Tossa de Mar is a lovely atmospheric kittle town on the costa brava,i travelled there looking for a quiet break and i found it, forget every thing people have told you about this coast,i know i did; Lloret de Mar is'nt brash or brazen it is just laid back.It has a couple of lovely beaches, truly wonderful restuarants and nice people,it is catalonian and therefore has a wonderful individualism about it that i've not encountered in mainland Spain that i've holidayed in before. The town itself is lovely, particularly the old town with it's lovely old walls and buildings,it's full of fab places to eat and i must say the people i met were very friendly. Its also very easy to get around;it's small and everythinh is centered around the old town,i really thought that this side of spain would have been beyond my means this little gem retains most of its unique character; i wonder how long for ?

"Tossa De Mar - ok"

Really pleasently suprised with this resort, still very typically Spanish and quaint. Lots of lovely restaurants and tapas bars....3 English bars..which was quite refreshing for mainland Spain. The only downside of this was we were on a family holiday with 2 children aged 2 and 4 who much prefer nuggets and chips! Luckily we were on All Inclusive at our hotel so we didnt starve! the beach was coarse sand...much to my childrens disappoinment as the sand castles weren't sandy! Also the shoreline was quite steep so you needed to be very careful, step and eye were needed!

A half hour bus ride took us into Lloret de Mar which was totally the opposite where nugget and chips were of plenty even McDonbalds with a seaview. Tossa de Mar shops were quite upmarket, even the tourist shops ...but in Lloret, same items to buy but about 1/2 the price of in Tossa so the bus journey was well worth it for the savings made!

"Tossa De Mar ok"

There was a beautiful walled medieval village on the hillside with little bars and restaraunts. Tossa was more for the non drinkers as there was no entertainment in any of the bars which didnt really suit us as we do like a bit of liveliness on a night. To visit other resorts you needed to get a bus into lloret de mar which was a lively resort and what we could have done with was tossa by day and lloret by night from lloret you could then get a bus to blanes and once in blanes there was a railway startion where you could get a train to the other nearby resorts. The bus fares were cheap about 1.90 Return tossa to lloret and same from lloret to blanes. The food was ok but after eating out in gran canaria (puerto rico ) we found it a lot more expensive and a lot less on your plate ! The beach looked gorgeous but once on we found it to be made of golden gravel. Overall enjoyed the change from our usual holiday but a week was quite long enough

A very picturesque resort with a great castle to explore.

Fantastic beach which could get crouded in peak season

Transfer was about 40mins from Gerona so a hire car really helped.

What a great place! Fab food, a lot of which was inexpensive. Lovely beaches, the see was superb to swim in, there was a gentle classy bustle about the place of an evening. The local people were very friendly. I spent most of my time on the beach & wondering around the resort utilising the cafes, bars, shops and restaurants. would recommend a stroll around the old walled area. Overall - very impressed!

"No. 1 on the Costa Brava"

Overall Resort Rating:

Very Good

Open quote

Tossa is a great resort if you want the beauty of the Costa Brava and to avoid the all night party atmosphere of some resorts further south. Having said that, is is not 'quiet & secluded' - plenty to do for all ages, a good baech, easy bus ride to Barcelona, and easy access from Girona airport too.

The old town is beautiful by day and night. The walk to the lighthouse is well worth it for the views and burns off the calories from the wonderful food served in excellent restaurants.

"Hotel Nepuno, Tossa-de-Mar"

Overall Resort Rating:

Tossa is a very quiet seaside resort, if you want heaving nightclubs go to Loret down the coast. Tossa is overun with places to eat so you would never go hungry there are loads mostly serving typical spanish food, there are also plenty of small bars, though imported drinks are expensive. If you want a good english based pub try Chaplins music bar, where the many of the younger locals go aswell. The castle and it's suroundings are lovely but once you have seen that there is not a lot to do. There are boats which run frequently along the coast, and also good bus service so you can explore. The shingle beach is very clean with plenty of space ideal if you have small children, teenagers could easily be bored here so beware. The only downside to our holiday was the transfers from Girona airport, what should have taken an hour took three after we went around Loret thre times dropping of and picking up people returnig to the airport, if I go again I would pre-book a taxi.

"brill holiday!!"

Overall Resort Rating:

Tossa is a beautiful quiet place with little night life, when we tried to enter bars at about 10pm we were told they were closed and found it difficult to find anywhere willing to serve food after about 9pm. There was an abundance of pizza places but very little else. Most of the food served was either cold, slammed down in front of us or we just didn't get served at all. We are not young loud kids we are 2 couples who like a laugh and good food. Sherwoods was mentioned by others but they were the worst at being polite. Only british bar was Holly's and they were a bit more welcoming, problem was the food, breakfast was ok but the toast was like last weeks stale bread and it was impossible to cut it splintered everywhere!! My other half had a pie there and was ill for the rest of the day so avoid them!! although the steak pudding was very good. It was more expensive than other places in Spain but we used the kitchen and made a couple of cheap meals to help out. We counted 5 people smiling during a whole week. The sand is only small stones/gravel so is not particularly suitable for kids. If the people were nice I would consider buying a property in Tossa but I don't think I could stand the rudeness, I think they are too close to France!!

Tossa is not at all like the popular image of the Costa Brava. It is quite refined, quiet, and very Spanish with a slight Bohemian feel - no Macdonalds or Burger Kings anywhere! The castle and Vila Vella dominate the town and provide a peaceful cool area for a stroll

"Shambles of a hotel, dirty & mismanaged!"

Overall Resort Rating:

Very Good

One problem with this resort is the distinct lack of taxi's and poor parking facilities. My mother and I are not able to walk very far, but were told that as it is so small a town, we could not get a taxi at all (I only saw one in the whole 5 days). We had a hire car but it took about 30 mins to find a parking spot (unless you wanted to pay for the multistorey which was charged per minute!) and invariably ended up further away from where you wanted to go than the hotel! So simply not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Other than that, it is a charming town, with beautiful streets and lovely coastline. The people were generally very friendly and the restaurants reasonably priced, especially for the fish set menus. Really recommend gonig to Empurias (quite a long way away) to see the Roman City Remains - that was fantastic.

The resort itself is very good fantastic for shoppers and a great beach, you can get breakfast from loads of resturants from 5 euros which is good enough....like hollys or sherwoods.Overal tossa is a quite place felt very safe walking around there anytime of the day or night i must recomend the resturant andres,s in town as this was fantastic value..you get a large starter, main meal, dessert and a drink for 10 euros.... also the chinese opposite andres,s does a great buffet for 9 euros each....eat all you can. we did the glass bottem boat which was good. The supermarket next door to the hotel is very good value for money, do your shopping in there for your essentials.hope you find this review helpfull......would i'go back there again?......yes i would just make sure you sort out the transfers.... If you have teenagers this might not be the holiday for you as there is virtuly no nightlife here....happy holidays
