"june 2010"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a great hotel for families. The kids entertainment in the evening is repetitive but good. All the reps get the kids involved and they love it. The pool area is really nice and plenty of room and sunloungers. The rooms are very basic and not very comfortable. The maids are great but cleanliness was average. They sort of cleaned around things rather than under things!! The problem I had with this hotel was where our room was. All 2 bedroom apartments overlook the main road. The road isn't too bad until Saturday came around...then you need earplugs. Considering it's a hotel with young kids in, the noise is unbelievable. It's not the tourists it's the spanish. The hotel is at the traffic lights where all the traffic stops, and for some reason cars, people etc hang out and park outside the hotel. The windows are down in their cars with music on full blast, they are screaming and blowing horns...it's ridiculous!! This happened both Saturdays as we were there for 2 weeks and the reps and hotel staff do nothing!!! We asked to be moved and were told we would have to pay an extra £340!!! At 1 point a man parked his car at the lights...held up all the other cars for a good 15 minutes at 6am. They were all beeping at him and he was dancing in the middle of the road and around all their cars...I've never seen anything like it. I don't know what the pool view apartments were like. Probably much much quieter. The hotel is in a very good location and within walking distance of everything. The trips were expensive with the hotel, but we went on the local bus from outside the Red Lion and there's a girl there who will tell you what bus you need to catch, and she'll flag the bus down for you...that was helpful. Buses are dead cheap. Think it was 20 euro to go to Barcelona return...that's about an hour and a half drive. Salou is flat and easy to walk around, loads of food places and bars. The food in the hotel was really good, bit repetitive but they always made an effort to make it look nice. The hotel bar is great. Between 8pm and 9pm it's golden hour and all drinks on pump, wine, cocktail of the day, soft drinks and spirits are half price. It's 1 euro 20 for a pint of lager, 80 cents for a glass of wine and the same for a coke. But if you buy bottles of water or alcopops these are same price as always and not included. The hotel staff are really lovely and friendly and great with the kids. There is a laundry room there which was helpful. It was 4 euro for wash (can get loads in) and 3 euro for dryer. Didn't use the indoor pool as the smell of chlorine was overpowering and believe it or not, it was colder than the outdoor pool.

"Hotel:"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This hotel is in a great location, only 5 mins from shops and 10 mins from beach walking with 2 buggies/small children. Thats once you get out of the hotel as the lifts are very very small, so 2 adults and 2 buggies struggle to get in, and thats before you consider any luggage. The rooms were very clean, but slightly on the small side. Some of the fittings were showing their age, but any problems we reported to the hotel staff were swiftly dealt with. Said staff were excelent and helpful. If you go self catering bare in mind that you only get a microwave oven + hob. However the best feature of this hotel is easily the pools and leisure facilities for the kids, loads for them to do. The worst aspect were the dreadful Thomson reps who on more than one occasion tried to rip us off by over-charging and their local knowledge was non-excistent. We also came across some "attitudes", so avoid like the plague.

"We'll be back!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel looked very impressive from the outside when dropped off, and it did not disappoint. The location is great, main resort is just a 5min walk from the hotel and there are various bars/restaurants around the hotel. The Reception staff are very helpful, as are the rest of the hotel staff. The rooms are nice and are cleaned every day with clean towels provided each day. The Reps don't push their trips on you at the welcome meeting, they let you chose if you want to go yourself. We went on a trip to Nou Camp & Barcelona Zoo, which I would highly recommend. We were H/B - the breakfast was the same each day i.e. cooked breakfast, continental etc and was nice but basic; dinner was different each night and varied from paella to roast beef etc and was very nice, although we did eat out a couple of nights for a bit of a change. The dining room staff are really helpful and quick to clear the tables & your plates, there are also highchairs available for infants. The pools are very clean (although cold when we were there) and there are plenty of loungers to go around, there's also an indoor pool which is small but nice. The bar staff are really nice, they bring your drinks over in the evening when it's really busy to save you weaving through the kids. There is always a Rep in the Reception area and they are great for advice on the best places to eat, drink or visit. The Reps are great fun and get everyone involved. Entertainment is provided day & night, with plenty for kids & adults. There is a Kids Club but our daughter was too young as it starts at 3 years old. There is a kids disco from 8-9pm, then bingo & each night there is a different main event i.e. disco, magician, karaoke, singer etc. We would definitely come back to Salou and the Golden Avenida.

"Hotel decent, bar prices extortionate"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel was old but reasonably comfortable, about what you wouold expect for the very reasonable price. However they did seem to be trying to make up for this by charging an arm and a leg for drinks etc. We asked for a local vodka and lemonade and were told they only had Smirnoff at 4.90 euros(£4.50) and it was an optic measure. Considering you can buy a bottle for around 10 euros they are probably making around 80 euros per bottle. They also charge 2 euros a day for sunbed mats. The entertainment was pretty pathetic i.e. kids disco, bingo, silly game and during our week, a very poor magician and some acrobats but mostly a disco or karaoke. That said, the food was edible and varied in the evenings (we were on H/B) but the breakfast was the same every day and was not that great. The coffee was mainly chicory and the sausages although supposedly English would not have set off any meat alarms. Be warned, even though we went in school term, there were a lot of kids about and they seemed to be having a wonderful time. If you would rather not have kids running around, don't go here! If, as we did, you go for a cheap and cheerful break, you will not be that disappointed. We did find a little bar round the corner from the hotel called the Funkey Monkey which was good value and run by really nice people. All in all, we would probably go back (not high season), if we got a good deal.

