Stayed at the Colina Mar in January/February 2010. Had an excellent holiday and loved Gran Canaria. Arrived mid-afternoon, the chap in reception was in the middle of an argument with a customer, which didn't bode well, but to be fair I think she was trying to get something she wasn't entitled to. He was fine during our stay. Our apartment had all the necessities for self catering, good kitchen with kettle, toaster, microwave etc.-although except for breakfast we never cooked anything! The view from the balcony over Peurto Rico was fantastic, and I recommend taking a set of binoculars! The apartment was fairly basic, but quite adequate for our needs-cleaned regularly, except for a period where it wasn't done for 4 days (possibly due to a misunderstanding)-told a cleaner who was horrified, and it was done immediately. We had a few ants, but they were only tiny and not really a problem-spray was provided, I used it once and never bothered again. The hotel is perhaps in need of a bit of a facelift, but we found it fine. Two pools, one bigger one where all the activites go on, another slightly smaller and quieter. My daughter spent all day in the pool for most of our holiday, whilst my wife and I soaked up the sun. Bar with snacks right nearby. One thing I certainly recommend is an MP3 player, as all the Eurodisco coming out of the speakers gets on your nerves after a while! No problem getting a sun lounger. Only ate at the restaurant twice, once in the evening (nothing special) and once for breakfast (not bad). Both buffet style. No complaints with any of the staff. The Colina Mar is situated high above the town, I walked it once just to say I'd done it, but unless you're a fitness freak, get a taxi! About 3-4 Euros. Small shop on site, or the Europa centre with a supermarket is just across the road. We were perfectly happy with the Colina Mar-OK, it's not 5-star luxury, but you're not paying for that-we had an excellent holiday there. Bolled via Thomas Cook, whom I thought were excellent throughout, from the Travel Agents where we booked, to the resort staff, especially Becca, our rep, who was very friendly, helpful and regularly seen at the hotel.

Me and my partner (age's 22 and 21 respectively) went for 10 days in November and we enjoyed it immensely, helped by the accommodation. The rooms were lovely, including all utilities and utensils needed for those self catering. We was very impressed by the rooms. The staff were VERY helpful.

The one thing we LOVED about the hotel was the fact it has 2 pools. One was slightly larger and was used for the young families with children to cater for. This always had music, and games keeping people entertained. The second pool was more quiet, and for people who wanted to relax in peace and quiet. We really appreciated this, as wanted to mainly relax this holiday.

The hotel is situated very high up on the hills overlooking Puerto Rico, with nice views. Obviously this left us with a 35 minute walk to the beach which is nice walking down, but hard to walk up the 500 odd steps returning. However for a 3 Euro taxi, or a 80 cents bus ride you cant really moan (although plenty do). Also, literally 70 yards from the hotel is the Europa Center. This is a complex full of roughly 15 restaurants, 10 pubs and plenty of shops (including a local supermarket). There is also a little shop located in the hotel, which can cater for pretty much everything.

Unfortunately we cant comment on the hotel entertainment, because we like to spend our evenings out. Though when we returned to our rooms, in the 2 bars there was differing and seemingly enjoyable entertainment for adults and kids alike. In the once we eat in the hotel, the food was lovely at a reasonable price.

In conclusion, The location is overlooking Puerto Rico, but taxi's and buses are plentiful and cheap. Also the Europa center can cater for everyones need. The hotel caters for those wanting entertainment and those wanting a peaceful holiday.

Fantastic place, and i'd recommend it to anyone.

We read some bad reviews after we had booked this holiday so were slighhtly nervous before coming out however, despite being the last ones dropped off on the airport bus ride, we absolutely loved our stay here. We had 2 weeks and were not bored in the slightest, food was good, entertainment was good, staff were brilliant.

Went here in August 08 as friends were going and had been before was so looking forward to it but total disaster. Went with my boyfriend and met friends there.

