"los ficus"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Have stayed here a total of 8 times over the past 9 years, was last there November '09, only problem we have ever had was glass in the mouse/strawberry whip desert which obviously was accidental but none of the staff or our rep were interested in looking in to or removing the other dish's from serving area to prevent any one else dating it or god forbid a small child. Other wise is a lovely place to stay and the female Spanish waitresses and car staff are friendly and really nice. Shame they stopped using pool car during day, now have to Que and wait for someone in dining area to unlock cupboard to pour a drink, unless you drink beer, tea or coke.

"Fiscus needs to focus"
Overall Hotel Rating:
It should not be classed as a hotel. the prices for international drinks outwith the hotel were ridiculous 3.50 euros for fosters, san miquel, carling stella and to be truthful it did not taste like i remember it back home. Went AI and to be honest the food was good, but we ate out most of the time just to get away from the hotel.
I woke up in the 1st morning at 6am and thought the hotel was for germans only as virtually every sun lounger had the towel laid on it, quickly realised it was our cousins from england that were snatchin the loungers tut tut. Couldnt beleive the amount of parents( who were intoxicated with alcohol) who let their young children play outside the bar area at night unsupervised, anyone could access the hotel and potentially take a child (frightening). Dont these parents remember what happened in portugal 3 years ago!!!

"An Honest Review - Not Great"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Well - we were expecting to be greeted by Basil Fawlty when we first arrived. Not what we are used to or what we were really expecting (based on what we viewed on the internet). Very small reception area with only a 2/3 tables and a few chairs - if the weather is not good enough to sit outside, this would be the only indoor area for guests to sit during the day and it would only accommodate around 10/12 people. There is a toilet in that area that stinks - you can smell this within the reception area!
NO POOL BAR - or any bar available during the day - we thought this was really bad seeing as we had booked an 'all inclusive' holiday. If you want an alcoholic drink (spirits) before 5 pm you have to go into the restaurant, wait for a waitress to spot you, and they will get you what you want from a locked cupboard - it's quite hard work and often not worth the hassle. However, the soft drinks and lager are available on a self-service basis from the restaurant all day.
The restaurant - not enough seats for everyone, often queuing and waiting to get in. Food ok, bit repetitive (especially lunchtimes). We were told by our rep that there would be 2 'theme' nights during our stay, 1 chinese, 1 mexican - the chinese was only ok, nothing to rave about (not much choice) and the mexican night never happened!
The bar/conservatory opens at 5 pm - again, not enought seats to accommodate everyone so if you want to sit in there all night you need to have dinner early and go straight there to get a table. I can't imagine why anyone would want to sit in there all night but that's just my opinion. The entertainment was provided by the Thomas Cook animation team - they did their best but it wasn't really for us - standing up all night watching 3 people sing and attempt to dance is not my idea of fun! However, on a positive note regarding the bar, once it does open the range of drinks available is very good. All local spirits and liquors available and nice. Beer not bad. Small plastic glasses only so if you like a few drinks be prepared to go back to the bar fairly often. Queues sometimes but never any longer than 3/4 minutes. Only 1 toilet just outside the bar/conservatory area, 1 further one (the smelly one) in the reception area only.
Rooms were adequate - twin beds, no doubles. Not much to say really, we've had better.
Pool area ok - again, not enough space or sunbeds to go around - you'd need to be up around 8 am to put your towels on to reserve loungers. Very cramped.
Location not great, a 5 minute walk to the bottom of the road to a Spa shop and a few bars - it was like a ghost town when we were there (mid July), hardly anyone around. A further 5 minute walk to a few more restaurants and bars, but again, nothing too exciting and everywhere empty.
We booked a trip (20 Euros each) - the Short South Tour, it lasted 5 hours and for 4 of them we were sat on a coach looking out of the windows.
Overall, not the best holiday we've ever had - for what we paid we were expecting a lot more and we weren't impressed with Costs Teguise at all. It was hot but very windy every day - this was sometimes a relief but often a pain! When asked in a survey on the way home 'what could we do to improve' my husband wrote 'you can't polish a tu*d'!!! Needless to say, we wouldn't recommend this resort or accommodation.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

"Great Value for money"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just come back from the Ficus, after reading bad reports we were very surprised what a lovely place it was. The food was good and hot, the rooms were clean and the staff were very friendly. The entertainment team were very energetic. The pool was freezing Very windy so would recommnend you take a few carrdigans or hoodies.