"Good hotel/Fun holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We were looking for a cheap and cheerful holiday and we got it! We are a family of two adults and a 2 1/2 year old - so she needed to keep busy. The hotel was lovely, staff very friendly. Rooms were clean and basic - had kitchenette with micro wave, toaster,Fridge, hob and kettle. Plenty of Storage too. The entertainment was amatuer but still fun the staff made so much effort, always plenty of reps about to dance with the children etc. We went Half board the food in hotel was surprisingly good, lots of choice, fresh and cooked well:) which is just as well as if you go out into Salou it can be quite expensive to eat out as a family. We were lucky enough to have a room with a view of the pool which was great - you could hear all of the entertainment from our room - but it wasn't too much. It didn't stop our daughter or us from sleeping. Would definalty go back!

""FAB HOLIDAY""
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel is lovely, basic but as far as i'm concerned it has everything in your room that you need and is kept really clean. Maids are in every day cleaning and putting in fresh towels. First day i made the beds not realising that the maids do it for you so was happy as hate making up beds! The staff are friendly especially Ana who works in the restaraunt. It was our daughters birthday while we were there so they got a big chocolate cake for her with candles, she was well chuffed. Plenty of entertainment through the day for the kids & kids club is good. Portaventura is a must, taxi up was about 7 euros and we walked back as wsa all down hill. If you want a sun lounger get up early as they all run around like wild animals once the doors are open at 9am to get there towels down. We used to watch from our balcony and found it highly entertaining first thing in the morning. Would defo go back to this hotel 100%

"Another fantastic holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We love this hotel. This was our second year running at the hotel and once again we were given a warm welcome by the staff at reception. In addition, we paid on arrival to be upgraded to half board - the food is absolutely fantastic (plenty of choice for everyone) and Ana the Restaurant Manager is lovely. The maids serviced our room each day and were always very friendly. David (one of the entertainment staff) is sooo funny, everyone loves him and the Thomson reps were great with the kids.
We had a great time and will hopefully go back next year,
Salou itself needs a revamp, the main beach gets very crowded, but we tended to head to Capalans (I think that's what it's called) was smaller and less busy. We did have a fab day out in Barcelona, you can get the train from Salou station direct to Barcelona where you could go to the zoo/sea life, I think the return train tickets for 2 x adults and one child cost 26 euros under 4's are free. We didn't bother with the zoo as it was touching 35 degrees and the ever so helpful taxi driver in Barcelona said we were probably best avoiding it in the middle of the day as there is no shade.
Thank you to all at the Golden Avenida, we will see you again next year!

"Fantastic Golden Avenida"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Our family enjoyed a fab holiday at this hotel. The food is of a very high standard and varies each day. The rooms are cleaned daily. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. David is a star entertainer, he should be on TV. The Thomson Kids Club reps were fab with our 9 year old. The pool area is beautifully kept. Our only gripe would have to be the price of drinks at the bar.

"great stay"
Overall Hotel Rating:
great stay loved the size of the apartments and the location. This Hotel is within walking distance to the Beach town centre and a short bus ride from Port Aventura. The Staff were welcoming and the rooms cleaned with fresh towels every day. There was plenty of entertainment and a great Kids club. I did book this Hotel as it was reviewed on another site as suitable for families with teens. This really was not the case. Our neighbours complained about the noise and we were extremely quiet. A small mp3 player with a broken speaker was the only music from our apartment and this did not wake our 10 year old in the same room. It may have just been the neighbours as but if My teenage Son had brought his cd player there may have been problems.

"Great Family Break"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a 2 week break at the Avenida Park with my husband and 3 young children (4, 2 and 5 months). We had a very enjoyable holiday at this hotel. The rooms were fairly basic but had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, helpful and effecient. They made you feel very welcome and were particularly nice to the children. The food was much better than I expected from a 3 star hotel. There was a wide variety of choice at breakfast and dinner. There was a seperate food bar especially for the children with all the usual things kids like to eat (pizza, sausages, chicken nuggets, fish etc) You will not go hungry at this hotel!! Perhaps the thing we liked best about the hotel was the entertainment for kids. Although our kids did not attend the kids clubs, they did go to the mini disco every night in the bar. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves every night. The kids reps did a fantastic job as did the hotel's entertainer. The high light of every evening was meeting Thomson the Dog. There was bingo every night following the mini disco and then a live show at atound 10ish. Unfortunately we didn't see any of these as it was too late for the little ones but there certainly seemed to be a wide variety of acts performing. I would go back to this hotel again and would highly recommend it to other families with young children.

"EXCELLENT"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I have just returned from a weeks break with my husband and two daughters, aged 4 and 7 months. I cannot praise this accommodation or the reps enough. The accommodation provided everything we required, great that we had a fridge and a microwave with a small baby to feed. Food was excellent, such a varied choice and selection of hot and cold food every night and was an excellent way of encouraging my daughter to try different foods. The rooms were cleaned every day and a change of towel could be given daily if required. The family club was great, plenty for kids to do in a safe and clean environment. The only negative I would say were the pool was extremely cold but as least my baby could take a dip in the indoor pool. In summary could not praise this hotel enough and definately hope to return.
