"Great apartments in a lovely resort"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

Went with my fiancé and we had a fabulous relaxing break in the sun! The apartments are well located on the beach, and with a large, well-maintained freshwater beach overlooking the sands. We never had a problem getting a sunbed, but we did get out and explore our surroundings and went on a couple of organized excursions so we weren't sat round the pool all day. Great apartments - clean, spacious, bright and airy...all we needed for a comfortable stay. We went for the BB option and were not disappointed, with quality food available every morning.

You'll find yourself a short walk from the shops, bars and restaurants of the resort centre - I have stayed in the resort before and more has sprung up since the last time we went, its definitely a better choice than Corralejo!

Hotel overall was ok. Location great. Food usual buffet type, nothing really spectacular, EXCEPT the pancakes for breakfast!, sometimes a bit on the cool side, but much the same as many other hotels. But BEWARE do not assume that the 3 choices of appartment on the barcelo.com website relate to the 3 choices on direct holidays/thomas cook websites! Thomas cook only put their customers into the basic accomadation . These are basic, smelly, no air con, really need to be updated. To get the superior appartment you have to pay supplement direct to hotel. The 2000 block are wonderful and once we were sorted (thanks to Ella) holiday really was great. The enertainment was very poor, in our opinion, would suit club18-30 maybe! The shows bought in were better but you do tire of people getting themselves into unatural posions! The singing groups were good though. The bar El perlita was much more to our taste and we spent many evenings watching the world go by (Still part of All inc) sitting by the beach, WONDERFUL. I was also suprised how cool it became in the evenings, because of the wind, I used my only cardigan on 12 out of 14 evenings! We went on "COOL RUNNINGS" trike tour which was very good.OVERALL a good relaxing holiday.

we stayed 28march09 for 1wk and upgraded to a superior bungalow room 3105 actually what a room with a view u look out onto the swimming which in turn looks out to sea great step out of your bungalow onto your terrace and down on to the pool the hotel and the whole resort is spotless. the weather was not quite so good though 3 1/2 days of sunshine in the week got a good tan though. all inclusive is available though we stayed self catering we did find the cost of eating out and buying goods fairly expensive though. overall though we had a good stay would recomend this complex based on the upgrade.

Having read the reviews on this hotel we were very dubious when we were travelling there. These doubts were virtually unnecessary. The complex is a big complex and made up of lots of suites, bungalows and apartments. We were located in 3001 which is up by the Barcelo Hotel. When we went out onto one of our two balconies we were a bit concerned to find we were located next to the hotel laundry. This was never a problem even though the staff started work at 8am we were never disturbed by noise. The apartment was clean and comfortable and had plenty of room for what we needed. Downsides if I have to be picky were the seal on the bottom of the shower screen was missing and the bathroom flooded without the aid of towels under the screen, no bath which was a bit hard work with a 7 month old baby but nothing a cheap little paddling pool couldn't solve and the sun never reached the veranda but it did next door. The maids were in every day during our weeks stay bar two and we had clean towels on every visit which I have found to be a rareity and not a common practise. The dining room is large and spacious and very clean. All the staff were really friendly. The food can be a bit repetative and when people leave a mess I.E dropping food it is left and not tidied up. On the whole it was edible but could be cold and not replaced towards end of dining room times. The pools were clean and there were plenty of sunbeds around. Make note that the little pool with the Jacuzzi at the back of the snack bar is the heated one. We only found out that on our last day and the other pools are freezing cold. During our stay we encountered one cockroach who was minding his own business but soon got pushed back out of the front door and never reappeared. The layout of the complex would be highly recommended for young families with pushchairs and special needs guests needing wheelchair access. All steps have ramps at the side of them and no part of the complex is unaccessible which made a change. The entertainment does leave a bit to be desired but you are on holiday what do you expect other than cheesey entertainment. It usually consisted of mini disco for half an hour at about 8 then certificate presentation and then a show. The ABBA night is fantastic. Grease rendition is funny but miming not quite in sync We did notice some ill guests but we werent effected We would recommend this complex to anyone, take the reviews with a pinch of salt and make up your own mi

First time to this island and was very excited by the review given by voyager tours. The hotel/apartement was very clean, 6 pools available, eating/drinking facilities available on site and servive by hotel staff was excellent. The location was very good and pieceful and views were stunning!!!!!

