Open quote

Hotel was nice, clean and well kept. Pool was good. Soft play area for 1 year old was a blessing. Food was nice.

Went with Portland, Thomson reps were rude and extremely unhelpful. Entertainment staff were good thou. Buggy handle ws broken by coach driver and they would do nothing for us.

We returned to this hotel and had fantastic time. Both the Thomsons reps and the hotel animation team were brilliant. Food as usual was good and the bar staff and cleaners were great

"fantastic holiday"

We have just come back from 10 days at the hotel san miguel. There were 16 in our party 10 adults and 6 children. When we arrived we were so disapointed and wanted to go home.We were shocked at how isolated and remote the hotel was.But when our 10 days were up we did not want to go home, the remoteness didnt bother us as we had everything we needed in the resort. The food was lovely and lots of choices available. We totally loved the entertainment, boogie nights was fantastic and the firework display the icing on the cake.Zorro is brillian, we loved him and olly, robbie, lee and jessy are great too.the entertainment team look like they enjoy themselves as much as the guests. The bar staff are great, always pleasent, Joses shots are lethal as are his hand slaps! Pools are a good size and clean and warm, park is great, toddlers loved the soft play. The kids disco is fantastic. We also loved Mister San Miguel contest which my brother won, his thighs are still hurting from lifting his lady up and down on the chair. Our favourite was the end of the evening when all the adults danced to follow da leader and sexy, loved Lee shaking his booty!

"A great holiday"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

We holidayed here at the beginning of June with our 2 children, aged 1 and 4. We all had a fantastic holiday, especially our 4 year old. The hotel was clean, the food in the restaurant and chinese retaurant was lovely, and the staff were excellent.

We felt the food was of a good very standard - for example they have a fish themed night once a week, and a huge salmon was served personally by the chef. The chinese is also very nice, and has a lovely quiet atmosphere. The Western Saloon by the pool is a snack bar and serves exactly what you would expect of a snack bar - chips, burgers, hotdogs and sandwiches. The food is obviously not as nice as the hotel restaurant, but its not too bad, and of course the kids liked it.

The beach is lovely, and the free watersports are definately worth a look. We bought a beach umbrella for 15 Euros, which was a good investment as you had to pay for sunloungers. We didn't spend much time by the pools, as personally they didn't look very inviting, and were also very busy. But again the kids liked them.

The soft play for babies is good too. Its understandably quite small, but is kept clean and has air conditioning.

The alcohol was excellent and you could have pretty much whatever you wanted, i.e. cocktails etc.

The sports were great, and my husband joined in with the beach volleyball almost every day.

Our eldest daughter went in the kids club a couple of times and really enjoyed it. She also loved 'Thomson The Dog'!

The evening entertainment was brilliant, and our little girl absolutely adored Messy Jessie! Messy Jessie was fantastic, she was very enthusiastic and actually looked like she was enjoying herself (even though the poor lass has to do the same rountine every night!). The entertainment staff dedicate about an hour and half every night to the kids, and they just love it. Kika the Clown was brilliant (and very beautiful without the clown make-up on, I may add), Zorro was excellent, and so was Loopy Lee. The grown-ups entertainment was good too, such as hypnotists and acrobats.

All in all we had a lovely holiday, and my husband and little girl 4 really want to come back again next year. I would come back here, but am resisting slightly as I missed having a big self-catering-style room as we've previously had on other (non inclusive) holidays. It took us a while to get used to us all 'living' in one hotel room, and its wasn't until the 3rd or 4th day of the holiday that we all relaxed and got used to the limited space.

But to sum it up, this is a great familiy resort, offers great value and is a great hotel!

"Great for the kids"

The hotel is only about 2 minutes walk from the beach, which is why we went for it! The rooms were very comfortable, and the hotel service was generally very good. The pool's in the hotel were very nice, the kids spent a lot of time in them. There was lots of entertainments for the kids, plus a kids club so we could get away on our own for a while. Good location for the nearby town too. Overall, very good.

