This hotel is at the bottom of a long winding road in Fencaliente with nothing around it apart from a banana plantation. However we knew this before going. This Hotel is a big complex that is probably 40 -50% occupied most of the year around. It also is has quite steep climbs in parts so could be difficult if you have mobility issues. However it is very clean on the whole, well maintained and the food is excellent. It caters for half board and all inclusive guests but as there are no restaurants or shops in walking distiance I would say all inclusive is the best option unless you are going to explore the island. It was a total rest for myself and my wife.

The Spa is good. We used the facilities on a cloudy morning and only costs 10 euros each for a day pass. Pool towels cost 50cents every time you change and the safe is chargeable at 2 euros per day. Wifi is not currently free and is 6euro for a day, 12 euro for 3 days or 19euros for a week. This gave me a good excuse to turn my phone off and have some quality time with my wife.

There are 11 pools although one is in the 'Relax' area(nudist corner of the hotel). There is a free gym also with the use of a sauna. With the under occupancy of the hotel you can have your pick of a sunbed. It made us laugh that with so many available(I joke not) some people were still resrving. One pool has a beach area around it where most of the sporting activities like volley ball, shooting , archery etc take place. There is always something you can do. The annimation team work very hard.

The restaurant is above the reception area and I would say there is enough choice for even fussy eaters to find something. You can also get a 'Sleepy Head' buffet breakfast at La Chosa which overlooks the sea between 9 to 10:30 if you fancy a lie in. They do good omlettes there. There is also a pool bar which is mainly geared for all inclusive guest to help yourself to coffee, beer and soft drinks. You can get most drinks here that you can get from the main bar in reception / disco bar and sandwiches. There is also a pizza / burger restaurant in the pool complex that you can use during the day if you don't fancy going to the main restaurant.

The reception we found friendly and helpful.. Be aware that a lot of bar staff speak very little english but know enough to get you a drink but try asking for one glass with ice and one without you get blank looks. One of the guys was patient and taugth me the Spanish for this so it was easy from then on...

All in all this is a complex for a complete hassle free relax or a base for exploring the island

In general most services and facilities are good, however we had major issues with drinks. As an All-Inclusive resident you are made to feel like a second class citizen being served with sub-standard cocktails while the paying customers next to you are served with 'proper' cocktails i.e. a Pina Colada for an All-Inclusive customer came from a pre mixed bottle and was not a Pina Colada while a Pina Colada for a paying customer was freshly mixed and was indeed actually a Pina Colada. Additionally, it was very clear that paying guests were served before All-Inclusive guests!

We went as a party of 8, 4 adults and 4 kids, therefore when we ordered drinks we generally ordered between 4 and 8, on numerous occasions we were made to feel that this was not acceptable and even had a case where a barman walked away before the order was fulfilled.

We have been on numerous All-Inclusive holidays with First Choice and this is the first time that we were made to feel like second class guests.

Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location is fabulous and the evening entertainment is very good. The animacion team were excellent and Jay the Rep was very knowledgeable about the island and helpful when one of our party injured his foot, some of the bar staff were very pleasant, although these were the minority and the bars were woefully understaffed. The chef Alfonso was outstanding and on top of being a great cook, took the time of teaching us how to order our food in Spanish as he prepared it.

This was our second visit to this hotel and we have come home and booked again for next year ! La Palma princess provides everything we need for a fun and relaxing holiday. My family enjoyed taking part in the organised daytime activities such as football and volleyball. The hotel staff and animation team were friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. Plenty of variety of food and drink. Excellent facilities all round. Any issues or problems were dealt with promptly. Our only complaint was that some of the pool bars and a snack restaurant was closed this year that had been open last year, meaning that there were very long queues and waiting for lunch food and we couldn't get drinks near the activity pool. We really hope these will be open next year. Our group was made up of families with children aged between 4 and 16 and there was plenty for all ages. Can't wait for next year !

This is the second time we have stayed here. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. This is an excellent holiday if you want to do very little and really relax. With a choice of so many pools we managed to find a quite stop away from playing children. I also used the gym several times. Although there is no treadmill and it is quite small it doesnt need to be anything bigger as most of the time i had it to myself. Some of the evening entertainment was not great but we still had a good time, and the animation team were very good.