Even thougth we had a good time on our holiday I feel it's important to let people who are thinking of visiting the island that its not SAFE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ESPECIALLY GIRLS AGE 16-25 AS THERE ARE GROUPS OF YOUNG MALES TARGETING ANY BRITISH FEMALES!!!! AS WE EXPERIENCED A FRIGHTENING INCIDENT WHICH WE HAVE REPORTED!!!!!

The accomodation is set out well spaced in small streets of villas. We stayed in the 1000 block, which was a detached one bedroomed bungalow. It faced the road with a small terrace at the front, so was not very private, although the road was not busy. The rooms were clean and adequately equipped. The miad service was five times a weeek and we got clean towels each time for leaving our firty ones in the bathtub.

We saw a few cockroaches on the road at night but nothing to be too worried about, we lept the doors and windows locked at night so we didnt get any inside! Unfortunately this meant that the bungalow was incredibly hot at night as there was no a/c, which made it difficult to sleep.

The hotel is well placed for the beach and the town, and there are four pools. the main pool where the castle is is also right next to the main bar and stage were the entertainment is. This pool was the busiet and seemed to be were most of the british guests stayed. We preferred to go to the pool furthest away from this area further around from the beach. this pool was very quiet with plebnty of free sunbeds at any time of the day, and seemed to be more popular with the spanish guests. this pool was also freshwater whilst the other pools are saltwater.
The beach is nice although very rocky, we bought swim shoes for 12euros as it hurt your feet to walk out to sea. If you walk right down the beach you can walk across a rough path to another beach which is nicer and has no rocks on it. This beach is near the Atlantic shopping centre which has the Spar supermarket which is far cheaper than netto.

We ate out every night and found all the restaurants good, with the exception of the LA Paella restuarant at the hotel, which has a great setting overlloking the beach but the food was a let down. The town is not that exciting but has enough places to eat if you're there for a week. The harbour is good if you're into watersports there is loads to occupy you there.

Trips out were expensive either throught the tour place in the town or through the reps at the hotel. We went on the day trip to Lanzarote which was 36euros each. the boat trip was really rough on the way over and the tour guide was handing out lots of bin bags for people to be sick in! The trip was ok if you want to get some bargains in Zara and the other clothes shops in the main shopping centre, as there is nothing similar in Caleta.

This holiday is suitable for families and those who want somewhere quiet, it is not really good for those lookign for lively entertainment or day trips out.

This was our sixth visit to Caleta de Fuste. Previous visits have found us at the Castillo Beach Park, the Elba Sara Hotel, but predominantly the Barcelo Fuerteventura Hotel.

We felt the need for a bit more space (and a cheaper price) and so plumped for the Barcelo Club this year. We weren't disappointed.

We had read mixed opinions about the Barcelo Club online in the months before our stay and due to this we contacted them by e-mail beforehand to ask if we could have a quiet room, preferably first floor, in block 3000. Block 3000 is the one nearest the Barcelo Hotel.
We were e-mailed back, promptly, to say that this would be no problem, but at an extra cost of 12 euros per night. We agreed to this as we knew the rooms had been recently refurbished and had air con.

On arrival (noon) our room was ready but was one heck of a hike from reception and the main plaza with all the amenities. This is one big complex! Reception did warn us that block 3000 was usually taken by an Italian tour company and so there would be a lack of Brits about. We took our chances and were really pleased with our room. Nicely decorated, well furnished, clean and tidy and with everything you would need for a self catering holiday. We had chosen to go half board, but there was the option at any time to upgrade further to all inclusive for a further 15 euros each. We decided not to do this as we like to get out and about during the evenings and don't want to be stuck to the complex.