Open quote

Three families traveled on the 18th May 2009 for two weeks with children ranging from 11months to 12 years of age. On arrival we soon discovered that the upgrade we had asked for ie a separate bedroom for the kids and a kitchen wasnt an upgrade at all - there wasnt such a thing so be very wary when booking on the Internet as the Thomsons site is misleading. Basically our room was 5 yards from the pool and consisted of a very pokey bedroom with a double bed and a single right next to it (no good for jiggy jiggy). After a complaint and some extra euros we managed to get moved from 1* rated accommodation to 4*, this new block doesnt appear to be advertised anywhere but you can get them by talking to reception - they consist of a kitchen with 2 single beds, a further double bedded bedroom and a bathroom, it also has two balconies. The holiday could now begin and we had a great time albeit this time of year seems to bring the chav's and chavettes out to play around the beach club but the hotel seems to have better clientèle. The pool is extremely busy with the usual foul mouthed teenager, nothing that couldnt be sorted by the parents if they wanted too!!. The food in the hotel is very good and the breakfast is probably the best I have ever had out of the England (real hashbrowns for 12 of the 14 days). The entertainment is brilliant and Zorro is someone I could watch every night of the year - this man can be extremely funny in four languages and the girls will swoon. Altogether we had a great holiday with just the accommodation problem and as mentioned with teenagers who need a clip around the earhole.

Location stunning - great views!! Its a very busy hotel with lots of steps though. The beach club pool can get very crowded but the beach on the doorstep is a great alternative. Rooms are small & poky and not very modern but chill out about it like we did & go with the flow - your only in the rooms to change & sleep! Food Good, not a huge range but nicely cooked - chinese really lovely would return!

Just returned from this hotel and would never go again. This hotel was recommended for a young family and when we booked they were aware that we had a 8 month old.there are so many steps just to get anywhere, only two lifts for the whole hotel so near impossible to get anywhere, we felt we spent most of the week waiting for the lifts which were constantly breaking down. Could not get round to the pool with the baby as the buggy, we had a tiny maclaren, could not fit and as we were on 4th floor and the pool is on 0 it was very annoying and when we did get to the pool the water was so freezing my boy had blue lips coming out. Resturant was on 8th floor and the food was poor, my 6 year old lived on salad and ham for the whole week, and there is no way i could have given the baby any of the food as the majority of the veg was deep fried in batter. The rooms at first looked basic but ok until..we realised they had painted over damp, there were insects coming in from gaps in the door frame, the security bolt on the balcony door was lifting the door frame away from the wall. The bath had peeling and cracked paint so could not give the baby a bath, and the air conditioning sounded like a plane taking off. Had a really nice new lcd tv in the room and leaflet said loads of english channels, but oh no one channel.sky news and that was it. Best of all babys cot was supposed to be mothercare approved.yeah right.it has bolts sticking out the sides, although this was replaced when we complained, but why was it left like that anyway? In the bar by the pool, so many accidents because of cheap plasic chairs, and did not expect to be the hotel nurse on my week off, patching up a poor chap who cut his head open falling off a chair. They had no first aid kit behind the bar, no-one to help and not a rep in sight. however the rooms were cleaned every day, but bedding only once a week. If i could have got on a plane any earlier i would have been gone, and i only went for a week. The entertainment was ok,zorro is a funny guy but did not make this holiday any better. There is nothing near the hotel, no shops, only a spar so getting any baby supplies was mission impossible, and when we did find some the prices were a joke. However, across from the hotel was a really nice resturant that do fab fish, best meal we had all week. the beach was also really nice. Really wish i could have enjoyed this holiday, looked forward to it for most of the year.

