"2nd visit"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Our 2nd visit to this hotel (spent Xmas here in 2006) and nothing has changed, it is still fabulous. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday then you can't go wrong. Hotel exceptionally clean, staff extremely friendly, food excellent, rooms cleaned daily to a high standard. Plenty of space around the pools, no need to put out towels to reserve sunbeds, there are plenty. Weather very good 27 degrees most days. Nice marina just down the road from the hotel, although the journey back from the marina is up hill and would not suit elderly or those with mobility problems, however you can get a taxi from reception to take you there, worth a visit, nice shops, supermarket and bars/restaurants and some very nice yachts/boats to look at. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, we will cetainly be going back.

"Lovely resort"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Went to this hotel after spending my first visit to Lanzarote at the nearby 5 star Hesperia Hotel in 2007 for our honeymoon. I felt in love with the island and loved the resort of Costa Calero. We got home and afer reading the excellent reviews for the Iberostar decided to give it a go. In our party was myself and my husband and our 3 year old little boy. We were not disappointed with our choice! The hotel lobby was as impressive as the Hesperia and so was the service from the staff. It was immediatley obvious that many people were returning customers and everyone was so friendly and a few of the people that we met had arranged to meet up after meeting at the hotel in previous years. The hotel rooms are big, clean and well maintained. The hotel was constatnly being cleaned and maintenance was discreetly carries out. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and the wine included on the all inclusive deal was fantastic - enjoyed the red, white and rose!!!! There was some critisism about the entertainment but I thought it was typical of most hotels. Could have done with being a bit later - maybe a disco but you could carry on drinking if you wanted. Our litle boy loved the mini disco and smiley dog!!!!

Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel certainly lived up to the high expectations suggested by the comments made on this website.
Rooms spacious and well appointed. Ask for Rooms 145 to 155, you have garden terrace and direct access to the main pool.
Although it is a large hotel there are 3 main pools (a bit cool)kids pool and spa pool with extensive gardens and seating areas. Even in July the hotel never seemed too busy and there was no need to make a dash for the pool in the morning with your towels unless you wanted a particular area.
The only time the hotel seemed busy was when there was a wedding (5 during our 2 weeks holiday) but weddings used the a la carte restaurant which wasnt in use otherwise. Only one pool bar was being used but you never had to wait very long to be served by the excellent staff. Pool side restaurant used for lunch but you could also get snacks and icecreams from the bar if you didnt want lunch.
All inclusive was definately the best option, not many paying. Well known brands were included in AI and waiter service for drinks in restaurant for dinner and both piano bar and entertainment centre.
Food was excellent, hot and several theme nights which added variety to a very extensive choice. Less adventurous younger children would rely on burgers, pizza and chips.
Kids club proved a hit with our 8 year old and most teens joined in with activities offered by hotel entertainment staff which worked so hard from 10.30 am to 11pm 6 days a week.
Evening entertainment was a bit mixed but generally as good as it gets!
Car hire from the hotel was a real bargain, 90 euros for 4 days for a micra or corsa. National Park to see the volcanic landscapes and Teguise sunday markets are worth it. Also hired cycles, arranged by reception and the hotel provides a daily bus to Pte del carmen
Go for it you wont find a better value for money 4* AI in the canaries.

Excellent hotel!
Staff are very friendly and the service is excellent they can not do enough for you. We had a great surprise you can opt for £20.00 bottles of wine with your Evening Meal off the wine list alongside named spirits in the day and evening. If you arrive late you are offered a cold salad in the restaurant which adds a nice touch
We met some great people from Essex and Manchester at the hotel and they all agreed that it was the best hotel they have ever stopped in. The staff work very hard and contribute towards the nice friendly atmosphere in the hotel.
If you decide to walk out of the hotel the harbour is a lovely area but don't forget some bread to feed the fish!

A wonderful 4* hotel. Quiet resort with small marina and designer shops and restaurants. 4 pools and spa. Lots of space for all. Very windy! No complaints except a bit quiet for the teenagers. Only booked with Cosmos as I used Tesco vouchers, but not impressed. I don't think they knew we existed. Not a patch on Portland direct.

