Platja d'aro is a pleasant resort, quite modern and with a large selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Some of the shops are quite 'up market'& the place has a lively affluent feel about it.There are many bars & restaurants facing the main beach & we particularly liked 'Friends' which was run by a young Dutch couple. You can catch buses to Girona (about 40 mins.)Palamos,Palafuegell,(20-30 mins.)S'Agaro(10 mins.) & Barcelona(approx.2 hours). We went to Figueres by bus to Girona & then train to visit the Dali Museum ( Teatre-Museu Dali) but it was so crowded it was difficult to see very much.I would avoid unless you are a keen Dali or Surrealist fan. We intended to go to Tossa on the boat which goes up & down the coast, but being September cetain services are curtailed and this was one of them & we left it too late. Otherwise it was a bus to Girona & then out again. We will save that & lots of other places for a return visit, when I would consider hiring a car. This is a beautiful coast, lots of secluded coves & lovely beaches, can't wait to return next September when it is not so hot & the crowds are less.