As I said our room was fine. Maid service was 5 times a week, but whilst they were ok, they could have been a bit more thorough perhaps. For instance, our balcony wasn't swept or mopped once in 14 days, and they didn't seem to bother much with cleaning the bathroom. We're not dirty, messy people though and generally we had no complaints. Despite being on the first floor we had visits from 3 cockroaches during the fortnight, but hey, it's a volcanic island, it's where they live! A quick blast from the complimentary spray under the sink soon sorted them out.

So, what was it like being in amongst the hoards of Italians? Well, round the pool it was difficult to find any peace and quiet. They do tend to talk a lot! Most sunbeds had been reserved by 9.30 also. The complex has 3 pools in total, so we just headed off to the one in the middle, behind the La Perlita bar, and never had any problems with sunbeds or peace and quiet. The other large pool, near reception/la plaza did seem to be very busy and noisy too, this time mostly from the British/Irish/German guests. We had Italian neighbours next door, but they were generally quiet and observed the no noise after midnight rules.

As I said earlier we were half board. The restaurant was fine. No problem finding a table or with the service from the staff. The food was typical buffet restaurant fayre. Plenty of choice, but after a week or so one did feel it got a bit repetitive.

The complex itself is well maintained, and all staff are friendly and helpful. We had no complaints whatsoever.

Caleta

Caleta itself changes from year to year. Some things good, some not so. There's an increase in graffiti, especially along the seafront, which is a bit offputting. A missing manhole cover on the promenade remained un-repaired after two weeks, but then this is Spain - manana and all that.

I'd read somewhere on the internet that the main beach was due a facelift, including toilets, new sand and a kids play area. This would certainly be welcome. Whilst the beach is ok, it does suffer in comparison with others on the island as it is manmade.

The Saturday market is worth a visit. Always remember to haggle. I got a nice, but obviously fake, Omega watch for 11 euros. The guy wanted 30, but I stood my ground. One week later it's still working - LOL.

A few bars to mention:

El Capitan, opposite the front of the Barcelo Hotel. Happy hour 8.30 - 10.30pm. Two large beers for 2.40 euros!

Pieros - good, clean family entertainment.

The Beer Garden - great location opposite Pieros. Excellent hot chocolate for the kids!

Restaurant. El Camorote at the harbour. Had a lovely meal on our last night. Fabulous views, reasonably priced, and good food.

Barcelo Hotel. Anyone can wander in, enjoy the shows and have a drink in the evening. Well worth a visit. The in-house shows were much better this year than last.

Other good points were the new businesses springing up beneath the Geranios Suites. A new supermarket, bike hire, two shops and also a great Beach Café, which has fabulous views across the bay towards the harbour - just wonderful during the evening and just what Caleta has been missing. Also, just next door we must give a plug to JD's Family Bingo, being run by a lovely British guy trying to do something a bit different. We popped in a couple of evenings and spent a few euros to give him some support. I know bingo is perhaps something a bit different for Fuerteventura, but it was a bit of fun for half an hour!
Finally, the new beaches opposite the new Sheraton Hotel/Atlantico Centre are great and worth a visit.

The Island itself

We hired a car for 3 days. Drove down to Costa Calma and spent a day on the beach there. Fabulous. A few kilometres further on at Pasco del Risco (I think) the beach is even better, but there are less facilities.

Paid a visit to Correlejo, and the new Baku Water Park. It was enjoyable, but pricey. Having paid 20 euros or so to get in, I thought it was a bit of a cheek to charge a further 3 euros for a sunbed, but whatever, it's worth a visit and the kids will enjoy it.

Overall, a great holiday. Can't wait for summer 2008.