"Far from Puerto del Carmen"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We decided to book a week in the Iberostar Costa Calero on the back of a recommendation from my parents who are frequent travellers to Lanzarote and Iberostar Costa Calero.
When we arrived at the hotel we were asked at reception if this was our first visit to the hotel. An less than usual request for a holiday resort hotel, but having spoken to a number of guests we discovered that there are a significant number of repeat customers.
Overall the hotel is laid out over a series of various swimming pools with secluded loungers. Overall the feeling was that the venue was not over crowded and getting a lounger, or even served at the bar, was never a problem. We noticed that there was a significant amount of investment in general maintenance which ensures the hotel does not slip into a shabby state.
Rooms were clean if slightly on the small side, but with private balcony and the usual mod cons of hair TV, dryer, safe, etc. The bathroom was equally clean with a powerful shower. Special mention should go to the housekeeping staff who ensured the place was spotless.
If you go all inclusive the selection of beers, spirits, wines and cava is more than acceptable... okay the wines and cava are not medal winners, but they are perfectly drinkable.
Food is the typical buffet with a good and varies selection of fresh food. Again, this is not Michelin star material, but the food is freshly prepared, with various fish and meats, paella, salads and accompaniments. They're not using the cheapest ingredients which is always a good sign.
Final mention goes to the staff who were without fail very pleasant and helpful.
On the down side, the entertainment was not our cup of tea, but we didn't go there for the cabaret!
Overall an excellent holiday at a hotel where they really do try hard to make your time there enoyable. We will return.

great time was had by us at this hotel, it was are first time in lanzarote so did not know what to expect. Hotel staff could not do enough for you. we were concerned that there was enough to do for our 3 year old son but need not have worried as he enjoyed the mini disco and playground but sadly not old enough for kids club. Complex very secure and with 5 pools plenty of places to swim. room what you would expect for class of hotel. The only slight problem we found was the food as not all children want chicken nuggets and pizza every meal and alot of the food to spicy for young ones. But on saying that never went hungry. peurto calero is a stunning place with bars and ( I suggest you try o'reilys) designer shops ,supermarket and even a museum. The hotel also runs a bus to peurto del carmen. We would recommend this hotel and will look to go again.

