this hotel is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in, we go on holiday 3 times a year and this was a late quick week but very disappointing the food is awful, cold, left overs with little choice although we did notice the choice increased towards the end of our week when a lot of spanish holiday makers arrived, there were a lot in this hotel the entertainment is non existent but the little there is, is geared towards the spanish, the rooms are ok very basic, our sheets were changed once and we had the same towels for 5 days, although on the surface rooms looked fairly clean they needed a good fettle (as my mum used to say) we went half board and ate out most of the time is was that bad and we felt sorry for the all inclusive guests which seemed to be in the majority not very nice, do not go there you have been warned!
an experience i never want to do again. if i ever went back to lanzarote i would go to playa blanca seems so much nicer there, we had quite a scary flight back ( no ones fault) but the fire department escorted us in and were lined up for us on the runway al...
If you stay self catering you will be fine but the food is awful.
The entertainment is abysmal and it starts so late at night (9.30 to 10) that your kids will be falling asleep before anything happens.

It is okay as a resort but its a bit quite if you have kids - not much for them to do.

It tends to cater for the spanish who are therein abundance and make other tourists feel really unwelcome There are also a million steps within the complexe which is unsutable for anyone with walking difficulties , also you have to walk with your laugage quite abit to your accomadation and this is really ackward if you are getting on a bit we had to help two elderly folk with theres as there was no help from reception at all not nice. personly we wouldnt go back as the spanish infuence put us of a bit .
Nice pools though but again the spanish had these all booked by 9am no hope of getting one so one night we sneaked down to the pool and brought a sun bed up to our balcony HA HA nothing said to us either about it so was happy after that.
About the town they all know when the whites arrive and when you go in to any of the restaurants for the first time you will ge a huge meal with really good service the next time you will get a smaller meal infact Barties was the worst with the steaks on the second night cut in have (crafty or what) .I asked for a bottle of water with ice and lemon and was told they dont do lemon they also didnt do cocktails funny that since its a bar it is also quite expensive dont be fooled by the board outside .Best place to eat is La Brisa good size meals quite cheap .
Matagorda is a nice resort quite but suitable for a peaceful break nice beach and some shops nicer than porta del carmen.
Just returned from a 1 week last minute deal to the Sol Morromar. It was an allocate on arrival so we were very apprehensive, especially with having a little one. I couldn't believe how lucky we were.

The apartments were immaculate and very spacious and the complex is beautifully laid out.
We were self catering, however didn't use the bar or restaurant in complex so cannot comment on this.
I only have 2 grumbles about the apartments...
1. there was no toaster or kettle and having a little one these are fairly essential. However, you could hirer items like this from reception.
2. We were there at the beginning of February and the temperature drops a fair bit at night. Although they do supply a winter blanket it was freezing at night so would recommend super warm night clothes or heaters are available to higher, it is defintitely worth hiring heater!!!
The resort itself although fairly small has all you need. It is about a 10-15min walk to puerto del carmen and its a nice walk along the front.
Food and drink all reasonably priced and if your looking for an English breakfast with real english produce head to Barties. Its actually an Irish bar and an Irish breakfast but it is great and staff are very friendly.
Great holiday, highly recommend resort.
What can I say .... I can't praise the Sol Morromar highly enough. In fact, I have recommended it to loads of folk who all had a great holiday there too. I have only marked the food as "average" as we were self catering and only ate breakfast there once. ...

I have only marked the food as "average" as we were self catering and only ate breakfast there once. We have stayed here 3 years running (going elsewhere in 2007 - big mistake), but will be returning in 2008. The staff, layout of the complex, cleanliness all well above average. Only downside was the evening entertainment which was more geared for kids and finished fairly early. If staying here I would highly recommend paying extra for a sea view room !
Again, cant fault the area of Matagorda, but if you would prefer something livlier there is plenty to do further afield, Puerto Del Carmen within walking distance, with smaller places in between. The Texas Ranch is a good day out too.
