"El Rompido apartments"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Note that Spanish time is an hour ahead of Portuguese time. So when the pilot says the same time as in the UK when you land in Faro remember to put your watch an hour ahead when you cross the bridge into Spain. It is a two hour transfer from Faro to El Rompido and so make sure you have enough to eat and drink if you are arriving in the evening because the hotel restaurants will be closed and so will the supermarket and you will not want to walk into the village
We stayed in the self catering apartments and so we cannot comment on the quality of the all inclusive food, but other guests said that whilst the food was OK, it was boring because the same dishes were served all the time. The apartment was quite large and well furnished in a pleasant, contemporary style. We only go self catering so we can have a fridge and do stuff for breakfast and lunch on some days, but if you intend to do much cooking the facilities are a bit limited. In our 2 person apartment there was only a small hob, no kettle and three pans (large pot, medium frying pan, and a small pan) and the hob is too small to have the large pot and frying pan on at the same time. There is enough crockery, glasses and cutlery for 4, but not anything else. The supermarket does notopen until 10.00 am, is shut for siesta time and closes at 10.00 pm. It is not open on Sundays. It is quite expensive compared to the supermarket in the village (eg some items were almost twice as expensive).
We did not go to any of the evening entertainment events and so cannot comment on these. There is a French holiday company catering for there guests and they seemed to organise a lot of activities for them around the right hand people as you cross the bridge.
Note that the First Choice noticeboard is down the slope to the right of the reception area.

"El Rompido Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Overall this was a lovely holiday , which my family thoroughly enjoyed.
We stayed for just one week at the El Rampido apartments ( all inclusive) and were very impressed by them. When we arrived the Hotel had upgraded us( 1 bed apart to a 2 bed apart)as we had apparently arrived out of season. We found the apartments to be very clean with the linen changed every day, beds made too. Good sized bedrooms ( one with ensuite) and living area with an exceptional view over the ajoining golf course and to the country side. Air con in the apartment which supplied the two bedrooms as well. Small kitchenette area with untensils for S/C but we were staying all inclusive so this didn't matter. One note tho there was no kettle in the apartment so if you like your early morning cuppa then i would advise you to take one.
Being out of season we had to eat at the Hotel next door which was a very short walk, and was lovely. The only downside were the toasters, very slow at cooking apart from that the food was lovely and a very good range. My 9yo Daughter did struggle a little to find things to eat but generally the choice was varied.
Three pool areas to choose from all were really nice , if not cold, but once you were in they were ok. My daughter is not the best of swimmers and she struggled as there were no shallow ends to any of the pools as they were all the same depth all the way round also the edges of the pools were really rough and both myself and my daughter both grazed our fingers and hands holding onto the side. There were two small pools for very small children but nothing inbetween. A small playground was also provided and they had a fairly large room for the kids club but my daughter only spent 1 morning in there as she was to busy playing in the pool so cannot really comment on it.
I was a little let down by the snack bars tho...very under staffed and had to wait nearly every time we placed an order. A lot of people complained bitterly about this but generally the food was the standard stuff burgers, hot dogs, chips and Ice Cream.
The village of El Ramipdo is small and has a smattering of Restuarants, there is an English couple who run a Sports Cafe ( has Sky,the apartmens and hotel don't) who are lovely and we certainly enjoyed our afternnoon in there while watching Derby County win there play off final.
The nature trail is a nice walk if you need to get out and about and the walk to El Rampido itself is only about 15-20 minutes. The Noddy train takes you to the ferry port ( so you can go to the beach) about every hour apart fron siesta time.
Overall a really nice place , very quiet and perfect for relaxing.