"Iberostar Costa Calero Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We wanted the perfect holiday.11 days to completely unwind and to celebrate my 45th birthday then our silver wedding.we,re so glad we picked the costa colero.
The second you walk into the reception area you feel your in a top class hotel.we had e mailed in advance to ask for a high floor {there is only 5 }so were delighted to be given room 530.The chech in was expertly efficient and the receptionist even asked us to help ourselves to the sparkling wine or fresh orange juice available beside the reception desk.If your all inclusive you are given two room cards which double as your room key plus your all inc pass if you like. When you go for lunch or a drink at any bar the staff swipe your card to show you are on all inc. This saves those wrist bands which are a pain.On arrival in our room we found a great view of the pool area and the marina which is even lovlier close up .Also a bottle of champange and a letter from the reception staff wishing us a happy 25th anniversary.{the wife almost started crying }.
This hotel is as good as the reviews all said it would be.There are no complaints at all from my wife or myself on any aspect of our stay.room excellent cleaned every day, food top notch, pool area lovely and clean with plenty of sunbeds.{honestly relax you really don,t need to bag a sunbed at 7am,}.
The all inc works really well and don,t be put off by the stories of the drink supplements.You get this in every all inc i,ve been to only at the colero they just happen to print in the bar list the extra you would need to pay for your branded drinks,for example smirnoff vodka instead of the local stuff would be an add on of 2 euros which can be added to your bill via your swipe card then paid at the end of your stay .The reception have a print out of anything like this plus any phone calls made from your room itemised then this bill is in your room the day before departure to be paid. IT,S THAT SIMPLE.But you really don,t need to bother with any fancy drink,s as the local lager{tropical}and the local spirits are excellant{and very strong}.Evening entertainment was the usuall hotel fair.This was never going to be a big issue for us as we are very easy pleased of an evening and sitting in the piano bar at night listening to either a piano player,a saxophone player or a violin player entertaining you with some really fine playing was a great way to finish our day.The main entertainment area had plenty of room and although the sevice could be a little slow at the peak times this was not a big problem to us {i know some people want served as soon as they appear at a bar ,this kind of hold up just does not bother me i,m afraid.}
The marina area of the resort{resort makes it sound a lot bigger than it really is}was a highlight for the two of us.It is stunning.A3 minute stroll downhill as you turn right out of the hotel takes you there.{ok it,s a 6 minute hike back up with a couple of bottles of magners in you later}but it is really worthwhile.There,s a supermarket in the marina as well as numerous restraunts and McSorleys irish pub which does a mean steak and burger and chips.It,s a great place to sit and watch the money go by{there must be a few millionairs boats in the marina going by the size of some of them.}We did the catlanza cattamaran trip and had a great trip with them to papaguyo beach on our anniversary.Cost for the 4 hour excursion was 130 euro,s per couple which is quite expensive but it really is good value for money as the free bar jet ski ride and meal is included.{the crew are brilliant and encourage you to get involved in everything unfotunately this also included th bar.}Special mention to Manny the young german guy who was the master of ceremonies during the trip ,and who also looked after me when i was violently sea sick on the way back into the marina later on {i would,nt wish this on my worst enemy,really.}Apart from this a truly memorable day out.Weather during the whole 11 days was stunning ,really hot every day ,but also with that great Lanzarote breeze which really cools you down{along with the lager and limes of course.Don,t take towels for the sunbeds ,for adeposit of 10 euros per towel {refundable at the end of your stay}you can get clean beach towels every day from reception.{but please hold on to your reciept.}
We,ve been fotunate to go to some really top notch hotels for our hols in the past but we,ve never re_booked.This has now changed and we are booking for next year at the colero already . nuff said.A great hotel for exactly what we wanted.Special mention to globespan who we bookedour flights with.On time both in and out .Also somewhere2stay who we booked the hotel with on the net.Great price which we could,nt find beaten anywhere else.We wanted the perfect holiday and can honestly say we got it.Book this hotel you,ll love it.

"Iberostar Costa Calero Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returnedlast week. Firstly the hotel is excellent, spotlessly clean and pool areas fantastic.
Rooms are well equiped and the sheets changed every 2 days, towels changed daily.
We were on the 5th floor and the views were fantastic. Some of the ground floor rooms had patio sets plus sunloungers.
The food inthe restaurant was good and plenty of choices even for Veggies. My only gripe was the lunchtime restaurant as it was outside and birds were flying abiut the food.Good A/I drinks although only 2 A/I cocktails.Outhers cost a supplement of 3.80 euros.
Pools were warm and I never saw an airbed in any of them. Plenty of sunloungers and parasols and plenty of screened off areas away from the pool. The Marina is only a 5min walk away but its quite a hill back up again. There are a few shops a supermarket andprobably about 1/2 dozen restaurants and bars. A further avenue is in the process of opening and there will be a Hugo Boss and Helly Hansen shops. Thankfully no tacky souviner shops. The hotel has a bus into Puerto Del Carmen 4 times a day (free)its only 5 euros back if you miss it in a taxi.
From the airport its approx 16-18 euros to the hotel.
There are about 4 tour shops in Puerto del Carmen and are about 15 euros cheapr than the reps trips the buses they use are good and are English speaking guides.
Forgot to mention the entertainment the Platters,Otis Redding and James Brown tribute acts were excellent as were Divos and Lord of the Dance.Definitely a hotel well worth a return holiday .Enjoy.

