The beaches are gorgeous and if you fancy a nice, long walk (about 30 mins) you can follow the promenade all the way to the local harbour which is very pretty and has some nice restaurants.
In Roquetas, the amount of bars and restaurants is quite limited. They were nice for on a lunchtime when you wanted a nice refreshing pint of lager as you get free tapas with every drink and therefore gets you a free lunch at the same time.

a must see is mojacar village and the lovely church there, a lot of scruffy unfinished buildings, not enough shops or places to visit

We liked Mojacar as it is a bit more Spanish than some other resorts we have been to. There was also a good selection of restaurants and shops. The beach was very nice and the weather was excellent.

The resort of Vera Playa has great beach which is about 4 miles long running to the villiage of Gurracha, the 1st mile or so is mostly naturist from the hotel on past the naturist urbanisations its a lovely beach which is cleaned every morning and has plenty of beach bars both textile and naturist, there are toilets and lifeguards along the beach and a few shops to buy beach supplys. There are quite a few restaurantsand bars dotted though out the resort and if you go a bit further towards Gurracha there is a larger selection along the main road as well as some great fish restaurants in the village its self, a small holiday land train runs during high season from Vera Playa to Gurracha and the local bus is very cheap but if you like a walk you can actually walk the beach its about 2 miles. There's a market in Gurracha on a friday and in Vera town which is a couple of miles in land on a Saturday morning. Vera Playa also has a Waterpark although it was closed when we where there I think its open from May- Sept its beside the large Consum supermarket which has a great chinese wok restaurant and a ciber cafe and an Indian as well, it was only a couple of minutes walk from the apartment we stayed in on Vera Luz. I would recomend the resort to couples and families its a nice place for a relaxing holiday and only a few miles to Mojacar for busier night life but the local bars suited us fine.
There is a beautiful long sandy beach in Playa Vera which is cleaned every morning, there are several lifeguard posts, toilets & showers, a fair few beach bars & stalls selling inflatables, buckets spades, shades etc. There is an area for the naturists. The resort has a large supermarket, water park (well worth a visit or 2 check out the website for discount voucher) & shops, banks & restaurants are spread out along the main road but there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Garrucha, Mojacar & Villaricos are a short drive away & all well worth a visit and market day is a must(if only to look at the wonderfully fresh produce). Try one of the fish restaurants in Garrucha - delicous fresh fish. Mojacar has far more restaurants & night life to choose from (& alot more Brits). There is a land train which runs nightly to Garrucha for a couple of euro's from the Vera Playa Club Hotel which is close by and seems to have stops all along the different urbanisations and the local bus service is excellent. All in all Vera Playa is a great base with lovely accomodation & would recommend particularly for couples & young families we had a great time but not suitable for those wanting "Ayia Napa" nightlife!

Naturist area with around 12 Urbinazations that opens right onto the beach. Ample bars and resturants for this lovely area. deffinately not a mad party resort really a great place to do some serious relaxing. Locals seem to have a great social thing going on and readily welcome new comers. The beach is lovely and is well served by bars.

Almeria, what can i say!
I'll write some tips for you if you read this.
I went here mainly to go to Creamfileds 2008 with my girlfriend and decided to stay in Almeria as we had seen photos of the city and we knew it wasnt that hard to get to El Ejido (creamfields)
When you land, There will be plenty of taxis outsied waiting for a passemgers. However the SPanish are very chilled out, you have to approach a driver and ask for a lift. Dont wait at the front of the queue like we did as they just stare at you. ha ha
So your on your way to your hotel wherever that may be...
You should learn, at the least, the basics of Spanish. Almeria came across as a tourist attraction but not for British tourists, more like Spanish tourists from other cities. This is very nice however you will need the basics
"where is the...." is "donde esta..." for example
The bus station in Almeria is in the centre of town and close to the beaches. Well i say close, its a 10 minute walk.
Get to know the bus timetables before you, its alot easier unless you know Spanish... The bus we used to go to El Ejido was A.L.S.A.
Don't be fooled by thinking Almeria is cheaper than Britain, it probably is slightly cheaper for things such as eating out and having a drink. Busses are cheap though
There a re many places to eat in Almeria, The district we went was called Puerta de Purchena" which had many shops, eateries and such like. There ia also a beautiful walkway which is nice to walk down at night time.
Try walking down some of the streets that have alleyways, these places turn out to be very authentic and serve an array of Tapas. There is no point in me telling you were exactly to eat and the name of the place as there are so many and do what the Spanish do. Have samll bite and move on, then have another small bite...
We went to the main beach called Playa de Zapallo. Girls, if you want a tan, just go here. Miles of beach and its usually busy, Not in a bad way though. One end is sand one end is stones. Top tip* Buy an umbrella before you go on holiday if you can. We could not find a shop selling ANY!
Go to the Alcabeza if you have time. Or make the time. You may not understand what is going on. But this was a place built by 14 cent. moors and then captured by the Christians. It has alot of history and has been turned into a small tourist attraction. It is free and you get cracking views from here.
If you have done your research before going. Then you need a car to travel to the Tabernas, we unfortunatley didnt have one.... boo
I f your looking for accomodation , seek close to the beach or centre of town.
axis are usually easily found, They are a reasonable rate but you will have to tell them where you want to go (in spanish).

If you like Spain, you will love this place. Eight miles of sandy beaches. Loads of places to eat and drink, beach side, and in the Mojacar village. A very Spanish resort, no high rise and a beautiful white washed village in the hillside easily accessible by bus. The best places we found to eat out were, Torre Bahia, spanish cuisine very resonable and excellent food, also very busy. Marielas, great beach side pool bar, with resonable food. There are many others most restraunts do have someone who can speak some English, and there are some British owned ones but they do tend to be very plain food, burgers etc and more expensive for what you get. There is a great waterpark, just 30 mins by bus and well worth a visit. A fantastic place for all ages, I cant recommend it enough.

Roquetas De Mar review
"A sleepy part of Spain"
resort to a friend
If you are looking for a nice peaceful relaxed holiday then this resort is the place to go. With it's laid back and peaceful approach to holidaying Roquetas del mar is perfect for the person who just wants to unwind. Don't expect to find strips and strips of bars with people falling out of them drunk. Instead the resort offers peace, quiet and good food and restaurants. Expect it to get slightly more busier when the weekend arrives as the Spanish hoards do bombard the resort at this time. However, it will not spoil a pleasant and relaxing holiday.

roquetas is an exciting new city on the up. It looks well kept and elegant. It has theatres, bull ring, exhibition centre, shopping mall and lots of touristy shops down on the urbanisation. The port is great for restaurants and seafood. A lovely city plenty to do for all kinds of people.