1.Took 3 hours to get here from airport as had to drop off ppl everywhere so got here early hours of morning. 2. First day our toilet flooded and we had sewage all over the room, they came out after 30 mins as no one understood english so took forever to explain and replaced the toilet, got cleaners to clean up. 3. Second day i went toilet in night and slipped over as the toilet had leaked abit, i was half asleep so didnt notice and slipped, didnt hurt myself much but i was pregnant so worried abit 4. 3 days in it happened again but this time it would not stop flooding, there was poo all over the room our suitcases which were under the bed got covered in sewage, all my shoes got covered aswel, we again told reception took hour to come out but by this time it was flooding out the door, again they came and said they would sort it, we had to wait outside the apartment for 2 hours in the blistering heat whilst this was done. All i can say is that heat and sewage have the most wicked foul smell ever 5. The food was appaulling aswel, not much choice and i ended up living on cheese and ham toasties from the snack bar 6. On the 4th day the waiter chased after us when we left the restaurant and asked us to pay the bar bill, we explained we were all inclusive and he said the drinks are not free and that they do not do all inclusive, We went the reception as we had booked all inclusive and had it on our booking confirmation, they said it must have been a mistake as they do not do all inc and said i was to complain when we got home. We had to pay for the drinks, didnt mind as we had only had soft drinks but that wasnt the point. 7. They finally decided to move us to another room when i explained that i was worried about all this sewage whilst i was pregnant 8. We moved rooms and guess what we had an ant infestation in the kitchen part, the fridge leaked and smelt of mold, We decided to just deal with it but they did get yet another cleaner in but this didnt help, she sprayed ant killer down all over the apartment which had a really strong smell that chocked us When we returned i had hospital checkup and i had lost the baby, they said it was prob due to the fall i had. I am still currently in process of my compaint. I advise anyone not to go here, they are appauling ppl and the place is disgusting.

Having read some of the reports on here was not looking forward to our stay at colina mar. When we got there i was surprised at how wrong most of the reports were. The complex is at the top of a large hill and has excellent views of the beach , town and harbour. The room was basic but clean and tidy, one bedroom with 2 beds and plenty of storage space, safety box in wardrobe. well equipped kitchen, toaster, kettle plenty of pots and pans etc. Bathroom was clean and spacious.

The staff on reception and the cleaning staff were pleasant and spoke good english.
2 pools on complex...smaller one is quiet with a bar/snack bar...music playing, larger pool has same but there is entertainment there too, killer pool, killer darts, shooting, water polo, water volleyball, inflatable snake , poolside quizzes etc.
Free kids club every day except saturday.
plenty of evening entertainment too
Happy hour from 6.30 till 8.....bar prices not too bad, 2.50 euros for pint.

Mark and Christina run the entertainment, Christina was excellent with the kids and adults.

off site is the europa centre, plenty of bars and restaurants, had most of our meals in the Tavern and Flicks, good food at reasonable prices.

Evenings in europa has loads of bars most with live entertainment, spent a lot of time in mambo's.....cheap beer, shot quiz and karaoke.

Mary d's is a good bar, lots of entertainment in there.

Long walk to the town....steep hill....walked down ok, walked up once, never again tho, get a taxi. 3 euro's (3.50 on sundays)..well worth it.

Not much in the town for the kids...mainly mini golf and a small play area that cud do with tidying up.

All in all not a bad holiday but not our best.

As for the appartments i can only have good words to say about them.

Went for day trip to sioux city, western town, good value, good shows, kids loved it.

Just got back from a week, staying in the Colina Mar. Before I went, i checked this site out, and found it very helpful.

Here's what I thought about the acomodation and resort.

I have staying in puerto rico many times before, accomodation included, Palmeramar, and the Rio Sol, which I would also fuly reccommend.

The Colina Mar were fantastic apartments. When we arrived, we were given our key and a map of the apartments, as they are rather quite big. We found our room with no problems. Also found the lady on the desk very polite and helful.

