the overall complex is very clean.we stayed all inclusive and found the food to be o.k there was always something to choose from.we booked for sun island next door and after reading some of the reviews where glad to have been moved to sun tropical .first choice had pulled out at the end of april and thomas cook have taken over. the complex was very quiet because of this and quite lacked holiday atmoshere.the rooms where clean and basic and did have an awful smell, maid continued to keep spraying air freshener when asked to stop.beds where hard but managed to get some sleep on them .thomas cook reps worked very hard to entertain and put on some really good shows.there was no shuttle bus available as the hotel had withdrawn it .so the walk to the harbour took twenty minutes.would recomend this holiday village to young families as it did seam to have a lot to offer children.we could of done with somewhere else to have a quiet drink between 8.00 and 9.00 in the evening as all bars except the dome shut so although we didn't have any children with us we had to watch the childrens disco.met some nice people at the hotel and all in all was a nice break.

I believe that first choice are no longer using this resort and that is a good decision. The resort is very tired and needs updating.

"Great village for kids activities!"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

We booked this holiday for the Kids academy element. This was our children's first sun holiday (7 yrs & 4 yrs), so we booked for April when it would be hot enough to sun bathe but not roasting. The hotel is laid out well for families, with low-level rooms around courtyard areas with small pools. However, we were disappointed that all the pools were 1.5m deep, so our children could not go in them without armbands on. Our 7 yr old can swim without armbands, but would not be confident if he could not reach the bottom. The rooms are very clean, although basic and not 4* quality. They need updating with new beds (they were very hard!) However, the main reason we chose this hotel was for the kids activities, and these were outstanding. The In2Action reps work extremely hard, have excellent relationships with the children, and the activities on offer were varied. I will definitely go to another first choice holiday village, as everyone we spoke to their said this was the 'worse' one, and yet we really enjoyed it! I know at the end of this month the hotel changes to Thomas Cook, who are putting it on as 3*. I would agree with this rating, but we had a great holiday.

"A WINTER BREAK"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

It was a great winter break, but would not be for us in the summer months as it really is a place for families. The facilities for children are fantastic and there is a kids team to help keep them ocupied with plenty of fun and games. The reps were very helpful especially tash who went out of her way to sort a problem we had. The resort itself was kept extremely clean and tidy and an extra bonus was the free bus to the beach.

A good 3 star hotel, the food was typical of that in a Spanish hotel although on every night there was something we liked. The main pool was very good and clean; the staff were friendly. The hotel overall was very well kept; the rooms were basic but again the maid service was very good. The location of the hotel was a short walk away from the main town of Playa Blanca or you could catch the free courtesy bus on the hour. The main attraction of this holiday was the enterainment team who managed to keep all the family kids and adults alike entertained day and night, there was always activities, quizzes and events to take part in if you wished. There was also a kids club for the kids wiht planned activities day and night.

For this reason I would recommend this hotel to families and we will definately be looking to book again for the same time next year. The hotel is very relaxing and gives good value for money especially for us who managed to get a free child place.

I found the hotel good and found the staff to be very pleasant the only thing that I wasnt keen on was the food.Although I was self catering I did pay and have breakfast which was good.I struggled at lunch time to find a good eating place.I think they should have more eating places as not everyone is fully exclusive.

"First Choice..Why Are You Leaving Here!?"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

This hotel is brilliant, we stayed here (myself, my fiance and our 18 month old son) We had no complaints at all! We paid a very good price for the holiday and got much more then we expected from it. Everyone was friendly, areas were clean, nice spacious apartment with toaster, microwave and coffee machine in it. All inclusive food, was very much the same as other places I have been, but hey, if you dont want to eat at the hotel, go self catering! Simples! We just thought with the Euro as poor as it is, it would save us money in the long run! We had a ground floor room, which was perfect as we had the buggy for our little man. As everyone has said, grab yourself a back gate key as it does make the walking time to the town and beach quicker. Others have said its not far, I thought it was...took us about half hour to stroll there..maybe just me being lazy! Lots of shops there to mooch about in and places to have a coffee lunch or just an ice cream. Lovely town and lovely beach for making sand castles and going for a paddle! Be careful walking along the front, the waves splash over the side onto the pavement, much to our sons surprise, he was woken up in his buggy by a crashing wave as we walked along! Whoops! Sun Tropical is a very family orientated hotel, great for people with young kids! The entertainment would have been great, but the dome, which many people have mentioned is just too loud! Honestly, we had to leave as it was so noisy it made our son cry, bless him! So we gave that a miss most nights. Shame as the shows they put on always seemed good with lots of effort put in. Theres a shop in the food center..pricey, but very handy to pick any little bits up you need, like milk, if you fancy a coffee or tea on the terrace once the kids are in bed! (We took a lot of bits with us...nappies, ready made baby dinners, tea, coffee etc) All in all a really great holiday. First Choice are leaving this hotel and going to another one, on the island...not sure why, as this place, with a few minor tweaks could be a big winner! We loved it anyways! O, and the beds...We didnt find them that uncomfortable, we slept easily enough in them! Hope you all have happy holidays this year! xxx

I did not get to see as much of Playa Blanca but we did go to the new marina which i beautiful, there are lots of lovely resturants over looking the harbour which offer a fantastic range of foods and excellent service

We also went to the local Market which runs every Wednesday and Saturday which is good to see! There is another market in Lanzarote that is bigger and better in a different resort (I forget the name but you can find out from your rep) but i thought that 19 euros to go to this was a bit expensive! I would recommend getting a car if there is more than one of you to explore it is alot easier and cheaper method of travel! the roads are well marked and easy enough to drive along.

