"Second time around"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We came back to this hotel having stayed here in 2006, this is the first time we have ever gone back to hotel so it was interesting to see what changes had been made in three years if any. The reception staff were extremely good, fast check in, and somebody ready to take your bags to your room, the bars had changed to mainly self service which led to the floor and the bar being a little sticky because of the over fizzy drinks ( a little less gas would have sorted that and eventually did). I was dissapointed with the amount of fly's in the dinning room but a discreet word at reception sorted this and half lemons with cloves in them cured the problem, the food was extremely good, plenty of it and constantly replenished with fresh hot food, plenty of choice, and some of the freshest salads i had had anywhere, The resteraunt staff don't always smile but they are looking after big sections and turning the tables around very quickly, very rarely standing still for very long, but they are attentive if you need anything,
The rooms are a good size and have what you need, fridge, telly etc although the channels in english are limmited, but i didn't go all that way to watch the telly anyway. the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms large and clean, the pool snack bar is an option, if you don't want a dinner at lunch time but is quite basic, the resteraunt is as good lunch time as it is in the evening and if you want a three course meal it is available, but again so is the salads.
The evening entertainment is a bit hit and miss and is usually done by the residential staff, they do their best, They are always willing to talk and have a smile for every one but if i wanted a show I'd go to Majorca or Teneriffe,
We travelled with our two teenage daughters who were more than happy with what was available to them by way of daytime activities etc, the entertainment staff do try to get you involved but don't hassle you if you say no thanks.
The Staff around the pool were removing towels from sunbeds and this is one of the few places I have seen this happen, if you put your towel on a bed in the morning and then disapear for breakfast it may well be gone when you get back so beware.
We are going back again in 2010, this hotel provided everything we needed, clean rooms, clean resteraunt with plenty of choice and a relaxing atmosphere, if you are going to the Jandia, enjoy your holiday, we have!!

"Nice hotel, poor location"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Not bad but the lack of evening entertainment spoilt it for us. There was no where else to go around the hotel and the town was down a very steep hill. The 'piano' bar had no music or entertainment for 4 out of our 7 days and the 'shows' in the Theatre were very poor. We're used to poor entertainment in All Inclusives but the lack of anything in the surrounding area spoilt the holiday. Even some background music in the bar would help to create an atmosphere. Nice rooms and lovely pool area though. Food was average.

"Very Relaxing - Good Standard"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This hotel is situated behind the Barcelo Jandia Playa hotel which you can use as well. In fact this hotel seemed a little more select and quieter. The food in the Playa was good and calmer in the restaurant. The food at the Mar was excellent too. Men need to wear long trousers in the evening. The variety of fresh fruit was excellent and available at every meal time. Also Cheese and biscuits is unusual. The a la carte is only open on a Friday evening and if you want to go its free but book on your arrival because they don't take many. First drink is free - we had a spirit and mixer and this was internal brands i.e. Gordons, Bacardi. If you have a bottle of wine then you will be charged along with bottled water. Help yourself buffet for starter - not much choice and the same for dessert. Main course is either meat or fish which is pre-ordered on booking. Both very nice. Couple of bands/groups were the entertainment in the piano bar in reception which were good. Big punch bowl of the cocktail of the day that you could help yourself to also. Drinks are all help yourself accept the spirits. Fridge in room but has nothing in! if you want water then you have to pay - my advice is keep your bottles from the plane and then fill them from the water machines which is fine. Safe is 2 Euros per day. Towel hire is 20 Euros per towel deposit and each time you swap them in they charge you 2 Euros. The spa is ok with a pool that you can just walk into when you feel like - avoid 11.30 to12.30 and 2 to 3 as this is when the kids are allowed in but other than that there was never more than 4 people in the pool/jacuzzi. Outdoor pools were cold but bearable. Sunbeds plentiful and no need to reserve at the crack of dawn. If you want to explore then make sure you walk down the hill just outside the hotel and this leads you down to the underpass which gets you to the beach. if you walk to the left then you will find a little beach bar in about 10 mins. If you walk to the right then you can walk for ages and there is a beach bar there too. As you walk you will see the nudists strutting their stuff! There are shops and restaurants about 10 mins walk from the Hotel. When you come back use the lift by the spa which will take you upto the Playa Hotel and your room card should let you in the gate. You can then walk through this hotel gardens and reception (having a drink on the way!) and then outside this reception walk to the right and the gate to get in the Mar is just before the end of the road. All in all we had a lovely relaxing week and for the money was great value. Would definitely return. All nationalities and it was a welcome change not to be over run by english people being loud!

