We booked this Hotel July 2010 and after reading all the reviews I was going to cancel and go somewhere else. We took our 5 year old grandson and he loved it. Hotel is a way out of Salou but when we did go into Salou we were glad to come back, it was very hectic. There is a small beach but our grandson loved the pool that much he would'nt go anywhere else. Food was good and everyone says it is cold but we found it really nice and choice for everyone. We are going to have to pay a lot more this year to get a Hotel that matches the Cala Font. I think the people that do enjoy the holiday like we did probably like us never bothered to write a review so thats why I have.

Have just arrived back from a week at the Cala Font Hotel it must be the worst hotel we have ever been to. The food was terrible always cold the same 3 choices every night, daily fighting for sunbeds with people almost coming to blows, also the area was so hilly which we were not informed about on booking the holiday all in all a big disappointment especially as I booked as a special treat to my daughter.

Rooms are very basic. Comes with a tv with only 2 english speaking channels (CNN & BBC news), no remote control, only one plug socket in room which is low down (for tv) and hard to reach. No kettle or hairdryer in room. Uncomfortable, hard beds with only one flat pillow each. Air conditioning was tepid at best. On the good side rooms were cleaned every day and there was no shortage of fresh towels. Hotel provided good quality cot for our baby.

Wouldn't recommend this hotel for families with babies tho, baby changing facilities in ladies loo in lobby area are bad. Fold down table is much too high, after a minute the light will go out and your left with a naked baby in the dark, high up! Light won't come back on until you walk 6 meters over to entrance, crazy arrangement! The location of this hotel is on a very steep hill, it may be a short walk down to the beach but its a killer pushing buggy back up the hill. If you want to catch a bus you have to walk even further up hill and round the corner.

Only two lifts to go up to rooms which were very small and not adequte for a hotel of this size. Theres one more lift which goes down, this is for the bar and restarant.

Food was pretty good, at first we weren't impressed but thing improved as the week went on. Self serve buffet which was constantly being replenished, never seemed to be any shortage. Plenty of meats, fish, salads, chips and desserts. Breakfast was the same every day bacon, eggs, beans and toast and a selection of continental pastries.

Staff are very good, reception were very helpful and spoke good English. Entertainment not so good. Kids mini disco much too late, on about 9.30pm and was mostly in Spanish. Nothing really well organised, no shows/bingo/comedy... they just made it up as they went along! Bar staff are generally rude and spend much of there time letching at women... TIP - make the effort to go to bar for your own drink, waiter service expects constant tips.

Inside hotel there is a little shop with a lovely man who will make you feel welcome and his prices are reasonable for last minute souvenirs. TIP - Buy Maltesers from him for 85 cents and not from the vending machines inside hotel which were charging double.

All in all the hotel could do with renovation, bit old fashioned. We emailed the hotel in advance to ask for a sea view and we got one. Most rooms do have a good view anyway.

Just back from the Cala font Hotel. Hotel was excellent very clean and pleasant. The area seems favoured by the Spanish which gave it a really authentic feel. The kids club is in house which is ok, Staff really nice but my 9 year old was a little bored. The pool area is really good with a lifegaurd on duty all the time. Our room was pretty good and was air conditioned which really helped. The hotel is really good if you have mobility problems as there are loads of lifts to all levels, although it is quite a hill up to the main road so beware. The food was fantastic throughout our stay. I did hear brits complain, I'm afraid there are people who still expect to get pie and beans everywhere they go. Loads of fresh fruit, salads and seafood which was so good. Loads of chicken pork and beef too so don't worry. We loved La pineda for the seafood and the local bus service is reliable and pretty cheap.

Nice clean hotel and pool area. Rooms Very tight for space though (we had 2 adults & 2 kids ). Dissapointed with kids club/entertainment as not much enthusiasim shown. Hotel great location for beach but costing around 16 euros a time to get us all into town and back. Last woe....drinks and snacks were very expensive in hotel but small supermarkets nearby and a few Happy Hour pubs! All this said we had a great holiday here (if expensive!) and thought it was the nicest hotel around !

