Lovely hotel, although it is five star so prices of food and drink are expensive. San Juan is a very Spanish resort for the Costa Blanca and going in January it was very quiet. Restaurants / bars in the resort if open in the evening were quiet, ate in hotel restaurant twice on three night stay (and were on own).
A few points, on hotels own website they are offering spa breaks at the moment - the spa is shut for renovation! Some massages, which were very relaxing, are available in some set aside hotel rooms - but sauna / spa pool / gym etc is all closed.
The restaurant offers two menus, a very expensive A La Carte or a cheaper fixed menu (which is of an equal high standard). You will not be offered the cheaper menu unless you ask for it.
Indoor pool is very nice, but be warmed its not that heated!
Beach was lovely on warm January days, as was sitting in sun for lunch and a beer!
Alicante is worth a visit, the hotel has a free minibus service although this is not that regular. Bus No 22 runs from Alicante to near the hotel, or the tram service will bring you back for a walk along the beach to the hotel.
Visit the castle in Alicante, you can walk up or apparently there is a lift. Just watch how you head down, we walked down along the wall about 20-25 mins, quite steep with a quite a few steps, got to almost street level and found a locked gate!
All in all an excellent mid-winter break.