The room itself was great, there was 3 of us. The living room area was very big, with plenty of storage space and room for the 3rd person to sleep comfotably. It had a TV which could be paid for at reception, which I might add, we didn't bother with. There was a breakfast bar area, and 2 hob rings, kettle, toaster and plenty of pans, plates etc. We found it fairly easy to cook when we needed to.

The bedroom, had 2 single beds and a huge wardrobe with plenty of hangers. Also a dressing table area with a large mirror and further 4 drawers..There was also spare pillows and blankets if needed.

The room was very clean, and had everything you needed. The accomodation is basic, but not tatty. We found it perfect for our holiday.

We had our room cleaned quite a lot, although randomly...first two days running then they missed 2 days, then everyday again for the rest of the holiday. We got clean towels nearly every day, and the sheets were changed once. The cleaners were also friendly.

There was always plenty going on. There are 2 pool areas, one that is really quiet with a bar area, and the other, which has music, bar area, and some activities going on. The did a kids club every morning, also had killer pool comps, archery, shooting, water polo, volleyball, even a fashion show one day at the pool, so there was always a buzz around the pool area. The snacks at the pool were fine, the usual, burgers, chips, sanwiches etc...There was no problem getting a sunbed, even at 10am, but i have to say, it was a bit quiet when we were there.

There was always something going on at night, at the disco bar, karaoke, bingo, live acts like singers, parot shows etc, it should all be taken in good hliday spirit.. Even bbq nights on a tuesday and friday night, which was great value for 9 euros.

Great place for brekkie is 'flicks' in the europa centre..Proper bacon, sausages etc..was to die for and they also did homemade cooking from home like cottage pie, giant yorkies etc...The barbacoa is great for entertainment, although the entertainment is free, you pay for in in the price of you drinks.. we saw Paul Thorpe, the Elvis impersonator, he was fantastic.. Also reccommend, 'Mary d's' and the irish bar, 'blarney stone' in the europa centre too. If you fancy something a bit more mad and lively, take a taxi down to the europa centre, where you will find every bar imaginable.. I have to say, 'Harleys' is great, half naked me dancing on the bar!! hehe.. The is plenty of taxi ranks at the europa centre...and they are really cheap too.

We didn't bother with the welcome meeting, as you can book your trips cheaply by yourself, in fact there is even a little stand outside the apartments, that sell them!

All in all, i would defo go back to these apartments. Oh, as for cockroaches..well have to say didn't see many, we had none in our room at all the whole holiday, until the last night, we found one in the bathroom, i think the little sod snuck in to say goodbye..haha..

x

Just come back from two weeks at the Colina Mar, Puerto Rico, been to Puerto Rico twice before but first time at Colina Mar. Apartments basic but clean, walls a bit thin though, had to be moved after two nights as we had noisy neighbours. You can hire the satellite TV for 3euros a night which has some good english channels, but be aware of one of the channels it has something on it you would want little eyes viewing!!!!!!! (if you know what I mean). Entertainment good (well done to Christine pools good, restaurant OK, its OK if you don`t fancy going out, but there are plenty of places to eat at the Europa Centre which is only 2 mins from the apartments, or you can go down to the Commercial Centre where there is millions of places to eat, the Chinese Buffet is really good value for money.

If you enjoy looking around a market, then go to Mogan on Fridays, you can get the ferry a bus or a taxi is only about 15euros.

All in all a good holiday, all the staff where very polite and helpfu, would definately go back again.