"Good "
Overall Hotel Rating:
Myself and a friend have just got back from the Ficus. Overall it was a good holiday, thankfully all we wanted to do was to chill out, with the entertainment, we had no choice but to chill out in our room or go for an evening walk to let the dinner go down! (very windy this time of year and definitely need a cardigan!). The food, well despite reading previous reviews we were expecting a lot worse. It was chips at brekkie, lunch and dinner but you didnt have to eat that! Brekkie, you could have a fry up each day if you wanted which was very nice, choice of cereals & fruit, danish pastries/toast/bread rolls (always available). Lunch, there was salad, various meat dishes with rice/potatoes/veggies, bread rolls, various meats & cheese. Dinner, very much the same as lunch, I am quie a fussy eater and managed to find something to eat on each night. Vegetable lasagne, spag bol, chicken, rice, potatoes. There was always ice cream and angel delight type thing, fruit sponges etc. On the details given at check in, it states the room is cleaned 4 times a week, we only had it cleaned twice and the towels only changed once! The beds in our room was quite hard but I suffer from a bad back and seemed to be ok. The most amusing thing is pool etiquette! People putting their towels out at 6.30am, very sad! It was only 10 mins walk to the beach so we went down there every day, it was 8 euros for 2 beds & parasol. The water is very cold but what can you expect being the Atlantic! It doesnt really warm up in summer apparently either so be warned! Once you are in it is very refreshing and revitalising!! The most disappointing part of the accomodation was the lack of selection of alcoholic drinks, no cocktails so ended up going down the road for a cocktail or too for just over 5 euros! I would recommend these apartments for those who just want basic accomodation but want a good variety of food and entertainment go self catering! saying that we paid less than £500 and certianly got value for money.

"That was Great"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel was very good fora 3 star hotel the rooms where basic but very clean and roomy. The hotel staff where all helpfull and friendly, the dining room was small but was run efficiently so there was little wait for the tables... i loved the toaster! Its not your normal all inclusive where everything was waiting there for you but if you ask the staff nothing was to much trouble and overall the holiday was great. There where two cats on the site they where very friendly and they where both pregnant so look out for the new kittens!

"poor"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This our second visit, vast difference this time from the last time, pool bar now closed which means allthough you can get your own beer, should you want a spirit, you have to find a member of staff to open a locked cupboard. The food was generally poor unless you like chips, which we had with our gala meal at christmas. The room was always clean, staff friendly, just a shame management are trying to cut costs, with food and drink when you have paid top price to get there. Dont go unless its an absolute bargain pricewise, we will not return again, which is a shame as the first time we went we really enjoyed it.

"Great holiday at the Ficus"
Overall Hotel Rating:
My husband and I have just returned from a two week holiday at the Ficus and cant complain about anything. You get what you pay for, but have to say we were impressed with the varierty of food available, I am a veggie and managed to eat every night. The entertainment was brilliant, would go back again next year for a bit of winter sun.

"Value for money"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Spent 2 weeks at the ficus in November. Staff friendly the Thomas Cook entertainment team Lynne and Steve do their best to make sure you have a good time. The food could be better it was usually chicken or pork but you could always find something to eat, it wasn't always hot but there was a microwave you could use to warm it up. The area it was in is a little rundown but there are some nice areas within walking distance. There were one or two bars for young ones to go after the all in drinks were finished. The rep said the cleaners came 5 days a week but in fact they only come 4 wasn't very impressed with that. You have to pay to hire the tv 3 euros for 24 hours which is a bit of a rip off as you only probably watch it for about 2 hours. All in we had an enjoyable holiday although some people were very miserable, come on you were supposed to be on holiday what does it take to say good morning. If you want a cheap holiday and get it for the right price I would say go for it and see for yourself.

"absolutely awfull"
Overall Hotel Rating:
the hotel was average, the food was awful and the variety and quality was realy terrible, it was a discrace me and my girl friend ate out every night apart from 1. they have pork every night and chips are all they offer as a snack through out the day. we lived on eggs and beans for breakfast all week.... i did not like the serve yourself on the soft drinks aswell.
the towels and ben linen were only changed twice a week, the kettle was provided but without the lead to opperate it which we had to rent for 1 euro per day. the television was also 3 euros per day which was terrible.it says its a 3 star hotel which i think is aload of rubbish. the ficus is best suited fo people with no taste buds ... i would encourage people to steer well away from this hotel.

"Value for money and friendly"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The appartment we stayed in was spacious and clean with a double bedroom, lounge area with spare bed under sofa and a kitchen area. Maid service every day except Sunday and this was the only day pool man not there either, towels and sheets changed 3/4 times a week but if you put towels you needed changing in the bath they did so ( we had a young child who had an accident). Food was in my opinion very good, cooked breakfast with continental alternatives, eggs and pancakes cooked on an flat hob by staff in front of you, this was also used at main meals to cook fillets of meat or fish. Chips, pasta and a rice dish at all meals but all sauces separate so if like us you have fussy kids it was easy to feed them. Theme nights in restaurant mexican and chinese even a carvery on Sunday. No kids club but we dont use them but their was kids entertainment mini disco and some games to join inround the pool, I felt that Mike Leanne and Billy worked very hard to entertain everyone and put no pressure on anyone who didn't want to join in. I would recomend a taxi over transfers as it was only about 20 euros and we beat the crush to book in and also at airport an way home. The only negative thing is having to save a sunbed by about 9am at latest, some people out at 5.30am to get theirs! but I haven't done a holiday yet when I haven't had to save a sunbed and we were there in main weeks this is only a small negative.
