Arrived on time and checked in to the hotel with the minimum of fuss. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was very spacious. The apartment had all the usual features (except a kettle which had been mentioned previously in the reviews), but had a very large fridge and freezer (very handy to keep ice creams which were much cheaper purchased at the local shop). Whilst the hotel mainly caters for a Spanish clientelle, all nationalities were made to feel welcome. Indeed, many a time I was the only Englishman playing Water Polo but I was accepted and not made to feel an outsider. The Animation Team work very hard to keep adults and children entertained on a daily basis but do not 'push' the activities so people are not pressurised to join in the fun. My children (13 and 7) really enjoyed the pool (especially the 2 slides) and the eldest met some lovely Spanish and British children playing there. Luckily. there wasn't the usual sunbed rush as the Spanish generally didn't appear until 1000 and sunbeds were not allowed to be reserved unless at least 1 person was actually using them and the cleaning of the poolside areas were not finished until 0930ish. We didn't stay around for the evening entertainment as we preferred the resort (especially the Playa Serena area) where we sampled many of the Restaurants and Cafe/Tapas Bars.
As described in other reviews, the resort centres amongst the cafe society set and we found this to be very relaxing (even our 2 children, really enjoyed the resort). If you're looking for a typical British holiday abroad, then this is not the resort for yo...

This is our second visit to Roquetas, we had such a good time 3 years ago. A different hotel this time, the Neptuno was an excellent hotel, it was clean, modern, the beds were bigger than the standard. (having a big husband suited better) and I would not be able to say enough about the food. There was so much choice and had a grill where the food was freshly cooked there and then. This was a group holiday and everybody agreed that this is the best hotel we have stayed in, in the last 5 years we have been going away together. Last time we stayed at the other end of the resort and had not drifted up this end but there was plenty to do, most of the bars were excellent. We almost always finished up in the Coconut bar where fruit was brought around on a tray all night. Another of the bars we regularly used was the Taberna Espaniola. This was a bar frequented by mainly Spanish but we were always made to feel very welcome and were served tapas every time of varying dishes. If you manage to get to the other end of the resort near the Zoraida Hotels, there is a bar called Paco's this was frequented by us the last time we were there and had got on very well with the owner. We went to visit one night and he had remembered us and made us very welcome. I would recommend this resort to anybody that doesn't want to do anything too active and the resort is fairly flat so it would be ideal for people with mobility problems and the disability access is excellent.

Roquetas de Mar is the place to go if you are not one who likes the hustle and bustle and brashness of say Benidorm or Torremolinos. The whole resort is spotless and flat. A good choice for oldies! There are lots of Bars and Restaurants, certainly enough to cater for every taste. The long promenade takes you from the resort centre right down to the old town and fishing port and now beyond. The tapas bars are a good idea, to eat out and try the local delicacies (included in the price of your drink).
We found Oasis very good for Tapas, and evening meals, something more homely was bar CHristine and Dicks, (good typically English ";PUB"; grub.) als with entertainment. Just along from there (Opposite the Playa Luna, was a smaller but lovely restaurant called GILBERTS. The place is very welcoming and the ambience and food is incredible. - Excellent. We ate there several times during our two weeks.
The little train tha runs through the whole of the resort is a good way to see the extent of the place and at 4 euros was well worth it.