My wife and I have just arrived home after 2 weeks in Cap Salou and to be honest i,m glad to home. We,ve been to Cap Salou before three years ago and it has really changed. This place has got so built up.

The Cala Font Hotel was a nice place to stay we were half board the rooms were good we had a high floor and a great sea view of Salou but the food was not for the ordinary mans taste. Squid rings and octopus was some of the delights on the menu, my wife has been put of chicken for life, fish seems to be a must on the menu Breafast was bacon, saus, fried egg one morn and scrambled the next (scrambled egg was a funny orange colour and tasted of fish) after a few days we ate out. Great places for this was The Tap Room in cap salou which is beside the amusments (the people who own it are from N Ireland) and the food all home based, another is Big Bens or the Paddock(as long as you don,t want to change something on the menu or move your seat) also try the chippy in salou town.

We never got a sun lounger for the whole 2 wks we were there you have to be up at 6 in the morning to put your towel on a seat to get your spot and then queue for the sun longers to be unchained at 10. We used the small beach cove just beside us and it was great 4 euros for a sun lounger and it didn,t matter what time you got there at.
It pays to shop around for gifts as prices vary from shop to shop(good friendly gift shop in cala font hotel its self and not badly priced) If your self catering go to the supermarket up passed the sun club first avenue on the left its the cheapest

Port Adventura is getting bigger although the fireworks have been cut back a bit since the last time we were here.
There was a festival while we stayed here and on the 15th there was a fireworks display on the beach front in salou it was fantastic.

La Pinada is a good place to visit and Cambrill is a must If your intrested in fishing

Salou is maybe a good place but wouldn,t recomend it for couples on there own you need to go in a group

We have just arrived home from our 2 week stay at calafont.

The hotel is very clean and tidy, all the staff are friendly and very helpfull.we found that the food in the dinning room to be very poor standard, and they don't really cater for the british holidaymaker speaically kids.We decided to eat out a few times and found some lovely places in the area (route 66,smugglers inn and also rosies return which is in salou) all great value for money.

The night time entertainment at the hotel was good the kids loved it,and they have a happy hour every night 11-12pm.Some great places to go whilst your there are La pineda(Aquapolis water park),Terragona (shopping mall and roman remains) and Cambrills (old fishing port). The local bus service is great and run approximately every 15mins they don't do half price fares for kids. The fares on the buses also goes up of a weekend.

The weather for the time of year was fantastic very sunny and hot(late 20's early 30's).The beach was very clean and tidy too,but can get very busy at weekends as its not very big.

We had a Great Time,Kids didn't want to come home. Would go again.

The hotel is spotlessly clean with the staff on the go all day.
My wife and I enjoy foreign food so we had no problems at all with the buffet which had lots of choice and featured a spciality each day. e.g. whole baked salmon or freshly grilled steak. The hotel caters for many different nationalities. While we were there we noticed a lot of Russians and French so the catering staff obviously need to appeal to a broad spectrum of tastes and not just xenephobic little Englanders wanting chips for breakfast (honest!).
Access to neighbouring resorts is easy as a quick and reliable bus service covers this part of the coast from Cambrils to Tarragona.
La Pineda and Tarragona are both worth a visit. One for its lovely beach and the other for its fine medieval centre.
A good budget holiday for £300 for a week with food in.

We've been to this hotel for the third time, and this year left a bad taste in our mouth. Their standards dropped in every department, be it food or how rooms are cleaned.

Beware room safe rentals, we know a lady who had her earrings stolen from there. We also lost some euro notes stored in our safebox.

The personnel but the ladies at the reception were never too friendly, but now they don't even try to hide how they don't like you, especially those working in the restaurant. They seem to give for dinner what is left over from the lunch and so on.