We chose this hotel as a change from teneriffe, and were very pleased we did as it was so quiet. We went 1st two weeks in june 2013 and had a great time doing nothing much, just sitting round one of the many pools. Made some good freinds as well (most had been before and I would not hesitate to go back). Jay the thomson rep was excellent (lives on the island) and was very pleasant and helpfull. The day trip around the island is a must and well worth doing - the guide (rudi) has lived on la palma for 20 years and what he didnt know about the place could be written on a postage stamp. Food was acceptable - we have had better but had a lot worse too, plenty of choice good pizzas by the pool, hot/cold drinks, spirits etc.Rooms clean and tidy with fridge, super walk in shower and bath as well. Dont go if you like lots to do, this island is unspoilt and how I imagine teneriffe was 50 years ago.

wow what can i say?! This place is amazing! me and my boyfriend went here for a week and it was our first holiday together ... it was perfect! when we arrived to check in the queue was very long but the staff at reception were very good and it went down quick enough. The hotel put some food on especially as the manchester flight arrives in late we had a suite sea view room, it is absolute luxury! massive king size bed, sofa, chair, two bathrooms!!, another living room area and double balcony defo worth the extra money the pools were massive and there were lots of sunbeds we went to the pool about 10 o clock every morning and had no trouble finding sunbeds some people were complaining about the amount of flies around the hotel but there was nothing the staff could do about this as they were constantly cleaning and clearing away finished food as much as they could lots of daytime entertainment if you wanted it, wasnt pushed into it if you didnt want to do it and the entertainment team were very good evening entertainment wasnt bad and started at 10 every night and finished by 11 bar was open from 10am till midnight every day and the pizzeria which was very good open 11am - 6pm, could eat in the pizzeria or take away all in all an excellent holiday ... brilliant for relaxing and doing nothing for the whole week! i thoroughly enjoyed it!

"A quiet, relaxing location"

Beautiful landscaped grounds featuring waterfalls, about 11 swimming pools, plenty of sunbeds and space. Excellent variety of food for all mealtimes- something for everyone including children. Exceptionally clean both in the rooms and pool areas. Lovely sea front aspect with spectacular sunsets over the Atlantic. Not much for older children to do - kids club attracted ages 4-7 and there were no feature pools as there are in the Holiday Villages. A great place to relax for a week as a family.

Very comfortable hotel with excellent pools. Unfortunately it is situated at the bottom of a very long climb to Fuencaliente. It must only be 500m vertically, but 3km by the zigzag road to the village. Apart from the hotel there is very little to do in the area. It was great for a week's chill-out holiday in early March 2013, but the previous week had been a total washout (so we were told). I am very glad I wasn't there for that week! It must be dire when the weather is bad. In-house entertainment varied from dreadful to excellent. Four out of seven nights it was above average to excellent, the other three we left early, it was that bad. Food was good, but never quite hot enough. It always seemed lukewarm despite the heat lamps. We won't be going back to La Palma.

"All Inclusive or Not"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Below Average

This is in fact not 1 hotel but 2 hotels sharing all the facilities. i.e. Pools, restaurants, bars, spa, kids club, etc. therefore 247 rooms as stated in brochure is actually 625 rooms. All inclusive clients are treated as second class citizens having a separate cramped and dingy dining area and not receiving waiter service. They do not have tea/coffee making facilities in room, not have minibar, not have safety deposit box, not have access to themed restaurant, not have Wifi even though all these facilities are available at an extra charge. The restaurant food however is the bigest let down of this hotel being bland, pre cooked, and luke warm most of the time. The hotel is in a remote location and is on a large hilly site meaning it is only suitable for the fitest of clients.

Hugh complex with plenty of space to lounge around. Hotel very clean and well looked after although a couple of area,s could do with some TLC. Pools and pool area's are clean and well designed although the tiles on the walkways could be very slippery when wet. Staff very pleasant and generally helpful, however some staff need to learn how to smile. The gardens are are well kept. The hotel is built on a side of a hill and getting around could prove to be difficult to those of you with walking issues. Food was plenty full and very good, served buffet fashion, but to some people could be same old same old. The rooms are in 2 storey blocks and some of these blocks are a distance from the main reception and restaurants and could prove to be an issue in bad weather. I our case the weather was fantastic and would certainly go back again.

Excellent hotel set in beautiful sub tropical gardens with lots of swimming pools to choose from. All located in a quiet and peaceful location. The food was good with plenty variety to suit all tastes. You can either relax at the bar for a drink or sit outside on the terrace and listen to the chilled music they play, very soothing. The hotel excelled in making our holiday very special. We will definately be back!

"Suitable for adults who want to relax"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

The very remote location of the hotel means that it is really only suited to folk who want to relax, do nothing and go nowhere. I wouldn't recommend it for those with children because apart from the pools there is nothing really for them to do. The week before we went, and for the first couple of days of our week, the weather was very poor and folk with children really struggled. Eventually we were lucky and the sun came out though.
