This is a lovely beach resort with train links to Barcelona and Girona. Although we had a car we didn't do a lot of exploring as the children were quite happy to spend their time on the beach. We have been to Santa Susanna several times now and have never been disappointed. This is a great place if you want a good beach holiday, although it can get a bit noisy at night with people leaving the bars and clubs.

Santa Susanna beach is man made ... the shore is steep, 2-3 meters into the sea and the water is over your head. The beach itself is made from rocks that were gridded (sandy-dusty-pebbly). No showers or toilets. Very handy for visiting Barcelona, the train station is just 5 mins walk away and the service is quick and cheap.

A great base for exploring, a quieter resort on the costa brava, theres a few restaurants and bars along the main strip, but generally low key. the discos are available up the road in Malgrat, but Blanes, Tossa and the other resorts are in easy reach by car/bus/train

There is 3 british pubs to mention for a cheap beer,The Station, Murphys and The Ship(which is also good for karaoke evenings and sporting events). I would recommend going to Barcelona for the evening to see the fountains and lights as it is breathtaking. The area of Santa Susanna is basically a 10 year old 2 mile strip of hotels along the seafront on the way to Malgrat de Mar, this is where you find the souvineer shops, discos, british pubs and local bars. The boulevard walk into Malgrat is modern and pleasant with cafes and bars along the way but this time of year they were mostly closed. In between the hotel boulevard and the sea runs the local train service which takes you all the way into Barcelona for 6.5 euros each. This was a 1hr 10min journey and we enjoyed the daytrip to the city.

Out of the hotel, the train station is immediately opposite the hotel and can take you through many different areas for almost no cost - we paid 6.40 euros each for a return ticket to Barcelona - and thanks to the helpful lady working at the train station, we were able to find a couple of things we hadn't heard about, such as a market a few junctions down.
We had a go on a buggy from Daves Rentals, not cheap at 60 euros, but was nice for an hour, fun to drift around on the sandy areas of the mountains (dont worry, you follow a staff member, so wont get lost!). We also visited Blanes which seemed nice, although not too much to do there!
Had a go on one of the flying blue boats you see whizzing up and down the coast all day, expensive and to be honest, rubbish! Its very very windy, nauseating and expensive!
We went to the Medieval night, which is about 46 euros per person, the coach picks you up just round the corner and takes you there before the show starts (and returns you when its finished). Along with the medieval show, you also get the flamenco dancing show afterwards too. In all honesty, I felt this was a great build up event, you turn up to a very realistic looking castle, internally is all realistic too, you walk to the main hall where you line up in classic old style rows, lots of drinks in front of you to drink in your own time. The show however was a huge let down, very fake and childish, good for kids, bad for adults! The food was also awful so I would eat prior to going to this event!
The last thing to mention really is a small pub about 10 minutes walk from this hotel, The Ship, a scottish bar. Great atmosphere and friendly staff, Karen and Kay in the evenings and Paul during the daytimes. Its on the other side of the road just after the promenade, if you cross over on the bridge (theres only one of these!) its a 2 minute walk to the left after this.

As I went with my young child I couldnt comment on the nightlife but did see a few clubs. The beaches were very clean and my daughter loved it and it felt safe. Can get pestered with massage ladies and men selling things but they do take no for an answer.Lots of the usual holiday type shops but lots of buses and trains into neighbourng resorts and barcelona should you want to go futher. There is a large supermarket if your self catering or for bits for your room.

This is a pretty average resort, there is lots to do elsewhere on the island though so don't be put off, as Majorca is pretty small. We didn't hang around the resort much so can't really comment in much detail other than what we saw in the mornings and evenings.

Nice resort, as we went last week of summer season, most places closed or closing that week. Not that good for families with young children, not much for them to do. The train station was very close by so you can go to Barcelona or other resorts easily. Lovely beach.

Pineda / Calella De La Costa review
"little pineda"
resort to a friend
thank god for cheap trains.nothing to do in pineda, beach is very gritty, hardly any day or nightlife.
The resort is great for families with children. Its not a party town really, but the beach is superb, good selection of bars and restaurants. Good for diving and water sports too.

Tossa De Mar review
"peaceful and traditional"
resort to a friend
The hotel is 5 mins walk from the bus station, 15-20 mins walk from the beach and a very pleasant 10mins stroll to the resort centre. The bars were nice never visited the piano bar much but it had a relaxed atmosphere, the main bar was nice but the pillars got in the way. The little cottage style bar was my favourite as it was never too busy (apart from when Arsenal were playing! But even then there was 10-12 tables spare. This bar was again relaxed and calm. Never went to the nudist roof in peak hours but did when everyone was gone. Lovely Jacuzzi and lovely views over the hotel.

The beach was only about a 5 mins walk! It was a really nice beach !!! *warning* nude sunbathers!! The sand was funny! it was like tiny pebels! he sand was so hot that you couldn;t walk on it for more than a couple of seconds ! We went 2 barcalona for a day with a trip. It was very nice! it was 40 degrees there.. It maintained around 34 - 38 degrees in tossa! There were lots of shop close to the hotel. It was like a giant market. There were loads of places to eat there. There were restraunts by the castle! Overall, the holiday was good, no nightclubs close so besically its a cheap beachy holiday!

The only minor drawback was the proximity of Lloret beach which was 600m away but across a busy road and down a relatively steep hill, but it was at the Castle end of the resort which was very pretty and close to the shops with good ,cheap, restaurants. The local bus stopped close to the hotel and the main bus station was only a short walk away.
