A very big busy hotel. Not good for wheel chairs or prams, steps everywhere we noticed people with there kids buggys lifting them up stairs to restraunt pool etc. Our room was for 3 people the third bed was a camp bed what a joke!! The room smelt pongy a few times like sewerage through the fan, we complained and got a can of air freshener. The first choice holiday rep is Spanish, The hotel was nearly full of spanish people, not so many brits the week i went. The staff on reception found it hard to understand how to speak english i asked for a courtesey room and the one woman said i dont know and to ask her manager, DUH!!, The hotel staff were not at all friendly especially in the crazy dining room, people going mad for food. Hard to get a sunbed where the big pool is as other people come from other hotels to use it. We went around the other side of the hotel the Sister hotel Ocas, guaranteed a sunbed there up until 10am and it was quieter there nice pools. Also there is no hairdyer in the rooms as it states on the web site, and you had to hire the hairdryer from the reception 40 minutes what a joke, I ended up buying one from the chinese shop around the corner. Also the prices of drinks were so expensive to outside pubs, and ice creams were over 3 euros, outside the same ones wer 1 euro, Hotel is a rip off when you have to spend money on drinks and food.

we,ve been going to pelicanos for 7yrs but they have spoilt it now, they are letting in large groups male and female which made it very noisy round the big pool. by cutting cost they got rid of the towel lady who stood at bottom of patio stairs, she walk round the pools after 09 00 am and took towels off beds which had been reserved.theyve dropped dress code in dining room guest were coming to dinner straight from pool in shorts and swimsuits.meals were a lot better it was hot and great if you liked chicken it was on every night, and fish, nice if you like sword fish. the wife and i was put in a converted single room into a double you could n,t swing a cat round.

The hotel has a very opulent reception area but the only drawback is the rooms as they do not match the standard of the reception area. They are very basic and old fashioned and rather tired looking. Athough there was some refurbishment going on of other rooms so maybe there is hope yet. It does, however have one redeeming feature - the pool - AND WHAT A POOL IT IS !!!! It is absolutely amazing and has to be the best kept secret in the resort as it is not at all visible from the road, in fact, it took me and my mum two days of searching to find it and it is right next to the hotel !!!!! I am most certainly planning to return to Benidorm and will be staying at the hotel everytime I visit as all the amenities are very close by

Crikey where do I start, the pool was great however the as promised swim up bar was closed, continous drilling noises and hammering from the chaps repairing the poolside tiles was off putting, the rooms were clean and well looked after, the rooms have no hairdryers and it costs 30e deposit for 1 hour, the air conditioning was useless and the room we had was sweltering, the TV has 1 international news channel and 3 american 3red rate serial channels. Worst of all the resteraunt, the Dinner was chaotic and had no waiter service for drinks, we purchased a drink in the hotel bar and were refused entry and were told if we wanted a drink with meals you have to purchase from the bar inside the resteraunt, large slop carts were placed around the room into which you were expected to scrape your food scraps, the food quality at dinner was ok but very repetitive , chicken, pizza, fish, assorted paella, some pasta and of course chips. Breakfast was just grim, badly organised, queues for hot breakfast including of course chips but you then faced a long wait for toast as the machines are slow and only toast one side at a time, coffee kept running out and fruit juice was just farcical, orange came out grapefruit, water came out grapefruit flavoured and the queues were ridiculous, how fights didnt break out was beyond me. And before you say you get what you pay for I would suggest that £1200 for 2 people 7 days is not cheap. Other hotels for half that price were much better and in a similar location, in my opinion they are cashing in on the benidorm fame.;

I have stayed at this hotel a few times before but this time the standards have dropped. Two reasons 1. the food was acceptable but very repetative and below previous standards. 2. We travelled with small children and they put us on the same floor as very noisey larger louts. The hotel was only half full when we checked in and they asked us which floor we would like. They should have used common sense and not mixed families with stag parties. I think we will give this hotel a miss next time.

My husband and I are great fans of the Pelicanos. We have been a few times, it is a good hotel that is quite big and has loads of good facilities and entertainment. Food is excellent and the rooms are done out to a very high standard, quite big. It is the best hotel we have been to in Benidorm and we have been to a few.

"Sol Pelicanos, Benidorm"

After arriving at Alicante in December we caught the Shuttlebus (pre-booked) from the airport to Benidorm (17 Euro's each return). Location was on the flat and only 300 meters from the beach with bars and shops close by. The reception personnel were polite and helpful. We were on the 12th floor (there are over 700 rooms) and the twin room was a standard design for this type of hotel - Twin Beds, satellite TV, Balcony, ensuite and Air Con. There were 4 lifts to our floor. Everywhere was very clean and the maid came in daily. There was a large selection of food in the restaurant with salads, pizza's and a selection of meats and fish. Lots of entertainment available although the pools were closed, but you could use the sun beds. Childrens play area.

