We've stayed at Las Gaviotas twice in the past six months and have thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The first time we were placed in Block 3 which was an excellent location for both the pool and the beach. We did request the same block the second time but unfortunately were placed in Block 7 - not too much more of a walk to the beach etc but on a main road so not as much privacy. Have always found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant and although the bungalows are pretty basic they are adequate for a week lazing around in the sun. Can't comment on the food at the complex as we were self catering both times we stayed.

Loads of places to eat in Matagorda, especially Irish restaurants for some reason - would thorougly recommend the Kinsale restaurant at nearby CC Jameos - fabulous fillet steaks and lovely people. If you want something a bit more lively then Puerto Del Car...

This is a large complex. We were in Green Bay (area 7) and unfortunately were directly facing out onto a main bus route. It was noisy most of the time but earplugs helped. Complex not far from airport but the planes stopped overnight.

Apartments are very well equiped and maids come in every day. Try and get your travel agent to book one of the quieter sites here.

Quite a few nice shops and only a 30 minute walk into Puerto Del Carmen.

I have just come back from a fantastic holiday in Lanzarote. There is something for everybody and I cant imagine anybody not having a good time there.

We went allocation on arrival and stayed at Los Gaviotas. To be honest we were not convinced when we got there. Matagorda looks like a residential area and it is very quiet. We were looking for more of a lively holiday, but the bungalows were lovely very clean and honestly the best self-catering accomodation I have stayed in.
We stayed in Block2, apt 12. There was a decent sized pool between the 12 apts and beach is literally 30seconds away. Maid service was good, only problem we had was that out boiler whistled but that was easily remedied by only turning it on when we needed hot water!
Weather was beautiful even thought we only went at the end of April and there is always a good wind to keep u cool.

Matagorda is very quiet and great for chilling out, the livelier Puerto Del Carmen is not too far away in a taxi about 5 mins (3euros 50) or its about a 1hour walk, which sounds a lot but is actually quite a nice walk.
For those wanting lively go to Centro Atlantico in Puerto Del Carmen tonnes of bars and is real fun and lively.
The only problem we had was with PR's trying to drag you into bars, but hey thats their job!
Best place to eat is an Irish bar/restraunt called Kinsale. The food was out of this world and it was a really lovely place to eat. Its in Los Poscillos which is between Matagorda and P.D. Carmen, but if you follow the beach round from Matagorda you will find it, cant recommend more highly.
For those who think it's Lanzagrotty I can only think that they had their eyes closed to this beautiful island there is so much to do and see. I will be back as soon as have saved up again! Fantastic.

one warning we booked with PACKYOURBAGS.COM . When we booked we were told it was an all inclusive holiday, but when we eventually got our booking confirmation the day before we went away, they had booked us as self-catering and we had a mad panic rushing to lend money to eat out there. When we complained we were told it must have been our misunderstanding and we should have realised we wouldnt get a holiday that cheap for the price we paid. It was not our mistake.

food is very reasonable there i can't recomend la dolce vita italian restaurant strongly enough. the food there is outstanding for very good prices, and very good service too!! ate twice next door to that in la brassa, but was disapointed both times, by service, food and prices.
drinks in lanzarote are expensive, and don't get sucked into the 2-4-1 thing.
a very good disco bar with good music, a good age range, and really fair prices is TROPICAL. fantastic cocktails and very good waiter service and bar staff.

another good night out is SCOTTIES irish comedy bar, and also LADY MUCKS, a comedy drag show.
don't waste anytime going to Arricefe (the capital) as theres not a lot there. no culture, or architecture to speak of. if the weather is a bit off, take a taxi or bus to playa honda to a shopping centre called DEILILAND, it has a 10 pin bowling precint.

on the whole i thought lanzarote was in desperate need od a good old scrub, and can totally understand its nickname lanzagrotty. and believe me, i'm not a moany hole that whinges but apart from rowdy underage drinkers, there really is not a lot on offer here. sorry

This complex has 7 - 8 blocks , some a distance from reception and the beach.
* Make sure you pick block 1/2/3/4 as these are the nearest to the beach
If you have kids pls specify the block that has a kiddy section of the pool as only 2 of these blocks are suitable for younger kids.
Towels are changed only every 3 days which I thought was not enough.
If you have block 1/2 make sure your are not facing the commercial centre which has a karoke bar.
Rented a car, Island is fabulous especially up north , views are great.
Avoid papayago beach which is accessed via a very steep cliff - very dangerous for kids.
Had a great holiday but apartments while great for adults had nothing much for kids to do.