Accom. Clean basic 4 people stayed in our room we found it ok we stayed for one week had towels changed twice and bed changed once we had no ants or cockroaches although our friends had four on the first night which freaked them out got spray from reception and were not bothered again our room was 108 so we used the noisey pool which we preffered.quite alot of pidgeons around the pools but dont bother you the pool wasnt too cold for february we were in every day Plenty of beds but think the pool area would be very crowded in peak season There was entertainment on nightly and a kids club but we went out every night apart from when our daughter came down with a sickness bug and we had to stay in apartment got tv on and was shocked to see hard core pore channel on any time of the day see beware !also beware the lifts our daughters got stuck in them and so did other holiday makers

WEATHER was brill lovely and hot pool becomes shaded about 5 oclock and temperature drops at night in feb definetly need jacket

RESORT lovely clean pretty island would definetly go back people are very friendly commercial centre at the bottom of VERY steep hill most places serve nice food but gets on your nerves how they hassle you for your custom We much preffered the europer centre it was only 2 mins walk from the colina mar good entertainment we enjoyed barbacoa saw a good elvis impersonater although he was very rude to a group of irish people constantley asking them to stop taking when he was singing he wanted complete silence which was impossible they irish group of people eventually walked out bar staff appologised to them their bar bill had been over 300 euro

EXCURSIONS we didnt do much went for a relaxing week with friends one of which is a keen golfer he went to tauro to play golf for one day and said it was a lovely course My husband also enjoyed fishing in the harbour We all went on trip to sioux city and at 48 euro per person was really over priced the food was cold and the drinks in plastic cups the show was ok the setting was lovely but we thought it should of been throgh the day as its outside and was very cold we needed a cup of tea not alcohol. also the bus trip to get there was a terrifying experience around the steep mountains we got off at the bottom on the way back as the driver seemed to be going far to fast

all in all we had a Great time with great company and would definetly recommend puerto rico dont let the hill put you off the taxis are only 3 euros and come every minute

Arrived here late on the Monday night, everything seemed fine, very high up,but I already knew this, what a view.We stayed in room 323,we were quite pleased with our room.We didn't have any sheets for the sofa bed,or the pull out bed for 2 days, after several visits to reception we eventually got them. Our room was infested with tiny ants,on furniture,in beds,in cupboards and drawers, all over the kitchen worktops, and in the bathroom.

Be careful with what you leave lying in your apartment, cleaners lifted a carrier bag full of crisps and sweets which I had only just bought a couple of hours before,I complained to reception, nothing was done, would have complained to our rep,but you could never find her,saw her twice the 2 weeks we were there.

Our sons enjoyed the entertainment. There are plenty of sun beds, and pool is a good size.Took a trip out on BIG RED down at the harbour, this is a must,it is FANTASTIC.Amadores beach is really nice,as is the waterpark in Puerto Rico,it's well worth the money.

Had a really good holiday in Puerto Rico, and we would definetely go back, but we wouldn't stay in the Colina Mar,it's ok if you can put up with the pigeon poo and the tiny insects you have to share your apartment with.

Having read the mixed reviews about this accomodation I thought well you cant please everyone so we decided to give it a go,MISTAKE!!

Probably everyone of the negatives we read about actually happened to us.On arrival at 4am we were swiftly given our key at reception and made our way to our room 103 only to find that it was one of the dreaded rooms above the disco bar which someone else had commented on, but we thought well lets give it a chance and see how we get on.At seven thirty we were woken by two or three of the staff dragging all the tables and chairs along the ground that had been left scattered around from the previous nights entertainment this went on for about ten minutes with the staff shouting across to each other ,I had to open the window(Which made more of a noise because it was so stiff)to ask them to keep the noise down, which they did.At nine am the pidgeons were on the balcony cooing and pooing!!

In the cold light of day we had a better chance to look around the room which had everywhere you looked hundreds of tiny little ants crawling everywhere on the sink, worktop fridge in the bathroom they were even inside my zipped up makeup bag yuk.The bath had quite a bit of rust along the edge considering they were supposed to have been refurbished, the towels smelled old and didnt dry you properly we ended up using our beach towels.Returning to our room that night there were two cockroaches one the size of a mouse up on the curtain pole that did it for me.Up to reception to complain his answer was to send a maid down with a tin of spray, the smell lingered all night.