The maid dropped our toothbrushes and several times ";forgot"; to empty the bin. She often turns her back on you when you go down the corridor, it seems she doesn't want to say Hola to you.

The hotel is half empty, and thus happily accomodates hords of kids staying overnight, wrecking havoc and pushing in the dining room.

There were dogs poopoo on the way to the beach.

Beware queueing in Port Aventura, a cell phone was stolen from my wife's bag. Also at the weekends there are lots of spanish kids there, yelling and chanting like mad while queueing.

Though we have enjoyed our holidays, it had nothing to do with the hotel, and we definitely are not going to return to Calafont.

Arriving at the hotel around 11.30am I was pleased to find our room was ready. I had emailed the hotel the week before asking for a sea or pool view, which we had been given.
The room was clean and the cleaners came everyday to clean the room and change the towels.
I found the hotel to be your average 3* Spanish hotel. Nothing amazing but nothing worse than anywhere else. Yes the walls are thin and the beds are a bit hard - but having been to most resorts in Spain I've found this the same in every 3* hotel.

The downside to the hotel for us was the food. The restaurant itself is clean and the prices for drinks are reasonable at around 7 euros for a bottle of wine and 1.5 for a large bottle of water.
There is alot of food to choose from - again your usual spanish buffet, salads, pasta, meat, veg, soup and breads. However none of it we found to be particularly tasty. The fish was full of bones and the pasta was soggy. They do have a separate section (i think its meant for kids) with chips, beans, nuggets and sausages - so there is always something that you can eat. It just wasnt really to our taste.
We only ate there 3 nights on our week stay. Its pretty cheap to eat out in cap salou and salou anyway.

The hotel is about a 20 minute walk into the main resort of Salou. Its a nice walk along the beach front, but if you cant face walking there is a really good bus service which is about 1.75 euro each way.

Overall a nice hotel, but if you are a fussy eater, probably best to take extra money and eat out.

We just arrived home from our 5 day get away at Cala Font. If you don't like cold bacon, stale croissants, moldy cheese, green hard boiled eggs and waiting in line for 10 minutes for a piece of toast which you just put in the toaster with tongs that have hair on them, then this hotel isn't for you. Not to mention if you have children that need to sit in high chairs, be prepared to bring your own dissinfectant to clean the chairs as they are never cleaned properly.

Also you must like sleeping on rock hard beds which by the way are two singles pushed together which might work for you but wasn't too plesant for my husband and I who are newlywed.

The walls ARE paper thin. I read other reviews and thought, how bad can they be? They really are paper thin. To each side of you and on top. Watch out for a sleepless night if someone above you decides to wear heels and prance around their room in circles all night.

You must like confined spaces. The elevators leave much to be desired. Picture yourself in a shoebox... that is one of the cala font elevators, which by the way close on you every chance they get, I am starting to see bruises on my arms where the elevators got me. No joke, those elevators are not fit for anyone in more of a party of one.
The beach is full of cigarette butts and dog pee, oh yes, did I forget to mention that dogs are allowed to stay in this hotel?? Not very child friendly if you ask me...
The hotel IS on an incline which ISN'T very accesible for people pushing babies in strollers.. be prepared for a work out.

All I have left to warn you about is the dinner buffet at this hotel. It is worse than breakfast. The concierge was very short with us and left us feeling like we were beggars at our own buffet after asking a few simple questions..But the food was just gross. Plain and simple. Gross. If you don't like microwaving your fish, chicken, pork, or whatever it was I don't know because they don't lable it so it is your own best guess, than you will not enjoy yourself at this hotel. If you want fresh food with a nice variety, with helpful staff that make you feel welcome in a hotel on an even plane with a beach free of litter than I suggest you go somewhere else.

