This is one excellent hotel. It is very clean and spacious. The pool is very big and there is alot of activities going on throughout the hotel. If i was too be picky about the hotel, the location is not great but that is if I was going to be very picky.

This hotel is the first hotel we have stayed at in Spain where the staff smile and actually seem to enjoy their work and appreciate the customer and their needs for a good holiday. The management were always in attendance at meal times enquiring and showing real concern that everything was satisfactory. They need not have worried as the food was superb with marvellous choice for all courses even for a fussy eater like myself.
From the check-in, to the quality of room and service received this was a hotel that deserved recommendation to anyone looking for relaxation and high quality accomodation.
We booked flights with Thomsonfly who now seem to be beating the BMI baby group in price regularly from Cardiff. Car hire through the reliable Carjet at £57 for one week for a Fiesta with a/c. The hotel was booked directly through Riu.com, with double room with seaview h/b costing approx £260.
The resort itself was not particularly exciting but it was February and not everything was open. It did seem to have a predominately German influence with only 2 English bars in the resort. It was only a 10 minute drive to Nerja which is much more geared to multi-national entertainment.
The pool area was immaculately maintained, the gardener was always in evidence doing general tidying of the area. The animation team worked hard day and night to entertain and amuse the guests. The pool bar was open for snacks and drinks during the day.
The unfortunate thing was that we only had 1 week there, as we both agreed that it was the most relaxing holiday we had taken, the weather was good and the venue faultless. We will certainly return and will look at the Riu hotels at other destinations where we travel for future holidays.
This is the third review I have placed on this site and have tried to be informative and give reflections on 'how the holiday was me', but to inform the things that others may not like.

We have just returned fron 18 nights over Christmas and New Year at the Hotel Riu Ferrara at Torrox Costa on the Costa Sol.This is the first longer stay holiday I have booked flights, tranfer and hotel separately and it has worked well, saving on the 'package prices'
The hotel earns all the Excellant catagories. The situation in beautiful.I had a sea view room ( 529) which took in the pool area and the sea with the morning and afternoon sun. ( the other wing having that later the evening sun)
The service from all the staff is first class the decor and cleanliness of all areas is also excellant.
Food at Breakfast and Dinner is buffet with a huge and varied selection. On arrival you will be asked to select an either a 18:00 or 20:00 sitting for dinner. We selected 20:00 which allowed for later day out.
Over the Christmas and New Year period the hotel seemed to at full or near capacity, so if you do not like a busy atmosphere with people selecing their food from the buffets, then this is not for you--but you do miss a wonderfull selection!
The hotel ( and resort) also seemed attract mainly German guests, but we like this mix of nationalities and also met Dutch and Belgian guests.
There are many bars and restaurants along the front at Terrox Costa but shopping is not extensive.Take the short bus drive into Nerja or longer into Malaga whch offers more than a shopping experince!
If you want a family holiday by the sun bed with attentive sevice this is the place for you.If you want an excellant hotel with a combination of hotel sunbathing and excursions, this is great. If you want 'quiet Spain' try a Paradore!
The Rui Ferrara offers exactly what it is sets out to do to( and does it very well!!) you have to decide that this is the right holiday for you?

Have just returned from the Riu Ferrera and it is well worth it's 4T rating. The hotel itself is excellent; spacious, spotlessly clean and with the best food I've ever come across. However the only problem is the entertainment (or lack of it!)- it is extemely poor and certainly not up to the standard of other 4 star hotels. We were there for 14 nights and only had 2 good nights - a fantastic magician and some Chinese acrobats. The rest of the time it was singers (well, that's what they were called - Simon Cowell would have had a field day!!) and dancers. One night the singer didn't turn up and we had extended Mini Disco! I know we were in Spain but flamenco 5 times is a bit much!! The daytime activities were a bit hit and miss too. The reps did announce some of them but I got the impression that they'd prefer it you didn't join in. It's a real shame that the entertainment was so poor otherwise I'd go back tomorrow.
As for the resort it was much busier than I expected although the beach could have been cleaner and the sea was very rough at times. I wouldn't say Costa Torrox was particularly Spanish just not suited to British tourists as they are definately in the minority.