There is a few clubs in playa blanca but i never got to see them being more than happy with the hotel! There is also a animal park that would suite kids

Another thing i noticed is there were lots of cyclists in Lanzarote they would explore the mountains and volcanos or get the ferry to Fueteventura to cycle there too!

"Nice break but no more hotel"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

As per other reviews this hotel was clean and (mostly) comfortable but could do with a bit of a spruce up. However as First Choice is about to end their time at this hotel this was not to happen. Otherwise a very good value last-minute holiday. Flights were good, check-in in Lanzarote a bit slow, otherwise no problems. Check-in at hotel good, room was satisfactory (3-star only however). Beds a bit uncomfortable but not as bad as some reviews make out. Kitchen very small but ok for breakfasts and occasional meal in. Rooms were clean and maids were friendly. Restaurant staff mostly friendly and helpful. Facilities outside were good although pools were a bit too cold. Most people enjoyed sunning themselves on loungers instead. Kids entertainment looked good although our son preferred to do stuff with us. Restaurant food was ok although we ate in the resort most nights. Hope that you don't need a doctor during your stay as all are private clinics and very expensive - same goes for pharmacy in town. Make sure your travel insurance covers you as your Euro health cards are no good. Overall highly recommend this holiday especially if you have young children, get a good value deal, and don't travel during the peak as it would be too busy.

"It does what it says in the brochure ..."

The whole Holiday Village was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The Village is located around a 15 minute walk from the beach/restaurants etc so if you have small children, a buggy is a must for later in the day - you can hire one through your tour operator or from reception if you don't take your own. Get a back gate key from reception. Rooms are on the basic side but that's what you'd expect at this price and English TV channels and safety deposit boxes are available at additional cost. It is a great place if you have small children as there's plenty for them to do. The only downside is that we have visited this Holiday Village twice and both times have had bedrooms which were noisy at night (I think it was something to do with being located near machinery for the air conditioning or pool systems) but also this time the whole apartment had the smell of an old ashtray as it is right next to the smoking corner and despite keeping the windows closed it always smelled - even the hairdryer smelled of smoke! My top tip is avoid Room 110 unless you are a smoker!

I do not believe that this property should have a 4 star rating. Althought most aspects of the property were good the food selection & variation of food throughout the week was very poor. It was very dissapointing as we have been on several First Choice holidays in the past & feel that they had been fairly star rated. We have also booked another First Choice holiday in Tunisia during July & hope that this proves to be as advertised.

We were looking for an inexpensive place to simply blob out for a week knowing the sun would shine. We weren't expecting much but the whole experience was far better than we could have anticpitated. The flight from Newcastle and back was first class and the accomodation in our apartment was excellent including lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The beds were slightly hard and we would have preferred a double bed but this didn't spoil our experience. The complex is particularly suitable for families with young children but as an older couple we stioll had a great time. We were on a self catering package but occasionally used the main restaurant and we found it excellent. We tried to use the Italian restuarnt on the site one evening but staff wouldn't let us in as we were not full board and had not booked in advance. Strange this and First Choice staff said this shouldn't have happened. We were very impressed, with Elenor our apartment cleaning woman, who left the accomodation spotless each day. She should be promoted. Best Wishes. Bob Whittaker MD Orion TV Ltd.

Lots and lots to do. We have just returned from here on Sunday. Weather was great only 1 day of clous in the week we had. The hotel its self has a good english speaking reception. The facilites are all good splash park lots of pools clean place good food we were not self catering but all inclusive here would be fine lots to choose from. Main pool and the 4 apartment pools were cooler than expected as this was advertised as climatised! Baby/kids pools are nice and warmer. maid service is very good speak a little english but very good standard of cleaning. The whole hotel complex was very clean. Hotel is in large surrounding with the back gate to recpetion been around 5 min walk, yet nothing too far away. Supermarket on site a bit expensive but ok. Make sure you use the back gate pass 10 euro's refunded if you go to playa blanca(10 min walk). free bus to beach goes on the hr 10am to 5pm and return. We had a family with 2 boys 3 yrs old and 7, both loved the place. you wont be dissapointed as a family. Its our first time we have been to a holiday village and we WILL RETURN! Really enjoyed the place and so did the family. well recommeded. Ideal for families young and teens
