"A Wonderful Holiday"

We have now stayed at the Coronas Player twice and hope to go back again next year. Both these occasions have been during the Easter break as my wife works in a school, which limits the periods that we can get away. In our opinion, it is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The fact that it is a Thomson Gold and has no children is for us ideal. The hotel is very clean and all the rooms are delightfully spacious with many of them facing the pool areas or sea. The restaurant is excellent, offering a good variety of food with themed evenings. Initially we weren't too sure about the evening entertainment since it can be a bit loud, but we decided that the best thing to do was to embrace the holiday atmosphere and we soon found ourselves enjoying it. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. As an example, my wife, who is a diabetic, asked if they had any sugar free marmalade. They did not, but Alberto the headwaiter obtained a jar the next day for her. The entertainment team are also brilliant. This year we had Andy and Jo. They both worked extremely hard keeping us amused all day long. There seems to be people of all ages. We are in our mid fifties and came here first in 2007 just after the children had left home. We had long forgotten what it was like to be together by our selves again, so this lovely hotel gave us the ideal opportunity to discover each other once again.

A pleasent resort but not much to do. We took the bus to the capital Arrecife which has more shops. The island as a whole seems fairly quiet at Easter with a limited number of things to do. This didn't worry us since we go for the relaxation, food, sun and ...

Just back from spending my 40th birthday in this hotel and also Christmas and New Year. We waited a long time for this holiday and it was everything we wanted it to be. The Hotel was excellent. We stayed in a garden suite which was massive and we had a terrace with sunbeds and a table and chair on it. The terrace was sheltered and caught the afternoon sun. We had a few of the dreaded cockroaches in the room though and I think this was due to being right on the ground floor, as other guests we spoke to did not have any. However a little bit of charades with Lola the chambermaid and she left a massive tin of anti cockroach stuff and the problem was solved.

The pools were great and we tended to use the bottom pool as it was near our room, this is the one with the Thomson Gold reps providing the exercise and entertainment - however it wasnt intrusive and if you didnt want to join in there was no pressure. The reps worked long and hard hours - even appearing on xmas day and brought HM Queen with them -well done guys!

The restaurant was excellent - the food was plentiful and varied. The Xmas and New Year Gala dinners were fabulous, lobster, caviar, goose pate, king prawns as well as the usual turkey, beef etc. However the dress code which was supposed to be formal left a lot to be desired - my husband had carted his dinner suit all the way there as this was the norm in previous hotels over the festive season, however on Xmas day there were 4 dinner suits and a few normal suits and New Years Eve there were even less. This was disappointing that people didnt seem bothered to make the effort with many of the men not even wearing a tie.

The entertainment in this hotel was poor - mostly it took place in the Pavillion which is a tent with windows and poor acoustics. The Thomson reps were ok but the resident duo The Score were awful and couldnt keep a note. This wouldnt usually bother us as we like to sit on the terrace/balcony on the evening but the tent was not soundproofed so we could not escape the howling of The Score who were on every night. There were some good shows on but they were only on for an hour or so between 10 and 11. We enjoyed the Beatles on Xmas eve and Abba on New Year's eve. The alternative is the Monkey Bar which is ok they usually had a guitarist on who was fine but seemed to play the same songs each time he was there!

The staff in this hotel were all excellent and nothing was too much trouble. A few days before we arrived there had been torrential rain and as a result of this the door to our room became warped causing us problems trying to open it when it dried out. We got the maintenance chap who came immediately and ended up taking the door off its hinges and planing it all down - all done with a smile. On Xmas day my husband lost his wedding ring in the pool but we did not notice it until xmas night - the next morning after more charades with the man who cleaned the pool he found the wedding ring and successfully fished it out using some big suction hoover thingy! Both just show that it is not only the front line staff in this hotel who are helpful.

There are a lot of cats roaming around -this is fine if you like cats. they do seem to be clean and well cared for (not like some of the mangy old things i have seen in other hotels) and many of them have been neutered, suggesting that the hotel is trying to keep the numbers down!

The weather was mixed while we were there but it only rained at night and not much. The sun didnt start to get warm till about 10am but most days it was in the 70s, although we found it chilly at night and I really should have taken a thicker cardigan or a jacket.

Costa Teguise itself is nice and some of it is quite traditional looking. The main beach Las Cucharas is about 15 minutes away from the hotel and seems clean enough, however the sunbeds and parasols appeared dirty and tatty so we just used our towels and sat on the sand. We had lunch a couple of times in El Mar restaurant - watch out for the garlic prawns or mushrooms - while very nice they are loaded with garlic and chilli Im sure it was a whole bulb of garlic in there. The food and service in this restaurant was very good and reasonable priced. Went to a couple of Irish bars and found them both overpriced one being The Snug and the the other Flanigans. Could never get served in the Lighthouse as it was so busy. Best bar we thought was Dickens next to the hotel - lots of character, good table service and reasonable prices.

All in all this was a great holiday in a great hotel a real chill out. Dont let tales of OAPS put you off - the couple next to us were in their late 70s and we had such a laugh with them, Im sure they could drink us under the table as well! We met loads of nice people of all ages and not a screaming kid in sight - absolute bliss.

We will be back.