Poor

This hotel has only one thing going for it....Its position. The food is exceptionally poor. The building is run down and shabby. If you want a hair dryer, you have to go to reception and hire one for 30 Euros, the same as a the TV remote control. On checking in, we were asked which floor we wanted to be on....Hey, we thought "What a great place", but after that, everything was down hill. I told the Thomson rep about the Union flag being flown up-side down. When she expressed surprise and didn’t realise it could be. She checked on the internet, found out which way up it should be flown, saw the reception, but nothing was done to put it right, showing complete disregard for our flag and country. (The reception did say that they would do it sometime). Food wise....The vegetables were only luke warm, soaking in water. The meat was hard and over cooked. The chefs' looked completely bored and couldn't be bothered. A small bottle of SEMI-chilled water was 1.60 Euros. The beds need replacing badly, the one pillow was flat. The TV had buttons broken, so it was difficult to use. No Sky News channel, only Bloomberg and CNN together with BBC World news. The entertainment shows were amateurish and third rate.. The stage was hard to see after the first 3 rows.

this hotel the orcas, is no good for the disabled and walking wounded, as there is a lot of steps down into the hotel lobby and a lot of the blighters inside as well. we had the top 11th floor and when you opened the balcony door it acted as a wind tunnel and draged the smells up through the building into the room, simple thing to do is not use the balcony then you dont open the door.. breakfasts were cold beens ,cold bacon, but you could do toast and the egges were cooked in front of you so these were piping hot one day its fried eggs the next its poached eggs but they all work well with toast other meals wre fine. the hotel is in the heart of the new side but hardly any noise heard through the night entertainment in the sister hotel was ok. as as Benidorm is the shoe shop capital of spain [& poss the med] plenty of shops to look around at.. by the way this it the hotle that the do the pool scenes at for that Benidorm program but only the pool bits they dont use the hotel at all.. we had a canny time and would go back.." Top Tip:"the town night club/ pub a good night out, with elvis [dave],, also for a good watch go to John and josephs just down the road for your food through the day its the cheapest any were in the area, ans ee them running around with arms full of plates trying to serve the customers is a laugh to say the least.

"Pelicanos/Ocas - it'll do for us"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Very Good

Open quote

have stayed in this hotel a few times now and found it suits all ages although have never taken small children so cannot comment on kids facilities. There are two hotels, bus drops you off at Pelicanos but we have nearly always been put in the Ocas. Both hotels are same quality although I think the Pelicanos is a bit newer - nothing in it really. Double rooms are of a good standard, always clean, small balcony, air con, maid service every day, bed made, floor swept, clean towels and toilet roll etc every day. Meals are buffet style and there is always a good choice of meats and fish, salad always available, often veggie paella as well as traditional, pizzas, pasta etc.

For us, the best feature of these hotels is the Pelicanos Pool - gorgeous!! This is the pool area they use for the TV series Benidorm and it is as good as it looks! We can lie there nearly all day, getting the sun all the time if you move round the pool! Immacuately clean, sometimes pool guards can be a bit OTT if a henny or stag group get a bit noisy, but hey, they're on holiday too. Pool bar and cafe is reasonable although its much cheaper to pop out to the many food outlets nearby and sneak it back in.

The indoor market just beside the hotels is a great visit, just inside the door is a smashing British run bakery/snack food and their cakes are amazing - they even rustled up an impromptu birthday cake for one of your group.

Hotel entertainment - can't comment coz who in their right minds goes to Benidorm and stays to watch hotel entertainment!!! Morgans Bar just across the road is guaranteed good night with excellent shows every hour, keep walking along same road and you are totally spoilt for choice with bars offering every kind of entertainment from karoake, irish singalong, country western, caberet style singers, comedians and commediennes (dont miss Chrissy Rock). Our favs were the Sister Act (Morgans Bar) We Will Rock You (Morgans) Levi (Sandras - happy hour ALL night) Words and Music (various venues but don't miss them) Albi Senior (next door to Gigolos, cant remember name of bar sorry). Another excellent venue is Sinatras just up from Cafe Benidorm, clean, gorgeous waiters, excellent entertainment most nights.

Beaches are gorgeous, old town well worth a visit, market twice a week Sun and Wed, theme park Terra Mitica, water parks Aqualandia, zoo/animal park Mundomar and Terra Natura all within easy reaching distance, short bus rides or slightly more expensive taxi rides or good walking distances (except Terra Mitica and Terra Natura unless you're Linford Christie).

As you can see, we loved Benidorm - going back May 2010 for family holiday - 7 adults and have booked Pelicanos/Ocas already.