"Quiet resort, lovely beaches"
Small quiet resort with plenty of bars and restaurants, same with Morro Jable. Thursday market in Jandia a mixture of the usual tourist tat but also some interesting stalls but watch out for pickpockets; we saw a smartly dressed couple where the woman stood at the stall to cover the view while the man tried to lift a purse from a handbag.

"An excellent all-inclusive 4-star hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Our coach transfer from the airport, which was arranged by Thomson / First Choice, served two other hotels prior to Jandia. Consequently, our transfer took little more than one hour. Other passengers, who had travelled with Thomas Cook, arrived 40 minutes later having called at many other hotels en route.
Check in procedures at the hotel were friendly and efficient , and a porter took our bags to our room, whilst we had lunch in the restaurant.
The Barceló Jandia Mar welcomes many nationalities and there were parties of German, Dutch, Danish and British visitors. There were also many Spanish guests. The standard of the food was probably the best we have enjoyed at any Spanish hotel, and choices in the main buffet restaurant catered for the cosmopolitan clientele.
Menus provided plenty of options and at breakfast, there were cereals, fresh fruits, prunes, figs, dried fruits, cold meats, cheeses, and yogurts. Cooked options included scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausages (a different type every day), bacon, fried potatoes, etc. One of the chefs fried eggs to order.
At lunch and dinner, the chef cooked meat and local fish on the griddle. The fish was amazingly fresh and the hotel offered other specialities. And there was always a wide of choice of salads, patés, hot and cold meats, fish, pasta, fresh vegetables, Canarian wrinkled potatoes, potato skins, fried potato chips, cheeses, desserts, cakes & pastries, fresh fruit, and six or seven varieties of luxury ice cream.
Local specialities included dishes like ‘goat stew’. Don't be deterred by the name. It was absolutely delicious. The meat had been marinated in wine, tomato and herbs , and slow cooked for a long time. I would strongly recommend guests to try the local delicacies. You have nothing to lose.
Our bedroom was furnished to a good standard with a TV, a refrigerator, plenty of drawers and hanging space, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and good lighting. The orthopaedic mattresses, which were virtually new, might be too firm for some people. However, I believe the hotel can offer a softer alternative upon request.
The room was absolutely spotless and was serviced daily by the maids. Our bedding was changed after three days and the towels were changed daily.
The reception area, restaurant, bars and other public rooms were always clean. Consequently, we were surprised to discover that the terraces around the pool had not been maintained to a similar standard. We arrived at Jandia at lunchtime on Wednesday, November 25th and the pool area was not hosed down or cleaned until the following Wednesday morning, December 2nd. That aspect was unacceptable.
There were plenty of sun loungers on the pool terraces (provided at no extra cost, unlike many Spanish hotels, which charge €2 per bed per day). However, the hotel was less than half full and I am sure the pool areas would have been much busier in high season. The hotel also provided beach towels (€20 refundable deposit).
There was very little to do at night. However, we particularly wanted a quiet break away from everything, so as far as we were concerned, the low key entertainment was not a problem.
Inevitably, there were a few other aspects that were not so good.
Virtually every Spanish hotel serves diluted fruit flavoured drinks from automatic dispensers, as a substitute for proper fruit juices. Barceló Jandia Mar was no different. However, there was always plenty of fruit at the breakfast buffet, so instead of taking ‘juices’ from the machine, we cut and squeezed fresh oranges.
In common with many other hotels, all of the hot drinks at the Barceló Jandia Mar came from automatic machines. These machines purport to offer a choice of hot water, drinking chocolate, espresso coffee, espresso with milk, filter coffee, latte, or cappuccino at a press of a button.
The machines contained three hoppers only, one of which had been filled with drinking chocolate powder. A second hopper contained instant coffee powder and the third one contained a white powder, which purported to be milk. There were no coffee beans and the resulting brew was undrinkable. I would advise anyone who prefers proper coffee, to take their own. In mitigation, virtually all Spanish hotels serve similar coffee.
Our other minor ‘moan’ relates to the inclusive alcoholic drinks. Most of the liqueurs were fine. However, the strength of the Gin and Vodka was only 30%, instead of the usual 37.5% or 40%. It was impossible to obtain a proper Gin & Tonic, because the bar personnel needed to pour so much gin that it diluted the tonic , and not the other way round.
We did not allow any of these aspects to spoil our overall enjoyment. The Barceló Jandia Mar is a lovely 4 star hotel and almost without exception, the staff were very helpful and friendly. We received excellent value for money and would definitely consider a return visit.