Enjoyed a weeks holiday over the new year Food excellent-good choices Entertainment good-reps Charlie& Monkey worked very hard Only downside was the location and lack of facilities in the Garden Suites-quite a distance from restaurant and bars-no tea or coffee making facilities-you had to hire a kettle( limited no for hire) would suggest you order a superior room where all this plus bathrobes, slippers and wine & fruit on arrival Found the hotel to be cheaper than the bars across the road Costa Teguise as improved since our last visit coast road now accessible Visit the INN Place bar on the coast road very friendly food o.k. watch out for the shops selling cameras, watches etc, tend to keep you in the shop offering all sorts of discounts esp in the shopping centre in Teguise If you go on excursions cheaper to use Last Minute excursions in Teguise Overall would return to this hotel bit different rooms.

Just returned from an 11 nights holiday at the Coronas. Before going i spent alot of time looking at reviews and found them very useful. Thought i would give our reviews on the Coronas to help anyone who might be thinking of booking to go.

Firstly when i booked a Thomson Gold holiday one of my reservations was that we would be in a hotle with everyone over the age of 55 (no disrespect to those people thought everything would be geared towards just them. This was not the case there were a very wide mixed range of ages which was great to see. We have also holidayed every year with children around and at home our working lives involve children so we wondered how having no children around would affect us............it was fantastic. No kids screaming or misbehaving, it was a highlight for us and when we arrived at the airport to come home it was a bit of a culture shock.

Alot of the reviews here i agree with -

- the rooms are very large. We had room 521 which was over the top pool. This we found boring during the day as the top pool is very quiet. A sun bathers haven but the day we spent around the top pool we were scared to speak so we headed down to the bottom pool. In the evening the room was near the entertainment which we didnt mind the noise and it ends around 11.30 anyway. For a very small minimal charge you can get all english tv channels and sky sports and movies...well worth it for us. The fridge in your room is free and is great to have. There is a netto across the road but its not cheap for some things but is for others but handy for bits for the fridge.

- the dining room. We found the food to be very good. The long trousers rule for the 11 nights we were there was enforced and no one was allowed in there with shorts not even 3/4 shorts for the men. I do have to say though that jeans were allowed for men which for us was not a problem. One things we did find very useful was that on the first night of everyones holiday you wonder what to do in the dining room but this isnt a problem at the Coronas because you are greeted by the manager on the first evening and taken in the dining room to have the process explained. Although slightly embarressing very useful.

- reception was all english speaking which was great. This area we are used to being very grand but it is quite small at the Coronas but guess you're not spending your holiday in there. We went to reception one day to enquire about a car and within half an hour they'd called the hire company who had collected us and we were off site seeing so the service was great.

- Weather was very strange i have to say. We had a few days were the sun was out first thing in the morning but other when it didnt come out until 1 in the afternoon but the breeze some days was there but others it was more like a wind. Again for us not a problem but beware you do not realise you are burning.

- Pools. The Coronas has 2 pools the top pool for sun worshippers and the bottom pool for people who may want to have some fun or may just like some back ground noise but you do not have to join in and the issue is not forced upon you. The pools are very clean but there is one problem with them and when i was there i was amazed that no one had said this on a reviews......they are both very cold. The water is freezing and i'd like to say that it warmed up as the day went on but it didn't. Apparently its to do with the water being natural water and not heated but for us was a slight downside to the holiday as we like to spend alot of time in the pool but there was no chance of that. The holiday reps did the usual things like aqua aerobics, water polo, table tennis, killer dates, bowls and a daily quiz which at times was entertainingly competative. The team of Ad's, Ben, Mel and Gareth did all they could and a well done to them. They are a friendly bunch of people and were up for a laugh. The cats people mention were not a problem at the bottom pool they were at the top pool were after being told by notices not to feed them some people still did so its there own fault if they hung around them.

- Entertainment. This is done in the pavillion in the evenings. The Thomson Gold reps mentioned above along with the resident band of Les and Lesley - The Score started off the evening and then there were other individuals came in. I have to say at times it was a little like Phoenix Nights but it was something to laugh about afterall you are on holiday and should'nt take things so seriously all the time. Some people did the usual moaning but you can't please everyone all of the time but the guys did there best to please.

Lanazorte is a lovely island and we hired a car and went out to have a look around the place. A must is a trip to see the volcanos which we did in the car. The trips with Thomson looked quite expensive but they normally are when you are on holiday so check out other peoples views before booking them. Costa Teguise isn't a very large resort but is pleasant and from the hotel you can access it by a walk along the promenade which takes about 10-15 mins.

One tip - when you get in your room read your hotel information. DO NOT close the balcony door or you'll get locked out.

All in all we had a fab holiday. I feel that the hotel is a 4* hotel and has just the few little added personal things to make it a Thomson Gold. I have no other Thomson Gold to compare it to but intend to try some of the others. I don't think i'd go here for 2 weeks unless you are sun worshippers and intend doing not alot but for us and it being our first time there a week wouldn't have been enough so feel we had it about right. If you want to relax in a nice hotel with nice surroundings, nice friendly and helpful people then the Coronas is the place to go. Would i go again? Not had very many holidays were i would say i'd go back but would go back to the Coronas but for a week now we've been once and to chill out and enjoy a nice peaceful relaxing time away from the kids which belive me is a fantastic.