"1st, 2nd but not a 3rd?"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

We have just returned after a 2nd consecutive year and everyone especially the kids had a great time. Our group consisted of 2 families 4 Adults and 5 kids whose ages ranged from 10 - 17. The pluses of this hotel far outweigh the negatives but I will try and give some useful feedback. The Hotel & Beach Club is in an ideal location right next to the beach so everything is close to hand and you do feel that the Kids are safe. We all found the food to be very good with plenty of choice even for the fussy ones. Most Lunchtimes we chose to go up to the Restaurant but if you just wanted a quick snack then the Western Saloon was ok. Most importantly the Restaurant hygiene must be of a high standard as for the 2nd year running no one had any tummy trouble! Read some moans about the lack of lifts and this can be a problem if you don't like a bit of exercise. The rooms themselves are a bit basic but how much time do you spend in them, would agree that the Hotel could do we a bit of an overhaul. If you have never been before then the daytime & evening entertainment is excellent. We still enjoyed the daytime activities but did struggle a bit in the evening as it was nearly identical from the year before. Its fine if you have never been especially Boogie Night but the Children's Disco does become a bit of a struggle. Found the Thomson entertainers, if that's what you can call them false but the Hotel entertainers lead by Zorro was as good as ever. Zorro and his team of Oli, Chris and the lovely Eva are a credit to this hotel though I understand that this might be Zorro's last year so hurry if you don't want to miss out. We found that all the staff worked very hard and found them all from the Cleaners, Bar Staff, Restaurant staff and Receptionists to be very friendly. Overall this is a great place for a family holiday and its seems as popular as ever judging by the amount of families that return year in year out. Our kids are desperate for us to return again next year but we will be looking to try somewhere else but may well return again one day. One final tip, avoid Jose's Slippery Nipples. The guy is a top bloke and all his team are great fun but he nearly finished me off on Boogie night with his famous mixture, beware you have been warned!

"dissapointing"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

To sum it up this hotel would be amazing if it had a makeover. bad stuff: Rooms Dont think these have been done up since hotel was built. Very basic with the oldest air conditioning ive ever seen operated by a key on your front door keys so you can only use it while youre in the room. It was very noisy and ive got more puff in me than the units have. The shower was a trickle but saying that this differed in all the rooms - the inlaws had a power shower!! The rooms wasnt cleaned for the week while we were there which really disappointed me as you can usually rely on thomson for a good clean hotel. When i did request it be cleaned (second to last day) cause we had more sand in our hotel room than on the beach we ended up with a cockroach and half a cockroach body in the bathroom - presumably off the 'clean' mop!! (bare in mind i have a cockroach phobia!!)

Lifts As everyone else mentions there are only 2 lifts in the hotel to take you down to pool level and these always broke down or were full - a nightmare with a buggy which makes me laugh as this is rated as a thomson family hotel!! The ift down to the beach level was even worse and broke down constantly leaving you to carry the buggy down some dodgy stone steps.

Staff Hotel and thomson staff were VERY unhelpful - the air con in our first room broke down. It took a whole day and lots of phonecalls to even get someone to look at it. It couldnt be fixed so then started the fight to change rooms - after about 3 hours and no help from the thomson reps or reception staff we asked to speak to the manager who authorised a room change within 5 minutes!!!

Pools The hotel pool wasnt too bad but the beach club pool was really scummy - by about day 3 of the holiday everyone was walking round with cotton wool in their ears and the resort dr treated LOTS of ear infections

Resort transfer and airport Transfer to the resort was good but on the way home we picked up every man and his dog - people were sitting in the aisles of the coach and what shouldv only taken 30 minutes took us an hour and a half!! We then nearly missed our check in cause we were at the back of the queue which had about 4 different flights with different flight times checking in at the same time. Oh and beware they were very tight charging for overweight baggage!!

Good stuff Resort Very idyllic setting

Food Really good. General restaurant good selection, chinese nice.

Would i go back? prob not

we booked this holiday about 12 weeks ago its the first time we have took our 16 month old daughter abroad, my husband was abit warey of it being like butlins and abit scruffy, but now we have to swap our holidays to family ones, and we wasnt let down at all, i kept saying all week its childrens paradise. as soon as we got there, we went to find our room and everybody was so friendly in helping us. the room was basic but very clean. food was constantly on offer from different restuarants. we were staying in the beach club, and very glad we was even though the facilities were for both hotels, the lifts in the hotel were a nightmare, and everythings on the 8th floor. in the beach club the resturant was very friendly and very helpful, for those who have got children, and we enjoyed every meal complaints were generaly people being picky, and wanting 5 star food and forgetting they were in a forein country. the pool was really clean and good for children, but there was a shortage of sunbeds, so you did have to get up early with your towels. the daytime and evening entertainment was really good, everybody was up dancing at the end of the night, all day adults and children had entertinment. the beach was on your doorstep but be carefull you do get charged for sunbeds! all in all we had a fab time and my daughter loved it, value for money was excellent we didnt spend a penny apart from a paper. we are returning in september, as nothing matches up to the value of this holiday, its the first time we will ever of returned to the same hotel. enjoy it we did!!!
