"Only at your peril."
Overall Hotel Rating:
This hotel has only one thing going for it....Its position. The food is exceptionally poor. The building is run down and shabby. If you want a hair dryer, you have to go to reception and hire one for 30 Euros, the same as a the TV remote control. On checking in, we were asked which floor we wanted to be on....Hey, we thought "What a great place", but after that, everything was down hill. I told the Thomson rep about the Union flag being flown up-side down. When she expressed surprise and didn’t realise it could be. She checked on the internet, found out which way up it should be flown, saw the reception, but nothing was done to put it right, showing complete disregard for our flag and country. (The reception did say that they would do it sometime). Food wise....The vegetables were only luke warm, soaking in water. The meat was hard and over cooked. The chefs' looked completely bored and couldn't be bothered. A small bottle of SEMI-chilled water was 1.60 Euros. The beds need replacing badly, the one pillow was flat. The TV had buttons broken, so it was difficult to use. No Sky News channel, only Bloomberg and CNN together with BBC World news. The entertainment shows were amateurish and third rate.. The stage was hard to see after the first 3 rows.

"Sol Pelicanos, Benidorm"
Overall Hotel Rating:
After arriving at Alicante in December we caught the Shuttlebus (pre-booked) from the airport to Benidorm (17 Euro's each return). Location was on the flat and only 300 meters from the beach with bars and shops close by. The reception personnel were polite and helpful. We were on the 12th floor (there are over 700 rooms) and the twin room was a standard design for this type of hotel - Twin Beds, satellite TV, Balcony, ensuite and Air Con. There were 4 lifts to our floor. Everywhere was very clean and the maid came in daily. There was a large selection of food in the restaurant with salads, pizza's and a selection of meats and fish. Lots of entertainment available although the pools were closed, but you could use the sun beds. Childrens play area.
"nice hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
6 adults stayed here found the hotel spotless lovely looking hotel adequate room facilities .the pool is the best pool i have ever seen loads of beds so you shouldn't have problems getting one.jacuzzis in the pool aswell.clean hotel helpfull staff cleaners nearly everyday.now the negatives the only one i can say is the evening meal it wasn't very good at all breakfast was fine though.so i scored the food average because of the breakfast or it may of ben less.hotel position was excellent near all the bars but not too near so the hotel is quiet.i would recommend b&b rather than half or full board.so yes i would recommend this hotel and will return but on b&b.
"great hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
this hotel the orcas, is no good for the disabled and walking wounded, as there is a lot of steps down into the hotel lobby and a lot of the blighters inside as well. we had the top 11th floor and when you opened the balcony door it acted as a wind tunnel and draged the smells up through the building into the room, simple thing to do is not use the balcony then you dont open the door.. breakfasts were cold beens ,cold bacon, but you could do toast and the egges were cooked in front of you so these were piping hot one day its fried eggs the next its poached eggs but they all work well with toast other meals wre fine. the hotel is in the heart of the new side but hardly any noise heard through the night entertainment in the sister hotel was ok. as as Benidorm is the shoe shop capital of spain [& poss the med] plenty of shops to look around at.. by the way this it the hotle that the do the pool scenes at for that Benidorm program but only the pool bits they dont use the hotel at all.. we had a canny time and would go back.." Top Tip:"the town night club/ pub a good night out, with elvis [dave],, also for a good watch go to John and josephs just down the road for your food through the day its the cheapest any were in the area, ans ee them running around with arms full of plates trying to serve the customers is a laugh to say the least.

"Hotel Pelicanos / Ocas"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Good Hotel we stayed inthe Ocas which is next to the Pelicanos. You got to go to the pool or should I say lake its massive and was the Hotel pool which is in ITVs programme Benidorm. Pool youll neverget bored and lots of beds to chill out on if you leave a towel and it looks not used after a hour or so it gets moved which is good as like us we went in the pool got out layed down for a bit back in the pool etc so no problems for us there. We didnt stay in the hotel to see the entertainment but I think it was mainly for children. Food was good some nights better than others and we never had to queue for food. Breakfast was spot on all the usual stuff but also a chef would cook you a omlette so it was fresh and hot . Id go back next year.

"Nice Hotel....Poor Food"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel and pool are second to none. Food is the let down at this hotel. Chicken every night and not much selection for the size of the place. Your plates are left to pile high and you have trouble finding a clean table when you enter the restaurant. Also queues are huge for drinks! The hotel is spotless but must say beware of poolside as very slippery and people continually falling over and sliding around. Pool itself is best i have ever seen and big and again spotless. You cannot enter the pool until 9am and have to be out by 7pm. This hotel is full of spanish people and not many english at all.

"Sol Pelicanos"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just got back from a really enjoyable stay at the Pelicanos. The food was the best bit, so much choice. There were English roast dishes every night, as well as fish and local specialities which i really recommend you try. Breakfast always had a fry up. The room was cool and spacious, and there was good entertainment. We always stay in Sol hotels in Spain, this was one of the better ones.