"Perfect relaxing week"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I feel I have to write a review after reading some others, it is amazing how people view things differently! We chose this hotel as were desperate to revisit the beach at Jandia after spending a day there 2 years ago. It is a perfect location for the beautiful beach. As for the much talked about hill all I can think is that people are becoming incredibly lazy. I have even seen it described as a mountain! Please do not let the hill put you off. My boyfriend and myself went to the beach every day for a week and it is easily manageable! Yes it is slightly tiring but the beach is more than worth it. Beautiful clear blue water and golden sand. Yes the beach is acoss a road but it is not busy and very easy to cross. Plus if you walk along the road there is a boardwalk to walk to the beach if you don't want to walk through water. 2 sunbeds plus shade 9 euros per day. I can't understand anyone visiting the south of the island and not going to the beach - makes no sense! The hotel itself was very nice. Rooms a good size, plenty of wardrobe space. Good air conditioning. Safe 2 euros per day, easy to use. Always very clean - many thanks to the cleaners for cleaning up all the sand we brought back from the beach! Staff very friendly in all areas. They seemed to appreciate our very limited Spanish and certainly did not treat us any differently to any other nationality. All I would say is more help please with finding the room on arrival! We had a map but basically had to find the room ourselves and the hotel is quite spread out. It was my birthday while we were there and we were left fruit and wine on the day, a nice touch. Apparently less British people go to this area - an advantage for me as there is nothing worse on holiday than British cliques! However while we were there there did seem to be quite a lot of Brits, they certainly make themselves heard, particaularly those from the north, what can I say! We were spoken to in German quite a bit, particularly in the shops and at the beach. I don't mind this as I speak some German but they would soon switch to English when they realised so no problems there. Spa shop very useful for buying odds like water, crisps and biscuits. Avoid the furthest away souvenir shop as the staff follow you round, a bit too keen! The other one is fine. I can not comment on the pool as we did not use it at all. Very limited shade though I noticed. When we went to breakfast at about 9 there were towels and people on sunbeds - please do not stereotype the Germans, it wasn't just them! Had a massage in the spa - fairly pricey but a worthwhile half hour with a very nice man! Food was good and varied. Hot plates would be beneficial at dinner. Also if you like ketchup, take some from the snack bar as I could not find it at dinner! Soup was basically everything thrown in and then named something, q funny! We didn't ever have lunch but went to the snack bar every day about 5ish after the beach. Was great being able to get your own drinks at breakfast and dinner - no hanging around for a waiter. Evening entertainment was too late in my opinion, did not start until 10 and could have done with being at 9. Only went to it once when it was a snake show. We ended up buying some playing cards and along with many others played cards in the upstairs bar. All inclusive drinks were great, not a great range of cocktails but I found ones to suit me. Use the upstairs bar if you prefer your drink in a glass - it is not the same having it in a cardboard cup! Could do with some music on at night - they had it in the restaurant but nothing in the bars. Were going to go to the disco but we are lightweights and too tired by 11! All in all a great holiday for us and more than worth what we spent. Also all inclusive meant we spent very little while there. Would definitely use this hotel again as a base for the beach. Was very dubious using Thomas Cook as have heard many bad things about them. However, could not fault them. Check in was instant - no queue at all. Seats together even though we hadn't paid for them. Flights on time and shorter journeys both ways. Films were good. We didn't pay for flight meals as I never eat mine anyway so just took some snacks and got soup on board. Transfer to hotel straightforward. We didn't go to the welcome meeting as didn't feel we needed to but information was left in our room still so that was nice. Would have no problem booking with them again.

