La Manga..the place the spanish go for their holidays is exactly that.hardly any english tourists.
La manga is a strip of land jutting out from the spanish mainland for about 20km.it has the advantage of having the choice of 2 seas, the Mar menor,a shallow lagoon and the med.both seas boast warm clear water, the mar menor being used by jet skiers and motor boats all day.the first 10km of la manga are fiarly built up with apartment blocks, shops and restaurants, the remaining land is steadily being developed.we booked a fortnight(in august) in a 3 bed luxury apartment in the genova building at Las Gondolas, about 18km along the strip.the apartment was spotless and very well equipped for the 4 of us with the well needed aircon in the lounge.the balcony from the lounge looked out onto the beautiful mar menor,a 2 minute walk and all the bedrooms looked out to the med, again a 2 minute walk.there was a small bakers underneath the apartment,a fruit and veg shop opposite and a small supermarket near to the mar menor beach.there were also several restaurants nearby within walking distance.a car is essential although there is a bus service which runs up and down the strip(very cheap) but is not very reliable, timewise!
there is a burgerking and 2 large supermarkets at the thomas maestro marina, about 5km from las gondolas and loads of restaurants as well as the ferry that will take you over to santiago on the mainland for 3.50 euros each.the ferry leaves on the odd hours and returns on the even hours.
overall great holiday and would like to return in about 5 years when it has built up more

Just thought I'd let you people out there who think this sounds an upmarket place to holiday in, it's not. The place was pretty well derelict with graffitti all over the place. There was also nothing to do in the evenings infact nothing to do at anytime unless you just want to lounge by the pool all day. We couldn't believe how empty the place was we hardly saw anybody walking about day or night, it was like a cemetry with lights.
The Hotel was of a high standard and stood out like a sore thumb BUT the food was always served cold and the staff couldn't speak any english so it was difficult to get through to them on any subject.
We holiday 3 to 4 times a year abroad and don't often return feeling like this so therefore we would not recommend this resort to anyone, and we certainly will not be returning.
We've always fancied going to La Manga, couple of mad golfers in the family. With the new flights from Glasgow Prestwick Airport direct to Murcia (15 Mins) from resort, we gave it a go.

Picked up our hire car from Murcia airport and found our way to the La Manga Golf Resort very easily, road were excellent.
We had booked our accommodation on the internet throught owners direct, a first for us. The accommodation looked like everything we needed.
On arrival we were very pleased, it was clean, spacious all mod cons and a real home from home. Plus the views from our balcony were terrific.
The second bedroom had a Play station 2 with plenty of games, a real treat for my daughters as this is one of the only things they don't have. There were plenty of DVD's. I know TV's don't appeal to everyone on holiday but it was nice to chill out for a couple of hours in the afternoon to get out of the heat, then back out late afternoon to catch the last few hours of sun.
We have 3 - 4 weeks in the sun most years and always (with the exception of Florida) stay in good quality hotels. What a change for us, this was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. No need to get up for breakfast at set times, or put towels on sunbeds, or have to leave the pool at the most pleasant time of day to get ready for regimented dinner times of a hotel.
We wanted relaxation and we got it.
Even had a couple of fantastic BBQ's on our superb balcony with amazing views out over towards other villages and sea.
On site itself there is Golf, Tennis bike hire etc, some OK restaurants, we found the best when we left resort, and found typical little spanish seaside towns, eating in some lovely settings overlooking the beach or marina.
We would definately go back and I would stay at the same apartment. I would like to find somewhere as great and highly recommended in Italy or Portugal.
My daughters both enjoyed it and want to book again for our summer break next year.
This hotel is advertised as a 4 star hotel. In fact it is a converted apart hotel in a run down condition. Facilities are at best basic at worst poor.

This hotel is advertised as a 4 star hotel. In fact it is a converted apart hotel in a run down condition. Facilities are at best basic at worst poor.
Hotel staff excellent, food basic, rooms very poor. Hotel is between a run down dirty apartment block and a high rise apartment complex. Pool is hankerchief size with about 20 worn out loungers. Right on a dual carraigeway which you have to cross to get to the beach. Area is not for those who ever want to leave the hotel - which everyone wants to do! Entertainment is fourth rate - bar (which is really part of the foyer) would better suit selling burgers. Beware of having to empty the bucket next to your air conditioning unit! Don't go if you are old as you will have to get someone it to hang your clothes up.
Nearest bank is a hike aware as is any half decent resteraunt. All in all just go somewhere else! They are trying to refurbish the hotel but that won't include moving to a better location.