"Worst hotel ever"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone it was the worst hotel ever and i was there with my husband and 3 yr old son. Where do i start the rooms were very old fashioned, the beds were like flat boards on sticks and very noisy when you moved on them. The staff were very ignorant especially one of the Thomas Cook reps who did not want to know if u had a problem. The food was totally disgusting the beans for breakfast looked like they were in a tray of water, the sausages were deep fried, fried bread so hard your lucky you never lost any teeth trying to eat it,chicken legs every nite at evening meal i used to luv chicken but not anymore, hardly any selection for young children, the milk tasted disgusting no use if you fancied cereal, the drinks at evening meal were a fortune and not any diluted juice what so ever for small kids. My 3 yr old son uses a floating ring and armbands at the pool but when we took him into the main pool the lifeguard told us he was not allowed into the main pool with his ring on incase any older children starting coming into the pool with inflatables,i was absolutely disgusted he needs his ring to keep him afloat,so we got told we had to stay in the shallow baby pool with him which was not much fun for us. The access to the swimming pool is none existing to people with prams or wheelchairs,to get to the pool you have to go down 2 flights of stairs then up 2 flights of stairs which i think is a disgrace no ramp access what so ever. The air conditioning that was the biggest joke ever it wasn't even on they say it only comes on July,Aug,Sep which really is a joke. The hotel was so hot it was unbearable especially in the restaurant and the bedrooms, you would be sitting trying to eat a meal and the sweat would be pouring off you. At night times you could not get slept for the heat in the bedrooms, our balcony door was kept opened every night and it still did not make much difference beacause of the heat outside and from the noise outside beacause we were situated on a main room it was disgraceful. You would be trying to get ready for going out at night and by the time you had finished you were absolutely soaking again. I went down to complain because it just wasn't good enough and when i got there i found a whole load of other people there complaining to about the air conditioning. They did say they were trying to get it switched on for everyone but i don't think they did beacause it didn't make any difference what so ever. The lifts were another big joke for the size of the hotel they only had 5 lifts and most of the time 2 of them were out of order,i saw us standing sum days for 10-15mins waiting on a lift because we had the pram and that was sumtimes 2 or 3 times a day we would be waiting that length of time. If you want a good holiday do not go to this hotel beacause i didn't speak to one person when we were their who said they enjoyed it,every one i spoke to said they hated it and couldn't wait to get home.

"Our worst ever holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is the worst ever hotel I have stayed in. It was dirty, smelly and boiling hot. The food was disgusting and the plates had to be inspected one by one to find one that didn't have too much dried food on it as they were all filthy. Cutlery was at a premium and the staff did not like you getting clean cutlery. The restaurant staff were unfriendly and rude and the food was diabolical. If you didn't like chicken legs and chips every night, then tough luck as there was very little else to choose from. My friend and I were sent to this hotel as an 'over 55's' reasonably quiet hotel - what a laugh - it was full up of screaming children, hen and stag parties and I had 8 1/2 hours sleep all week as I was kept awake by the noise. The only entertainment in the evening was for children until 11 p.m. and there was no evening entertainment for adults. We had to go into other hotels to see any entertainment. The rowdies were screaming, swearing and shouting on the balconies in the early hours of the morning up until 4 a.m. and were very drunk and the reception staff didn't want to know. We found Stacey the Thomas Cook rep extremely rude and most unhelpful. We would never ever go near Benidorm again and would certainly never recommend this hotel to anyone. AVOID !

"Liked It."
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel has everything you need, The rooms are a bit dated but fine if you dont spend a lot of time in doors. Dont make the same mistake we made, as we didnt have children with us, we had a quick luck around the hotel grounds but didnt go past the childrens area. On the last day we spotted the stunning pools a strole past the kids area. we were gutted, missed out on them all week HA HA you live and learn. We thought the food was very good, we were half board. If you stick to only having one meat a night there is something different every night. Breakfast very good, they will make you a fresh omelet while you wait. Drinks with your meal expensive 1.60 for a small water.. The location is fantastic, no hills or long walks to any where.

