Just returned yesterday from our annual winter/spring break in Spain. We frequently visit the Pez Espada, we have no complaints. Food is always good and plentiful, rooms are nice and have TV and are clean. Entertainment good and it is right on that promenade so good for strolls in the sun and quite near the nice marina.

Me, my wife and my 15 year old son enjoyed a relaxing break in the October half term. We booked this break independently, it was easy. The hotel is very good, right on the beach and quite near the marina at Benalmadena.

Just returned from this hotel where we would have had a great holiday if I hadn't contracted gasto enteritis and was admitted to hospital (not hotels fault but something I ate in Puerto Banus). The hotel was very clean and all the staff very friendly. We paid for a suite with sea view and it was excellent, very spacious although we did find the balcony to be on the small side, but I think this was so with all the rooms. Although the location (right on the beach) was good we found that at this time of the year it was very quiet and going out of the front of the hotel was definately very quiet and a bit intimidating as lots of places were closed and we didn't feel comfortable walking out. Perhaps at other times of the year it would be better. The entertainment was mediocre and it would have been better if they could have put music on before the 'turn' to allow people to dance. On the nights they did this the entertainment room was always full and not just on the 'happy hour nights' We were a little disapointed with the food at night but the soup was always good and hot and lots for desert. Although there was salad stuff there didn't appear to be anything to go with it ie cold meats etc. I would god back to the hotel but at a different time of year. For anyone who did not want hotel entertainment there did not appear to be anything else to do in the immediate area.

It might have been grim in Luton when we left last Saturday but it was anything but in Torremelinos! Absolutely lovely hotel, fantastic choice of British food plus some lovely Spanish dishes. Entertainment thrown on in the evening, which is just as well as a lot of things are closed now. Right on the beach, which we were able to sunbathe on!

This was a very good hotel, and perfect for a short break in the sun as there is a lot to do nearby, the marina is lovely and its not too far from the airport. The food is lovely, there is often a roast meat carved by the chef. The rooms are nice, and most seemed to have good views out to sea. Lovely break.

I stayed in Torremelinos for 14 nights and never once got 'that sinking feeling' of having to return to the hotel after a fun day out. The room was clean and airy.

This is a very friendly hotel, which we first went to in 1975! It has been fairly recently decorated, and the rooms are very comfortable. Dinner is very nice, there is lots of choice. It is also right on the promenade and not far from the marina at Benalmadena.

"nice place"

I love the hotel. The location is very convenient, the food is first class, the accommodation is clean, the staff are friendly.

We rent a car for the two weeks so that we can get around visiting places in Andalucia, but feeling secure that we will be back at the Pez Espada for our evening meal. We just love the district including Torremolinos and the city of Malaga. We have spent vacations at many places in Europe and Asia, Canada and the USA and although we have a great love for the USA, we feel that our second home is in Spain at the Pez Espada.

We have already booked our holidays at the hotel for this year so that if you find this review satisfactory and you wish to book a holiday at our favourite hotel, please do so. We are secure in the knowledge that our booking is secure and that nothing will cancel it. Good luck to all you travellers, enjoy the sun and have a great time. We are English and live in London, UK but our thoughts go to our cousins in the USA of which we are very fond - come to Europe, experience this great place, be happy and go home refreshed.

"some tlc needed"

Overall Hotel Rating:

The hotel is in need of some tlc paint flaking off some walls but apart from that its good. The down side to this hotel is the rooms unless you want to pay more ie if you want a balcony which is an extra. The room that we had was ok the bathroom was one of the best that we had come across but ow the balcony was by a mile the worst we have ever had.Only one person at a time could go out on it and if both got on it would have to sit tandem style. The food is to a good standard but was repeated in the week that we were there.Staff are excellent through out the hotel, location could not get any better right on the front.

"great week"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

Stayed at the espada 25 sept for 1 week, the hotel is great, the food is spot on breakfast & eve meals. the rooms are a bit dated but comfortable with a flat screen tv ,safe & fridge which you have to pay 2 euros a day for.Right on the promenade so 2 mins to the sea. We found there is a lot of dog mess around as the spanish dont clear up after there dogs, so if you dont watch were you are walking you may go skidding down the promenade.I would not recommend this hotel for kids or teenagers as there is absolutly nothing here for them, its mainly geared up for the elderly.Overall a great week had by all.

We have just returned from our first visit to the Pez Espada. Hotel is spotlessly clean, staff very friendly and helpful.Good food although perhaps could have done with a few more desserts to choose from. We had a garden room view and it was definately worth the small supplement. After reading other reviews we were a little concerned about not being suitable for our teenage children. We needn't have worried there were lots of children of all ages.We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, and wouldn't hesitate to return.

food very good, buffet style, sometimes main meal queue mixes with salad queue, carvery queue mixes with sweet queue.Public rooms very good, bedrooms +corridors in poor state of repair, new paint over shabby walls, dirty carpets. Not enough sunbeds for the numbers in the hotel, towels on the sunbeds at 6-45am,the hotel states towels will be removed if this happens, but they never do.The hotel caters for wedding receptions at weekends which take priority.

we have this second came home,we had the best holiday ever .
this is one of the oldest hotels in the area but the staff at this hotel are the friendlest we have ever come across nothing is to much trouble for them.
the young lady that was in charge of animation was called Vanda she would come to get you at 11/30 and 13/30 you can sit and be sad or you can really enjoy yourself pistol shooting or darts or bouls or rifle shooting
i promise you will have the time of your life.
the rooms are cleaned every day and you will have clean towels and bed sheets every day,
the food is very good with something for all.
the pool area and the Cafe is spotless.

plenty of sun-beds for everyone but it did not stop the English and Germans getting up early to get their towels out ,the prices in the hotel are not bad but on Sundays and Tuesdays and Thursdays. two for one,go out of the hotel turn left about 50 yards then you will pay 1 euro for any bottle you name or a pint for £1.02 .

now for the down side i have always thought that Thomson's give you good value, but when we got to the airport at Cardiff my wife asked the gent on check in if we could have a window seat the gent told her no because we were not having a in flight meal we were not allowed ,we were the third persons in the queue i asked if this was Thomson's policy he just shrugged his shoulders.
we asked our rep at the hotel if this is Thomson's policy he said no it was not.
then when we were leaving we went to the check -in we asked again we were told no they were keeping these for the pre-booked seats
but there were empty seat on the plane going out and coming home the Spanish check in girl were going to give us the seats BUT THE THOMSON'S REP stopped her ,there were other people from our hotel who were behind us in the queue who the rep let them have window seats they did not ask or pay for.
i may use another tour operator in future who will appreceate our custom