The disco directly below us might have as well been held in our room as the volume was ridiculously high and went on till 2am then everone sits around afterwards for ages making noise.Next morning we asked to be moved we were added to the long list already on it.The new room was still on the first floor but along at the other end of the complex beside the quite pool peace and tranquility. But still crawling with cockroaches in one week we had fifteen of them. The room was cleaned once.Everone we spoke to in the complex had cockroaches in their rooms, and said they wouldnt go back again .

The staff seemed friendly enough though and tried their best always smiling. The pools were definetly not heated as stated. The lifts are very tempremental. The view is spectacular from youre apartment.Maspalomas is 2O euros in a taxi the camels are an experience not easily forgotten.Oh and if you hire the remote control for the telly a word of warning if you have children some of the channels are ADULT!!even through the day.Amadores beach is the best as there is very large inflatables situated just offshore at 5 euros for 1 hour or 12 for the whole day kids get a lifejacket.

No we wont be returning the the Colina Mar but yes to Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is a brilliant resort but couldn't say the same about Colina Mar. Stayed in room 410. Arrived around midnight Monday night and our towels were only changed on Thursday afternoon after complaining. Room was not cleaned until Friday but was cleaned Saturday and Sunday as well. Room was crawling with ants and we complained twice and nothing was done - this was to reception staff. Finally reported this to Direct Holidays rep and we got a spray which did help. It's such a shame the rooms were not cleaned - although we met folks who were there last year and returning again next year. The rest of the place seemed clean and tidy, plenty of sunbeds but in saying the it was October and not the height of the season.

We definately go back to Puerto Rico but not to Colina Mar

2nd time in Puerto Rico, first time at Colina Mar. Lovely island, great resort. First impression of rooms - tatty. Rep was crp, didn't like the sun so she dissapeared somewhere into the shade every day. Room wasn't cleaned for three days, sheets not changed. Complained and they came in and lobbed the clean sheets on the bed for us to make ourselves. Old sheets left in room until they were taken away during our second week dispite numerous appeals to collect them. Second week room cleaned (in a fashion) regularly, sheets changed which we were happy with. They must have had some sort of staff shortage for week one.

Asked for THREE! Early morning calls and got NONE of them. Complained again. Was told to see our rep as it could have been our airport transfer we'd missed, and sure enough that happened on our final day and we had to jump in a taxi to the airport (at 4.30am) which cost us 57 euro. Take an alarm clock because they can't be bothered doing morning calls.

Pools were good bar snacks good. Eat out every night and the food in the retaurants in Puerto Rico is very good, although they tend to pester you to sit down.

Puert Rico beach is nothing fantastic, Amadores beach is superb. Took a trip on the Superseacat Catamaran which was excellent as was the Medieval night- got to go to that one, it's great fun (apart from the rep cabaret, which is pretty poor, at the end of a great evening). Also went on the island tour which was great also.

We have family in Purto Rico and have stayed in various hotels and apartments, we booked Colina Mar and stayed there feb 2005, we liked the Europa Centre and wanted to be closer to it, as previous October 2004 we stayed in Balcon de Amadores but was further away down the hill, we found the Colina Mar not a nice place to stay, even families staying there were drunk all the time, we had a party of girls staying beneath us who came in in the early hours, drunk and noisy, playing about on the balcony, most irritating was the smoke from thier late party was entering our appartment and eventually i had to close the windows, but more was to come the room next to ours was occupied by a Scottish family and the people came in late and started talking very loud to the party below us, and when asked to please keep noise down as we were trying to sleep we got nothing but abuse and bad langage from them! considering they were a family we did not expect or want this kind of behaviour, we complained next morning and moved appartments as rep said they could move us into another part of island only!

5yrs previous 1999 Colina Mar was nice now it`s bieng re-furbished,our linen was only changed once in 10days

This ruined our Holiday and couldn`t wait to get out of Colina Mar, we to like a drink and stayed out late some nights but never have i had to put up with this kind of behaviour