"Pelicanos/Ocas - it'll do for us"
Overall Hotel Rating:
have stayed in this hotel a few times now and found it suits all ages although have never taken small children so cannot comment on kids facilities. There are two hotels, bus drops you off at Pelicanos but we have nearly always been put in the Ocas. Both hotels are same quality although I think the Pelicanos is a bit newer - nothing in it really. Double rooms are of a good standard, always clean, small balcony, air con, maid service every day, bed made, floor swept, clean towels and toilet roll etc every day. Meals are buffet style and there is always a good choice of meats and fish, salad always available, often veggie paella as well as traditional, pizzas, pasta etc.
For us, the best feature of these hotels is the Pelicanos Pool - gorgeous!! This is the pool area they use for the TV series Benidorm and it is as good as it looks! We can lie there nearly all day, getting the sun all the time if you move round the pool! Immacuately clean, sometimes pool guards can be a bit OTT if a henny or stag group get a bit noisy, but hey, they're on holiday too. Pool bar and cafe is reasonable although its much cheaper to pop out to the many food outlets nearby and sneak it back in.
The indoor market just beside the hotels is a great visit, just inside the door is a smashing British run bakery/snack food and their cakes are amazing - they even rustled up an impromptu birthday cake for one of your group.
Hotel entertainment - can't comment coz who in their right minds goes to Benidorm and stays to watch hotel entertainment!!! Morgans Bar just across the road is guaranteed good night with excellent shows every hour, keep walking along same road and you are totally spoilt for choice with bars offering every kind of entertainment from karoake, irish singalong, country western, caberet style singers, comedians and commediennes (dont miss Chrissy Rock). Our favs were the Sister Act (Morgans Bar) We Will Rock You (Morgans) Levi (Sandras - happy hour ALL night) Words and Music (various venues but don't miss them) Albi Senior (next door to Gigolos, cant remember name of bar sorry). Another excellent venue is Sinatras just up from Cafe Benidorm, clean, gorgeous waiters, excellent entertainment most nights.
Beaches are gorgeous, old town well worth a visit, market twice a week Sun and Wed, theme park Terra Mitica, water parks Aqualandia, zoo/animal park Mundomar and Terra Natura all within easy reaching distance, short bus rides or slightly more expensive taxi rides or good walking distances (except Terra Mitica and Terra Natura unless you're Linford Christie).
As you can see, we loved Benidorm - going back May 2010 for family holiday - 7 adults and have booked Pelicanos/Ocas already.
"As seen on TV"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned, last Thursday(04/06/09) from 2 weeks at the Pelicanos. After reading some of the reviews on here and on various other websites we where a little aprehensive about what we had let ourselves in for. Check-in was quick, was given a room on the seventh floor of the Pelicanos, and to our surprise was asked if we would like a lower floor room which we did not take up the option. Found reception staff to be polite and helpful. Rooms were typical Sol hotel rooms, cleaned daily and served there purpose, nothing flash tv worked ok,just short of a few more sockets,if you need to charge your phone,I-Pods etc. The dining experience was not as bad as anticipated,on reading previous comments, food was hot,ok it got a bit samey after the first week but dosen't all hotels at this level. Full English breakfast was spot on,they will cook pancakes and omlettes for you while you wait, just got a bit busy a night and had to clear and set our own table a couple of times, but that was no big deal. The staff in the restaurant worked really hard and seemed to be a couple of people light to be honest. Drinks are really expensive in the restaurant,£2.30 for a beer and £1.30 for a bottle of water, same in the bar downstairs as-well. The pool is the best I have ever seen and I have travelled quite a lot, absolutley massive, clean, with a really over the top strict life guard,"no messing here". No inflatables, balls etc allowed. Had no problems taking our own food and drink etc round the pool, and if you wanted you could put your towels down early and reserve your bed with no probs. The filming of "Benidorm" was taking place the first week of our holiday, and about a quarter of the pool had been cordoned off which we where not advised about at the time of booking or before we travelled. All in all we had a fab time and would say to anyone,"if you want four/five star for three star money, which a lot of people seem to expect, forget it you won't get it here",basically you get what you pay for. Well worth the money and will return.

"So, Pelicanos"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a lovely hotel but let down very badly by the staff and the food, breakfast was ok but evening meal very bad ok if you like overcooked chicken (every meal) and also fish (which i do like) but also overcooked. The staff were rude and uncooperative, if you wanted ice to take to the room the barman thought it was his own private propery. A party of four of us went to this hotel for a week with Thomas Cook the rep Stacey is a very nice lady unless you had a problem then she didnt want to know. We would never return to this hotel or recomend it to anyone.

"Sol peli-hennight stag"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just got back from this hotel on the 25th April 2009. I booked this hotel due to being there before but did not expect a total change in the hotel... 1 year previous the hotel was a quiet, family hotel... this time it was full of young, lively people most on stag or hen nights. On Arrival staff were lovely and helpful... wish i could say the same about the rep Stacey but i cant... She was anything but helpful. We stayed in the Ocas part of the hotel which is smaller but this did not really bother us. The rooms was clean and well maintained. We hired a fridge which was 30 Euros for a week... Best thing we did as you can go to the supermarket on the corner and buy Pepsi at 39 cent a can. Also cheap beer for people who drink. The hotel itself is very expensive for drinks... so we shopped around. The best club we went to while we stayed in Benidorm was Morgens tavern. The Staff are great and the entertainment is fab. While staying in Benidorm alot of people were pick pocketed so beware. Even at the airport when you are getting your cases. BEWARE OF THE MONKEYS... THEY PICK YOUR CASH AND JEWELERY
Please be aware cause we were not... That from Thursday to a Sunday ... There are alot of Stag and Hen party's here at the hotel who are very noisy and can cause trouble.
If you are wanting to go on trips to Mundermar... go to the booth next to the Ambassador as it only cost you 12 Euros instead of 21 euros.
Over All Weather was great but i would not stay at the Pelicanos/ocas again due to the stag and hen nights. Please beware if you have children