"Definately not 4 star"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The Barcelo Jandia Playa is directly in front of the Barcelo Jandia Mar - do not confuse the 2 hotels. We booked this Holiday with Thomson and was told it was a 4 star Hotel - which I can definately say it is not, more like a 3 star. We went all inclusive and the food at mealtimes was very plentiful but nearly always luke warm and not hot. A microwave is supplied on the end of the servery area and lots of people used it to reheat their meals. Says it all really!! The salads were nice. The staff in the Restaurant were miserable and rude except if you were German then they couldn't do enough for you. The Hotel is mainly used by Germans and Spanish, we met only 4 other English people during the week we were there. Most of the bars were self service for soft drinks and beer. The waiter bar service at night was good. The entertainment at night in the Hotel was dire.....you have to see it to believe how bad it is. Most nights we sat in hysterics at the dreadful acts. They never sang live it was all mimed (badly). You had to wait 10 minutes between each act as the same 4 people performed all the time and they disappeared to change into the next costume. The Chinese Plate Spinning act was put on for dummies. The plates were glued to the end of the sticks and the 2 girls just wiggled the sticks to make it look ike they were spinning them. The Hotel advertised 4 bars but beware as 2 of them were never open as they didn't have the staff to cover them. Don't be fooled by the pictures on the Hotel websites - the swim up bars are never open. One couple had been coming to this Hotel for 7 years and the swim up bars had never been open. The kids club was good so this Hotel would suit families with young children. The sunbeds were plentiful when we went in October 2009. There are signs everywhere telling you that you cannot reserve sunbeds with towels but the Germans still did it. The swimmings pools were in dire need of cleaning. The bottoms were full of dirt and stuff that had blown in from the sunbeds, like tissues and plasters. Lots of tiles were missing from around the pools, especially the Jacuzzi area where we saw one person tear a hole in her costume from sitting on the edge of the pool and not noticing the broken tiles. Most nights we were subjected to a group of older germans singing german songs in the bar outside. Most mornings we would be woken by the maids wanting to get into our room to clean it. Even if you used a "do not disturb" sign they would chat loudly outside to each other. The Hotel is a good 20 minutes walk to the beach down a hill, as the Hotel is built on the side of a very steep hill. You have to cross a dual carriageway at the bottom of the hill to get across to the beach area on the other side. Be prepared to walk across water logged sand dunes to reach the sunbathing area and sea. At the bottom of the Hotel there are a few souvenir shops and a a Spar supermarket. Beware of the Electrical shop, it is a rip-off. They charged one couple 27 euros for an electrical plug and the same plug was sold next door in the sounvenir shop for 3.50 euros. They also sold them a foot pump for blowing up a lilo for 20 euros when the shop next door was 5 euros. The best positive thing I can say is our break was very relaxing lazing by the pool all day long reading a book or two. I would never return to this Hotel.

Overall Hotel Rating:
we stayed here from 11 th july till 22 july 2009 and i would recomend this hotel to any one over forty years old , if you are looking to relax and unwind this is the place for you , even if you are parents of children then dont worry the animation team will entertain you ( shine on ) you will get it when you arrive .
we arrived about 22 .35 on friday evening to be told that a cold buffet would be served at 23. 00 the bel boy took our bags to the room and we had nice bit of food (bang on )
great room and air con if you need it, plenty of room at the pool and loads of sunloungers and the whole area is very c lean .
the food here is top quality and you will never starve ( 3 meals a day ) and burger and chips at the pool 12 till 6
the entertainment is different every night and varied not too boring and starts about 22.00 for about an hour .
good points; nice food ,very few brits, always bit of a breeze warm but not too hot , beer and wine fonts facing you self service if you require a spirit the bar man will pour it for you.
bad points; can be a bit windy sometimes , shops all seem to sell same stuff and never tell you how much things cost , the hotel is at the top of a hill

"Much better than expected"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I'd seen some reviews that were negative and was a little concerned but the hotel and the staff we excellent. We arrived at 11.00 pm and we greeted with a smile and champagne, they offered to get us some food but we just wanted our room. As the hotel complex is quite large and our room was in block 2 ( a couple on minutes walk) they took us and the bags via a golf cart which was lovely of them and they really could not do enough to help which summed up the staff throughout the holiday. The romm was large with lots of storage, clean and tidy and a mini bar filled with water bottles (they didn't charge for them). The hotel is about 15 mins walk to the town and you go out of the back enterence to the hotel and down in a lift to ground level, - the beach is over the road and there are few shops in this complext to (department store, spa, hugo boss) and a couple of beach bars too. Turn right and Jandia is 15 mins walk at most although that was a slow amble. The pools in the hotel were fantasitc but my tip would be to avoid the bigger ones that got busy early and head to the one by the Spa Centre, it was smaller but always had beds and was a bit of a sun trap, also you could just pop into the jacuzzi which was located in the Spa, if you overheated. The food was fine, I'm a fussy eater and was always happy that there was an option for me, pizza, pasta, roast chickens, chips sat together with international dishes so there was lots of variety, at least 10 dishes a night. So finally I would say don't worry if you were concerned by negative reviews, we saw nothing to spoil our holiday, infact we are looking at returning.

