with plently of fresh fruit. You could even have a Bucks Fizz if you so wish!
The evening entertainment was limited but you can always go next door to theRiu Palace, as we did and enjoy some excellent entertainment there.
On the whole we can say we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Madeira and will certainly be going back most probably to the same hotel. We have stayed in Funchal a couple of times but if you are after peace and quiet and a good night's sleep then this is the place for you.
Canico is great if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal but it's just a twenty minute bus ride away.

Arrived at hotel after a poor Easyjet flight (anyne thinking of going with Easyjet i have one word for them DONT. First impressions were that it could do with a bit of a makeover. Our room was very small and a peculiar wedge shape which made it appear even smaller. It was very dingy and due to its position didn't see the sun at all. We asked to be moved only to be told that all the rooms were the same , which was absolute rubbish. Outside a very bland concrete area with a small , freezing cold pool awaits. The sunbeds are arranged so close to each it was ridiculous. We never ate in the hotel in the evening , breakfast was enough to put us off , luke warm scrambled eggs and hard baked beans , no thanks. The promenade which was directly outside our room was the meeting place for all the local youths who spent all night shouting at each other till around 3 in the morning. By the 4th day we'd had enough and checked out and moved into the Riu Palace next door , wot a difference. How the Oasis Atlantic gets its 4 star rating i do not know , i reckon 3 star would be too good . I had read the reviews on this hotel prior to us going and cannot understand had it is given such favourable reviews. Needless to say we will not be recommending this hotel to anyone.
Not too sure how quiet this resort really is as the promenade is used by all the local youths as a meeting place , where they are noisy unti the early hours. There is also some early morning vechile noise. There are a handful of bars and restaurants within...

Just come back from Canico, had two lovely weeks at the Oasis. If all you want is a nice quiet holiday then this is the place to stay. Nothing much to do but eat, sleep and enjoy the sun. The hotel was very clean and comfortable with a good choice for breakfast (best meal for choice). Don't be rushed into purchasing the hotels 3 in house meals for 75 euro. Check out the local eating places first. The hotel food in the evenings is a bit average and in our opinion over priced. There is a much better choice and at a more reasonable price to be had else where in the resort. The free shuttle bus runs into Funchal 6 days a week and is woth taking advantage of. The pools are very clean and safe. All in all a really good, friendly hotel. They do provide some entertainment but it does get a bit boring after 2 weeks of the same singer and songs. If you want somewhere more lively then go to Funchal. This hotel is ideal for anyone seeking a rest and relaxation.
This resort is only for those who enjoy a quiet life. There is not a lot to do but walk along the small promenade, stop for a coffee or sit in the sun. There are a number of very good places to eat, one of them being Origens. Go up from the hotel, turn lef...

We have just returned from a ten day stay at the Hotel Oasis Atlantic in Canico de Baixo and are very happy to report that it is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are very large and well furnished and all have a mini bar size fridge which is perfect for keeping drinks and sandwich fillers etc. The decor is slightly dated but it had absolutely no bearing on the cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff and the beautiful location.
If you drive yourself from the airport, leave the highway at exit 16. Turn left at the junction and follow the road towards the sea. The hotel is signposted so it is very easy to find. It is located in a very quiet resort but that only serves to ensure that you get a good nights sleep and come home totally relaxed. We had a hire car and always managed to get parked either in the hotels car park or on the road outside.
We were on a B&B basis and the choice of breakfast foods was huge. They cater for all nationalities but if you wanted a cooked breakfast then everything was available, including baked beans! All the cold cuts, cheeses, breads, cereals, yoghurts were also available daily and loads of fresh fruit.
Beaches: Madeira only has one natural black sand beach & it is no distance from Canico. It is up the east coast in Prainha. The free car park is on the road & it is then a steep walk down but there is a well set out paved path. The beach is in a lovely natural cove and has a cafe which also provides sunbeds & parasols. The yellow sand, man made beach is located at Calheta which is along the west coast. At this beach you also pay for parking which works out to about 5 euros for 5 hours and the cost of the beds/parasols is slightly more expensive than Prainha.
To drive into Funchal old town, leave the highway at exit 12 for Campo da Barca. Follow the signs all the way to the seafront and then turn left at the roundabout. If you get into the left hand lane, you will find your way into a multi-storey car park right beside the Madeira Story [which is very well worth a visit] and the edge of the old town.
Other recommendations: Porto Moniz to spend a lovely day in and around the natural volcanic rock pools complex. A small Sunday market at Santo de Serra a nice little town with a lovely small church. The town of Canico a couple of miles up the road from the hotel & a lovely restaurant on the corner of the church square. We would recommend the scabbard fish with bananas and the limpets.
This is a very quiet resort but as long as you know that before booking, you will not be disappointed. The beach is pebbly but very popular.

Just back from our first visit to Madeira and liked it so much are returning in April but to Funchal not Canico. We don't like too much hustle ans bustle but Canico is nearly asleep!
The hotel is in a fantastic ocean front position but nothing much else nearby. The actual village is up an extremely steep hill almost 1/2 hour walk!
We had a direct sea view suite on the 2nd floor and have to say it was the best hotel room we've ever had.It was huge with 2 balconies,a kitchenette and separate dining area,it was so big we kept mislaying our things!Nice touches were an ice bucket[the ice maker was situated on our floor]lovely lamps, flower vase, shoe shine cloths, bath mat, alarm cord in shower. There was a large fridge in kitchen area and a mini bar, neither of which you could hear at night as you had your seperate bedroom.Rooms and whole hotel spotless at all times.
A huge bonus for us was room service and breakfast in the room.We sat on one of our balconies enjoying our meals overlooking the Atlantic!
Staff very friendly at all times and we actually enjoyed Bruno but the Mexican dance troup was diabolical.
Both restaurants are non smoking and also a small n/s section in bar area.
Now the food! on the whole pretty bad!a 4*plus hotel with 3* food!We did not like the way Table D'Ote guests could eat in the Al La Carte section, this meant poorer service and a noisier atmosphere.
THey are very keen on adding salt to almost everything,a lovely salmon was spoilt by a very salty 'crust' and a steak was done in a sauce with lots of capers[not mentioned on menu]and was very tough. The best food we had was in the pool bar.
A highlight for us was the taxi tour around parts of the East.It was very relaxing,Manuel our driver drove slowly as requested and took us off the beaten track and pointed out many trees and flowers and things of local interest,we never go on organised trips as we get much more out of the individual taxi experience.
Summary
Excellent hotel in fabulous ocean front location, but was too isolated for us and they need to work on improving the food.
Fallen in love with Madeira, will return in April but to Funchal, hope to be there for the Flower Festival.