This was our first visit to Fuerteventura and didnt really know what to expect but were plesasntly surprised. The weather was brilliant, didnt see any rain just an over cast morning or two which cleared up by lunch time. Wind wise, there is a constant breeze which makes makes the heat bearable. Deffinatly not a complaint!

Transfer to the resort of Caleta de Fuste from the airport was as little as 10 minutes which was really convenient. The Barcelo apartment complex is situated in a horse shoe shape around the bay with the Barcelo hotel situated next to it. The facilities in the hotel can also be used if you are staying in the apartment complex.

The apartments are split into 3 blocks (1000 block, 2000 and then 3000). We were situated in the 2000 block and the location was brilliant. All the apartments are more like bungalows rather than a block of appartments as the majority are single storey with terraces or patios. Our apartment was literally on the beech! Totally faultless location wise. The patio area outside had a coule of sunloungers and a patio set so you could sunbathe on the terrace! The apartment itself could probably have done with a lick of paint but space wise, it was actually quite spacious. It did however, appear as if other apartments had already been renewed and they were working their way around the complex. It was a 1 bedroomed apartment so 1 member of our party slept on the pull out bed in the living area which wasn't a problem but, be warned. bacame like a sauna in the middle of the night as the cealing fan was situated in the bedroom!Coking facilites, again these were fine but we didn't really use these as we ate out for the majority of our meals around the resort.

The Barcelo complex itself was great, 3 swimming pools, play areas, mini market, family bars and various restaurants. It was possible to upgrade to half/full board on arrival but there were that many restaurants around the resort that it wasnt necessary. The complex itself was very family orientated. Every night there was entertainment or an act on all based around a central square where a stage is situated.

Reviews of Caleta de Fuste had previously said the resort was quiet. To us the whole resort seemed very famly orientated and had tonnes to do. We were a little bit worried about this before our visit as we didint want visit somewhere with nothing going! This deffinatly wasnt the case! It wasnt at all rough, plenty to do, lots of little boutiques and shops, snack bars, bars and certainly not a shortage of restaurants!

We ate at some great places, there really was such a wide choice. The best were Tony Roma's(food wasnt too pricey here and value for money was brill!) Mambos Steak House(the staff here were really friendly and food was always great), Caleta Steak House(the service was fab here, a little more on the pricey side but again the food was great). There were so many to try the only one we had a fault with was Paprika Snake Bar. I ordered a cheese salad and at 8 euros you expect something pretty decent. It was litarally a tomato cut into 8 slices with cheese sprinkled on top! Pricey tomato!

Bar wise, the resort had something for everyone. The majority of people tend to head to Pieros, an entertainment bar with an act on each night but there were so many family bars to try that i'd suggest you venture to some of the others. A couple to mention, Sean Og's Irish bar(live irish music), Suzies(very friendly), Slap and Tickle(Karaoke bar), Beechcomber Sportsbar(music bar), The Dome(Karaoke bar), 60's bar(60's music), Ledgends,(Probably one for the older generation!), Penalty Spot(one for afternoon beverage!). There was definitely plently of choice.

Activities durng the day- Just like in the evening there certainly wasnt a shortage of things to do durin the day. The complex itself has plenty to keep kids occupied, there wasn't a shortage of activity clubs. The beech directly ouside the Barcelo complex is perfectly adequate, volley ball nets, sunbebs, sea and plenty of sand! But, if you want something that little bit better, walk around the bay towards the terracotta coloured 5* Sheraton Hotel. This beach isn't visable from the Barcelo complex but there is a strech of man-made beach that can only be described as a 'blue lagoon' the water here is broken by rocks and the man-made area (golden sand!) just looks like something you'd find in the Carribean. Also round this bend, again close to the Sharaton hotel is a rescently built shopping centre called 'Atlantico.' This has various shops, a cinema, bowling alley, bars, a burger king and of course a McDonalds! It is literally a 15 minute walk from the Barcelo complex but if you dont fancy the walk, theres a free bus service right from the complex diectly to the shopping centre! Theres even a 'prize bingo hall' towards this area that might be worth a visit!!

