Maspalmas is a fairly quiet resort, not a lot of night life but a good selection of restaurants. A short walk (15 mins) to Meloneras, which also has a small selction of good restaurants. For more hussle and bussle a 10 mi

boring place no bars or entertainment, unless your german and over 60. or you play golf. there was a entertainment centre for very young families with a fairground , bowling etc. but this wasnt for us with two teens who wanted nite life, so had to keep getting taxis to playa del ingles which is a big ugly place with no character at all. but plenty of nightlife but all too spread out. give us puerto rico any day.

"lovely but expensive"

the area of maspalomas is quite a way out from the centre of town which is known as melonaras theres no bars or restaurants as such in maspalomas only in holiday world which a fairground and a bowling centre and faro2 shopping centre but alot of the shops are closed due to lack of business but there are a few restaurants but more cafe type good for breakfast or lunch. Melonaras you will see as you come into resort all very big posh hotels who pay to get dropped off first from the airport very nice and all very expensive lovely shops and some nice restaurants and another shopping centre but the euro is very expensive at the moment we were paying roughly £70 a evening for meals and drinks for 4 of us which adds up over the week so we had burger king one eve. Hire a car as the island is great to drive around roads are very good we had a car for 2 days went to peurto rico one day which is lovely my girls were delighted to see a mcdonalds and more british than where we were that took about 20-25minutes drive the next day we went to peurto moran again very pretty some lovely cafes and fishing boats just a little further around the coast we then decided to hire the car another day and went to alantico shopping centre about 35 minutes drive the other way its a carrefour on the top floor and a nice shopping centre on the bottom bit of a strange layout but great as they have january sales and we spent most of our time shopping in mango and zara . i wanted to buy a leather bag in meloneras and all the shops had them and wanted 35euros but i got it in peurto rico in the end for 19euros exactly the same so i think melonaras/maspalomas is more expensive for shopping eating out and drinks playa del ingles has two great centres yumbo and kasbah the latter being where the louder bars are and they stay open to 2/3am sand dunes and beach in maspalmos are lovely watch out though there is a nudist bit which we found out good laugh tho

The town of Maspalomas is lively and there are some lovely restaurants. We found a really good Italian and spent most of our holiday eating there as the prices were reasonable! The town has a good range of shops from boutiques to toy shops for the little ones. We found that the prices of spirits were really good and ended up packing a couple of bottles (in the beach towels we hadn't used) to bring home. Good for Xmas!

There's also lots to see and do. The sand dunes are fab and really amazing to see. There’s also places like Holiday World (a big fairground) and other attractions but we just stuck to relaxing in the hotel/apartment complex.

the resort is highly populated by mianland europeans but this certainly didn't affect our holiday. The resort itself is small and fairly upmarket, some fantastic shoe and handbag shops! There are also numerous fantastic restaurants, we did not have a bad meal there and found it to be very reasonable pricewise. All in all the hotel and resort were both fantastic and we were very sad to leave. The Cay Beach Melonaras may not be the most glamorous place to stay but it has a nice viallge atmosphere and I couldn't fault it for cleanliness or staff. I would definately recommend it.

"peaceful holiday"

The beach and dunes are about 25mins walk away, as is Costa Meloneras with its very large luxury hotels. A pleasant walk or a taxi ride if preferred. The food was good and there was an extensive choice of hot and cold meats, salads, vegetables, and desserts. Evening entertainment consists of a piano bar and theatre in each building, but Playa del Ingles is only a 5/10 min taxi ride away from Maspalomas if you want something more exciting.

A pleasant walk or a taxi ride if preferred.Only downside is going literally just outside of the resort, not on an organised trip, as people bug you with unwanted "you've won something come with us" garbage. I know they are doing it to earn a living, but u pay for a holiday and don't want unwanted sellers - it's bad enough in the UK for things like that!

"Maspalomas beach"

Overall Resort Rating:

Good

Open quote

Maspalomas itself is basically a collection of hotels and you have to travel to the beach area to find much. However it was worth the trouble as the beach is stunning, miles of sand with sand dunes in the background and sea that gets deeper very gradually so is ideal for kids. There are loads of deck chairs to hire if you want to but being tight we just took our towels and sat on them. Behind the beach there a lots of little touristy shops, cafes and restarants. You can also go for camel rides in the sand dunes.

We took a few trips out away from the resort. Firstly we went to aqualand which we all enjoyed. Our daughter is quite tall for 6 and was able to go on most of the rides. There was an area aimed at smaller children but this was quite limited and I think we would have been disappointed to have paid the entrance fee and only be able to go on that. However we had a great time and tried out most of the rides although I was not brave enough for some of the slides. We also went on a camel riding trip, I can't remember exactly where but it was about 15km inland and worth it just for the chance to see some of the non resort island. We had a half hour ride on the camels, fed a baboon and kissed a camel (not as disgusting as it sounds!). A great afternoon out. We also went to the holday park fun fair but found that a bit disappointing. It was fine for what it was but having paid our 20 euro for a large book of tickets we struggled to use them all. The big wheel and roller coaster was good but a couple of the other rides were closed (we went mid Oct) and a lot of the others that were left were aimed at quite small children.

The location is perfect and near the beach, shops, restaurants and other places such as Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico. There are also some new designers shops about 10 minute walk from Hotel beyond the Lighthouse, which are worth looking at, and the main Maspalomas sand dunes beach is only 3 minutes' walk away. Overall, would go back to Seaside Palm Beach time after time - if you want something up market, special (no children) and no riff-raff, then this is the hotel for you! (But it's not cheap!).

We walked over them to the beach every day, but a word of warning - they can be a slog, especially if it is hot which it will be! There are marked routes which will take you in the direction of the lighthouse - another other option is to go to the edge of the Dunes and turn left following the pedestrian walkway alongside the apartments. After about 10 minutes walking you will see the "shopping centre" down below on your right hand side with steps leading down to the car-park. Go down there, and the walk to the beach is relatively flat. This "shopping centre" has loads of bars/restaurants that come alive at night with live music - mainly Abba & Elvis tributes! The other option is to put on a pair of pumps/sandals and go for the beach directly over the dunes. You can follow previous footprints, but don't be fooled by thinking the dunes aren't large - some are massive, and if you slipped down them you would take ages to get out. However, if you are young & fit and fancy a bit of fun then they can be a great laugh - it will take about 10-15 minutes to get to the beach this way. The actual Beach is lovely, and you can walk all the way along the shore to Maspalomas Lighthouse & beyond.( Maspalomas is a bit more up market, and the Bars/Restaurants are better quality than Playa del Ingles.)

The market, faro 2, funworld, playa d ingles all very near but not close enough to spoil the tranquillity of the place. Location may not suit many as it is a long way from Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas beach which unless you have a car would mean a taxi everywhere; however this was not a problem.