The only redeeming thing about this hotel was the views, they are beautiful, but after waking up from a sleepless night from a hard bed and noisy neighbours, looking forward to a cold breakfast it just doesn't seem worth it.

we have just returned from a weeks stay at the cala font hotel

we found the hotel to be excellent nice and clean and the staff friendly as for the dining room in the hotel we found the food to be of very poor standard and that they didnt cater for the british holidaymaker at all and the food was always look warm we had booked for half board but after 3 nights just couldnt eat it anymore so for the rest of our stay we ate out at night the entertainment was terrible again catering for spanish more than english and the bar prices were not cheap there was supposte to be a happy hour on every night from 11 until 12 but not once did we get any 2 for one price so we drank outside where there was always a happy hour on for a couple of hours salou was only 10 mins away on the bus but for a family of 4 adults and 2 children it cost 14 pounds there and back as they do not have half price fares for children

you could have walked into salou if you wished which would take at least an hour la pineda was very nice and had a lovely beach which the kids throughly enjoyed and there acropolis water park was very good with photos being 5 euros each until you got your photo taken with a sealion when the price suddenly doubled and were 10 euros each the small supermarket across the street from the hotel was the dearest i have ever seen the gift shop in the hotel was great the man who runs it was the nicest person you could meet and his prices were excellent overall i was not impressed by salou at all and found it to be expensive over rated and the people very rude

this was our first visit to salou and suffice to say we will not be returning

My wife and i have just returned from the Cala Font, and we found it a spotlessly clean hotel with helpful and friendly staff.I e-mailed them a week earlier asking for a sea view room which they reserved for us and had good views of the sea and pool.

The food in the hotel was a BIG letdown it was cold, unappetising and very bland especially at evening Dinner, the breakfast was the only saving grace.(just)For the time of year the weather was warm and sunny apart from some cloudy intervals and a thunderstorm one evening. As its the end of the season Cap Salou was quiet and boring luckily there is a good bus service to Salou itself, also the bus service to places like La Pineda,Terragona ,and Cambrils are excellent.Plana the bus company do an excellent outing to Barcelona to visit the Nou Camp stadium and free time in the city itself for 25 euros, much cheaper than the reps tours. The beach area is a small cove although its ok i've seen nicer in Ibiza, overall we've seen it , done it and definately wont be going back.

Nice hotel, quite large and clean and a good location right on one of the small beaches at Cap Salou. It is basic but 'good basic' if you know what I mean.

Even when arriving on a package holiday you can't necessarily check in on arrival. If you arrive in the morning you are sent away and asked to return after 12:00 as the rooms aren't ready - we have never had this on a package holiday before. Thankfully we had a car so were able to go for a little drive and return later.

Plenty of food, well cooked and a large choice. The selection sometimes a little strange (quite often in fact) but hey it is Spain. My wife is vegetarian and I love meat - we both enjoyed the food. There was always a childrens option too with chips, fish fingers and beans or something like that and the biggest selection of deserts we have had in Spain. One of the few places in Spain to have proper pork sausages for breakfast and bacon without bones - we really didnt understand some of the bad comments on this website regarding the food. If you can't eat here then you REALLY are fussy.

Waiter service was virtually non-existent around the hotel and even in the restaurant you have to buy your drinks from a small bar (never had this before in Spain). Also no dishes or cutlery were removed from your table until you left the restaurant which was a bit awkward on smaller tables. We also regularly saw seemingly un-used cutlery from mucky tables being used to set other tables which is not good really but depends if you're bothered.

The hotel has a small car park at the top of the road which is good if you have a car, but it is awkward to park outside the hotel on arrival (i.e. to pick up your card to get into the car park).

This is the only hotel where we have ever been kept awake by noise at night (every night). Unfortunately this was down to other hotel guests (sadly mostly British) and not road / resort noise so perhaps we just had bad company that week.

We have stayed in far better hotels with same or lower star-ratings. Overall good but basic compared to others. I think it probablly gets it's star rating from the location only. Otherwise its a 2-star in my book.

It was a cheap holiday and was fine for the money. We wouldn't go back here and think it was over-rated on trip advisor but perhaps we've been spoilt by better hotels for similar prices.
