"Playa Blanca in winter"

Overall Resort Rating:

Poor

Open quote

If you're planning a winter holiday in Lanzarote don't go to Playa Blanca. Playa Blanca is too quiet, not much choice of restaurants or bars therefore the prices are high. I've had better frozen TV dinners than some of the food we got out there. 8 euros for a lasagna that you could get at supermarket in UK for £1. Playa Blanca streets do not cater for the disabled - there are very few ramps, even at zebra crossings.

Supermarkets are now very expensive, not only with the exchange rate for the £ but the prices seem to have shot up since our summer holiday this year.

All in all we had a very boring, expensive Christmas and I wish we had stayed at home. I will never return to Playa Blanca and I think I will be holidaying in the UK next summer unless the prices come down.

Think of the smallest and quietest village you know on a Sunday- that's Playa Blanca. The first and last time we use Thomas Cook, it appears in hindsight that their representative sold us the holiday she wanted us to take NOT the holiday we were seeking!

"WHERE TO GO? WHAT TO DO?"

Overall Resort Rating:

This hotel is so far from life I thought we were on Mars. 5kl to the nearest life. Not even an attractive walk if you like that far. Also Gale force winds at this end of the Island. This resort is not for the faint hearted. We had black clouds and gale force winds in July. Yet when we walked the 5kl to town it became a brighter and just a breez. Never again and by the way the spanish we met were attogant and rude. One had the cheek to remind us that this island was spanish and that we should learn the language. You can guess the english words we taught him. Never here again and never in spain, where the sane remain on the plane.

I didn’t like this resort. It’s very spread out and doesn’t have a focal point. The recession has bitten hard. There has clearly been a lot of building work started and abandoned as there are acres of deserted unfinished apartments.

There is a pleasant promenade with restaurants along the sea front and a few bars dotted around. Considering we were therein school holidays there were not many people about.

The location is 'ok'. It is no good for teenagers, but the quietness is good for young families. The location is very quiet, it takes 30 minutes walk to get to town, there are not alot of restaurants or places to go to at night. The nearest restaurants is a 10 minute walk either left or right when you hit the seaside from the hotel. If you turn left, you have a few major hotels, and a longer walk takes you into town, if you turn right, there are a couple of restaurants there which are very nice.

BORING! Limited things to do in the resort - you can cover it in one day. The best thing to do is hire a car and go around the island as the excursion costs are unbelievable. The beaches are really lovely and clean and mostly sandy, cannot rate them highly enough but be prepared to pay for toilets - don't get caught short!

Not a lot happening in playa blanca, most shops closed from our last visit in 2007. We ate out once at an italian (cant remember the name!) and the service was very poor, we sat down at 8.30, our starters came out at 9.15pm, our main course an hour later!!

This resort was so quite. There were lots of restaurants but very few pubs and no clubs. Shopping was also very poor. Most things closed at 11pm. The market was a waste of time not worth the trip to even have a look. There were a couple of Spanish tapas bars. They are the best value and the people are lovely in them. We also visited a nice pizzeria and the young lady was very nice and friendly. This wasnt always the case. The Nags Head. After speaking to the waiter I know were the name came from. He made a mistake with our drinks order and wasnt happy when we asked him to change the drink. Ideal for older couples and possibly honeymooners but not for anyone who likes any sort of nightlife.

He beach nearby was closed following storm damage so the only option was the sunbathe around the pool. Very quiet, but pool could have done with some heating. Weather was hot when there were no clouds. Rained on 3 days!! Overall disappointed. Not really a lively place - no late night clubs. Not impressed with the offering of beaches.

The resort of Playa Blanca was basically OK for us but I would not recommend it for a family beach holiday. The local restaurants are good but the nightlife is very limited. Due the nature of lanzarote the resort is isolated therefore the next resort of Porta del Carmen is a thirty minute bus ride.
