Resort was clean and in October still busy enough. Beach was super, clean, well serviced with cafes and sunbeds, only slight annoyance the Thai massage girls (and boys!), looky looky men no problem. Watersports purveyors not at all friendly or helpful and the banana boat ride was the least fun I've ever had. Resort ok for browsing and some cheap food and drink deals to be had, but the English bar owners we had contact with were rude and miserable, especially dont recommend the Black Bull unless you are going to pay to take part in his 3 different bingo games, made to feel like just drinking wasn't enough for him, went once and didn't go back.

Hilly, but the clean beach is worth the climb back up. A fantastic bus service from outside the front of the hotel runs along the coast from Cambrills to Tarragona. This area is covered by the cheap bus pass which work out at 85cents a journey. Salou has loads of shops and bars/restaurants...but is rather in your face and ideal for the shellsuit/Crocs brigade! Cambrills has a great marina, and some wonderful shops/bars. Tarragona is rather commercial, with little to offer holidaymakers. Cap Salou has a dozen or so bars/restaurants...my favourite is The Smugglers. Good service, and although limited menu choice, the food is good. Try the seafood salad!

Salou was actually much nicer than I expected. There are some lovely restaurants and shops all within walking distance of our hotel. The promenade is really beautiful and we enjoyed strolling along there in the evening after dinner.

Very nice beaches especially in Cap Salou, small cove beach, very safe for children. Hotel about 30 minutes walk from Salou, but only 10 minutes on bus, which is very cheap.

Only a few bars/restaurants in Cap Salou, but there was also a small fair which had sufficient rides etc to entertain our 3 year old for the evening.

This was our first visit to Portaventura on the 22/23 & 24 September 2009 whilst on a weeks holiday in Salou. Neither of us had been before, but we have frequently visited many theme parks both in Europe and Florida. Our expectations were mixed prior to going having read some of the less possitive reviews about this attraction. However, we were pleasantly surprised, because as soon as we entered the park we loved it from start to finish. The park is very well themed, from Mediterranean, Polynesia, China, Mexico to the Far West and each area has rides and attractions that are themed accordingly. The park opened at 10:00 - although China & Polynesia didn't open until 11:00.

Salou was OK, plenty of bars and restaurants. The beaches were alright, but far too busy. We saw adverts for day trips to Barcelona which would have been fun, but didn't have time to do one. Weather was lovely!

"a visit too far"

salou is a beautiful and lively resort and is very easy to learn how to get about in.it is also a great base to travel from as the bus and train service is first class to both reus, tarragona and barcelona which you can either do the the bus tour or make your own way there.there are two lovely little towns one either side of salou called cambrils and la pineda.cambrils is very spanish and still is a fishing village as well as a holiday resort mainly for french and spanish holiday makers as opposed to the brits, germans and dutch who visit salou.la pineda is a man made resort which has a wonderful beach which always seems to have a welcome breeze and is definitly worth a visit again not a lot of brits have discovered it yet but it wont be long until they do.salou itself is now full of the looky looky men and the shops are run by the asians and they pounce on you as you go into their shop which is a thing i absolutely detest as it makes me feel as if they think you are in to steal their goods.this was our seventh visit and i think that to be honest i have to say that we have done it and got the t shirt and to be honest i think it is time for a change having said all this i think it is time for a change from spain as the prices are much dearer and the pound is so poor against the euro that it is a lot more expensive than it once was which is a shame because a lot of bars, shops and eating places will go out of business before it improves.must mention a bar called christy mcgaths which is defintely worth a visit the staff are very friendly and entertaining and will certainly make you smile i am only sorry we found this place on what may be our last visit for some time.all in all i would recommend salou to anyone as there is lots for all types to see and do and i dont think one visit is enough to do it justice.

Out and about was very good. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in all directions from the hotel, all in 10 minutes walk. Beach and premenade is only about 10 minutes walk away. Beach looked crowded, but we prefer to use the hotel pools. The promenade is great. One way takes you to some terrific fountains and another shopping area which looked quite classy. The other way took you to more shops and bars. There is certainly plenty of places to walk to in the evening and wear your dinner off. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at the Dorada Palace and would thoroughly recommend it.

We did not particularly like Salou, as there seemed little to do besides sit on the beach (if you could find a free inch of sand) or drink. The people were nice enough though, and there are things to do further afield, like visit Tarragona or Barcelona.
