If it was not for the theme parks this place would be left to rot in its own 1980's juices ! Every shop sells the same tat - repli football kits, more repli football kits, african statues ? and repli football kits...... A very high percentage of the bars are typical theme places ie Irish or English places such as "rose and crown" "rovers return" etc etc . All the same promising the real English pub scenario, the reality is sitting on either plastic chairs or wooden picnic benches. All predictabley dull....... Touts collar you everywhere touting their particular horrible "pub" or "restaurant". They are a pain, and I have no use of them as I have a brain. I can therefore decide MYSELF where I would like to go. A top restaurant "la tagliatelli" is off the beaten track and needs no tout outside to lure you in. The food speaks for itself, and so does the full tables........ Lovely beach and promenade, but busy on weekends. Theme parks excellent - the reason we went. Would I go back to Salou ? Errrrr no thanks, theres far better places to visit on this planet.

Salou is very busy so there is always something to do. There's loads of bars, restaurants, shops etc. The only downside is battling with lots of people to walk around and the millions of people stood outside the bars trying to get you to go inside, but it's easy to just ignore them after a while! The resort seemed pretty expensive compared with other spanish resorts I have previously visited, but this may just be a sign of the times. Look out for the ice cream shops, or 'Geladaria', the ice cream is delicious and there are loads of unusual flavours! There are 3 little trains that go around the resort, each one takes a different route so make sure you get on the right one for where you want to go, or just do what we did and ride the entire journey, the price is the same no matter how far you go. It's great to walk around at nighttime as there are lots of huge fountains all along the front which light up all different colours and are fun to see. Some have bridges across that you can walk under the falling water. The only downside for me was the weather, half of the week was very cloudy and too cold to sit on the beach / by the pool (this was in early July). But it was ok as we visited Barcelona and the neighbouring resort of Cambrils and walked around a lot which we couldn't have done in the extreme heat so we got to see a lot more of Spain. It is definitely a resort that I would visit again.

Tarragona review
"Not a typical tourist resort"
resort to a friend
We picked this resort as it seemed close to the beach and within easy reach of Reus airport. There is apparently quite a lot of history attached to this town and area although we did not choose tarragona for these reasons. Quite traditional with numerous restaurants and plenty of ice cream parlours! The beach (platja miracles) is clean and sandy, but only toilet facilities are porta loos! Taxi from Reus airport to Tarragona cost 28 euros but we caught the bus back to the airport, which took the same amount of time (10 mins) for 3 euros each! A very good (and large) street market was on tuesday which seemed very reasonable price wise.

Salou is a perfect location for Portaventura. There is plenty to do during the day as you can visit the beaches/shops. Evening entertainment is also fantastic. Plenty of restaurants to choose from English/Traditional Spanish
I am booked to go back to Salou in October to the same hotel

Salou review
"Another Happy Holiday in Salou"
resort to a friend
This is our 2nd visit to Salou and we love it. The bustling resort is teeming with things to do from Catalan markets to beautiful beaches. Eating or drinking out is an excellent experience with many bars/rest to choose from. for the more adventurous local Theme Park is excellent.

My lasting impression of Salou is the high quality and cleanliness of the beaches. This being our first visit' Salou compared favourably with numerous other resorts we have visited previously. The locals and bar owners we talked with explained that they were all experiencing difficulties due to the global credit crunch and because of this the food and drink prices had subsequently been reduced. Local beer prices were 2 Euros for a pint and 1.60 Euros for a soft drink which was a pleasant surprise. Eating out was also very reasonable with many offers available as restaurant owners compete for your business. In our two weeks holiday we were never approached by time share sellers and were rarely hassled to eat and drink at certain bars and restaurants. I would recommend Dai Jenkins Bar and The Victoria for a very warm and friendly welcome.

Salou should not be advertised for families, the age group it is aimed at is the 18 -30 range. The smell from the bins on the main street is nauseating. The Beach is excellent, water quality could be a bit better but never expect much when i go to the med.

Salou review
"Another fab holiday at Golden Avenida"
resort to a friend
Salou itself needs a revamp, the main beach gets very crowded, but we tended to head to Capalans (I think that's what it's called) was smaller and less busy. We did have a fab day out in Barcelona, you can get the train from Salou station direct to Barcelona where you could go to the zoo/sea life, I think the return train tickets for 2 x adults and one child cost 26 euros under 4's are free. We didn't bother with the zoo as it was touching 35 degrees and the ever so helpful taxi driver in Barcelona said we were probably best avoiding it in the middle of the day as there is no shade.