"Hotel Barcelo Jandia Mar"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from a superb week at this hotel, the fellow Brits there were all very friendly and the weather was superb. We had a small issue with our room which was dealt with quickly and got moved to a smashing room with a side sea view over the lighthouse. We did try the a la carte restaurant but in our opinion was not really worth it as you had to purchase all your drinks aswell , the food was so good in the buffet restaurant with a lot of choice especially if you like fish. We didn't find the steep hill too bad, just thought of it as exercise for the day to burn off calories and the beach was well worth it when you got there, there were also a lot of steps in the hotel which could cause a problem for the less mobile. We would definately return to this hotel we thought Jandia was a lovely spot and the hotel great value for money- quality without the frills!!!!!!

"A Good Quality Hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Please don’t believe some of the negative comments this is a well run hotel. We stayed between 1st and 8th of April via First Choice and were a bit worried when we were the only ones getting off the coach to the hotel. We were greeted with a friendly face at reception and the offer of a drink while completing the check-in formalities. We were allocated two good sized rooms next door to each other (numbers 411 & 412) one for me and my wife and the other for our daughter. Both the rooms had views of the sea, lovely bathrooms and large balconies. Rather than repeat everything that has already been said here are a few important things you should be aware of before you book. Pros Hotel staff and in house animation team – very pleasant and enthusiastic. Food - generally good with plenty of choice, a cooked breakfast and well chosen evening meals. If you miss breakfast try the lunch which is underrated and is specially made rather than being regurgitated last nights evening meal. Meal times were very busy when we were there (just before Easter) but the restaurant coped OK . Wines and soft drinks are all on tap rather than from bottles but the standard was acceptable. For 7 Euros extra per person per day you could chose a la carte in a separate dining room but there were never more that half a dozen people in there so we didn’t try it. Drinks – local spirits and cocktails and contrary to some reports we never had to wait more that 30 seconds in the queue for alcoholic drinks. Sunbeds – plenty of them with some covered shaded areas rather than parasols Pools - External ones were cold but the indoor spa pool; is pleasant and warm Evening entertainment - In the large theatre area entertainment was a bit patchy but not a bad as some have described. We had Beatles Tribute Band (great), Birds of Prey show, a modern dance group, a parrot show and for two evenings the enthusiastic animation team who, as they are not professionals played it for laughs. Individual musicians also perform in the Lobby Bar. Clientele - Mostly German but a considerable number of Spanish (I was pleased about that), some French and a smaller number of English. All were well behaved with no drunks or lager louts and I got the impression that the management don’t want those in the premises. At the “welcome meeting” we were told 2 English guests had to removed from the hotel in the past. Beach – Magnificent yellow sand that goes on for miles but beware you will see some exhibitionists wearing only a smile !! Cons It’s a steep hill to get to the hotel good if you want to get fit. The courtesy bus only goes to the bottom of the hill and straight back again but the local bus goes to other parts for 1 euro per trip. Disco in the Hotel - begins at 23.15 and is supposed to be strictly for the over 18s (although my daughter aged 15 got in without any trouble, I suspect because we accompanied her). Frankly the small disco area isn’t up to much unless you are in your 20s and 30s. It does have a uniformed security guard at the door controlling entry. Shopping – The Centre at the bottom of the hill near the beach is largely empty although it does have a Mango and a Douglas (perfumes etc). A larger tourist shopping area is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel and the very Spanish resort of Morro Jable is a good 45 minutes walk away.
Hotel Bars close at 11pm precisely which is clearly stated in the on-line and written brochures I have seen. So to those who have complained about this in other reviews I say next time please read to tourist operator information My final comment is that we will have no reservations about returning to this hotel.

"Fabulous Fuerteventura"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The Barcelo Jandia Mar provided an excellent escape for the week. We went all inclusive and the meals were of a very good standard and the house drinks were commendable (my tip is to stay off the long island ice teas). The pools were a very god size and while there was a clamber for the sun loungers in the morning at the beginning of the week it was quickly addressed by the management. Plenty to do in the day, mini golf etc. Excellent views over the beautiful coast of Fuerteventura. One thing has to be said about the location, it is at the top of a very steep hill but there is a free bus ran by the hotel to take people down to the beach which is a must. Think it was around €4 at the time for a lounger All in all I will revisit again in a heartbeat