The Barcelo complex also has a small harbour where jet skis, bumper boats and pedal boats can be hird. Theres also snorkling and windsurfing activities on offer. If you do go near the harbour, there is a brilliant shop that is deffinatly not to be missed. 'The Floating Shop' has loads of gifts and souviniers on offer, its one of the bast shops on the resort.

Just past the harbour area the rocks are home to lots of little chickmonks! They are all really friendly and lots of the bars sell chickmonk food so youcan go down and feed them! Their deffinatly worth a view! There is also a mini train from here that runs up into the resort centre for a couple of euros each.

Other activities include bike hire, the bay all the way around sea has bike lanes and this goes all the way up to Antigua(an up and coming area)which is great if you fancy a bit of an adventure. Bike hire cost as little as 2 bikes for 10 euros, deposits are usually required. We hired ours from 'Caleta Cycles' (situated close to the Sheraton hotel).
The resort also has a number of car rental places that averaged at around 35euros for a medium sized car for a days hire.(The longer you hire, the cheaper it goes.) Trikes are also available for hire.

Excursions are also available,we booked a trip to Lanzarote through 'Aqua Ticket' from the excursion office in the centre of the resort. Cost was around 30euros each for a full days trip.It was definatly worth it as we seen more of the island. The boat left from Corralejo which the excursion took us to by coach.

Overall Caleta de Fuste is certainly reccomended. The weather great and we would deffinatly return to the Barcelo complex and would advise anyone going to the resort of Caleta de Fuste that this is a lively, family orientated place with plenty to do!

We have just returned from the El Castillo club appts.
We stayed in Room 3072, travelling with Portland we had to pay 12 euros a day upgrade to get air conditioning which was well worth it.
The room was great plenty of space nice decor great bathroom, shower etc.The quality of the cleaning was also great and always very clean.
This is a big complex and the 3 section is about a 5 minute walk from the main resturant for half board.

The food we found to be of a good standard, much like most spanish hotels, good selection never a shortage of chips though. The waitress service was very good and friendly. Entertainment was not great all carried out by the hotel team no professional acts (mimed Grease was not great) There are 4 pools that we found, all a bit cold not heated.
The resort we enjoyed if we had known we would have gone self catering instead of Half Board as we found the restarants to be very good and reasonably priced. Piero's Cafe was good in the evening with entertainment different every night you need to arrive by about 8.30-8.45 to get a table as it gets very busy. The hypnosis show and drag show were both enjoyable all suitable for kids.

Overall we really enjoyed the holiday and the comments are not meant to be negative just constructive. If you want a good family holiday I dont beieve you will be disappointed.

We have just returned from above resort and it was one of the worst holidays we have ever had. The main reason was the amount of cockroaches in the apartment and around the complex and resort. I know you should expect them in volcanic islands, but this was the worst we have experienced, however much we sprayed the apartment they still came in.

The apartment complex looks quite nice and is in a bay, a short walk from a modern resort. The pools are very cold to swim in, but the sun beds are plentiful.

The entertainment was dire, so we took are reps advice and went to Piero's in the resort every night, which was a laugh.

We were delayed on our return journey by 6 and a half hours which just about summed up the whole holiday really.

Take my advice and choose somewhere else, I wish we had.

Accomodation was very nice, clean and spacious. We did however have trouble with birds flying onto our balconies and leaving a mess! We found the female members of staff to be quite rude and un-friendly - The male members of staff were fine. Pool areas are lovely with plenty of sunbeds. We found the food served in the ";Snack bar"; far better than anything served in the main restaurant, so, try to eat from there at lunch times! Some great restaurants to try outside of the complex include, The Trafalgar Bar and Restaurant and The Slow Boat II chinese. A very pleasant resort and the rocks along the coastal path are a must for people wanting to see the famous chipmunks!