"Iberostar Costa Calero Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from this lovely hotel after a two week stay all inclusive. Don't be put off by the exterior of the hotel, it is lovely inside, and the grounds are beautiful, so many different flower's, very well laid out.
The rooms are a good size, very clean, sheets and towels changed regularly. We asked for extra pillows and they were delivered before we got back to the room.We asked for (by emailing the hotel) a ground floor room between 144 and 189, we were told by a friend these had good views and a terrace and patio. We were given rooms 174 and 176, and they were lovely, but to be honest, it wouldn't have mattered where we had been given a room, we would have been pleased with it.
The pools are very big, 1 salt water, 3 freshwater, which includes the children's pool, they are also very cold, but we braved them. Our only gripe if you can call it that is that they are all rather deep, our two 7 years olds were totally out of their depth unless they stood on the steps, they can both swim, but it was a bit worrying as everyone knows that children can panic and have accidents, but we were given permission for them to take a rubber ring in with them, and this gave them the security of knowing they had something to hold on to. We hired pool towels for 10 Euros, you change them at Reception as often as you need to, and at the end of the holiday, give them back the towels with your receipt and you get your money back.
The pool area and grounds are spotless and very pretty; you can always get a sun lounger, and you are never far from a bar to get a drink etc. Despite this, people still put towels on beds to reserve ";their bed"; then leave it empty most of the day - this was nearly always the English holidaymakers I might add.
The Spa is very good, when we got there on the 21st June it was 9 euros a day, but from the 2nd July the price went up to 12 Euros as it is now Summer Season, it is still good value, children are allowed in at certain times, the water is lovely and warm, the facilities are fantastic, you can also get various treatments there, which were very good. The entertainment team are great fun, I urge everyone to have a go at some of the activities, as well as the usual shooting, archery, volley ball, etc. they have silly games for any age group, try the Bingo at 4.30 p.m., its free, you can win a bottle of wine and champagne, and a free day in the spa (I won the day in the spa - great).
The food is very good, some people said it was repetitive, but when they have every choice of meat and fish you can think of on the menu, different vegetables and salads every day, what more can they put on so that it wasn't repetitive? We always found plenty to eat, enjoyed everything especially the pancakes at breakfast, certain meat is cooked fresh for you, as is the bacon, eggs, omelettes, pancakes, and other things, I managed to put 9 pounds on in two weeks, I don't think the others have had the courage to weigh themselves yet.
We found the Staff very friendly and helpful, not everyone speaks English, but we managed to make ourselves understood, (they do have a couple of Spanish lessons if you want to try them)Everyone kept saying how exclusive the Marina was, we were a bit disappointed with it, we all thought it was quite nice, but not a patch on Benalmadena or other ports we have visited, saying that, it was only about a five minute walk down there and it was a change of scenery, the few shops were good as were the restaurants, the problem came when we walked back to the hotel, it is a very steep hill, the walk uphill, combined with the heat, made my husband quite ill, and quite a few people had the same problem, but then we knew before we went that it was a steep hill, so we should have anticipated the problem.
The brochure tells you that the hotel is isolated, and yes it is, the bus service is reliable and free, but taxi's are cheap, ours varied from 4.80 Euros to 6.5 Euros, so we couldn't grumble. We also hired a car, we had to have at least a 6 seater as there were 6 of us, it was very expensive in the hotel, and they could only offer us a 9 seater minibus. We went into Peurto Del Carmen and Hertz quoted us even more, but suggested we have a five seater and have the children on our laps??? We then enquired at Cabrera Medina, a very nice gentleman recommended us to them, we had a Vauxhall Zofira, 7 seater, brand new, with two booster seats thrown in, for seven days for £182., less than we had been quoted for 3 days with the other firms. I was even credited with 9 Euros as we had left diesel in the car. (It cost 28 Euros to fill it up by the way; it costs my Son over £50 in England.
We travelled all over the Island, visited everywhere the trips usually go and more, for a fraction of the cost. The roads are good (if a little narrow in parts) and not too much traffic. If you do hire a car, brave the road and go to Papagayo Beach, it is beautiful, long stretch of golden sand, clear blue sea, just a few people on it, but beware, there are no toilets nearby, but they do have a small kiosk for drinks and ice cream.
We had a late evening flight, we asked the day before we left if we could keep one room on, we had no problem with this, and it cost 20 Euros, we kept it on from 12 noon, normal checkout till 8 p.m. We were able to eat up until 6 p.m. and could have drinks until we left. All local drinks are free, we even got San Miguel at first, but from 2nd July, you had to pay a supplement for that and s other special drinks such as Bailey's etc., but there is plenty of choice in the all inclusive option. The entertainment was o.k. As we had the car, and didn't get back till late, by the time we had dinner, after a drink we were all shattered, so in all fairness we didn't see all the shows, but I hearn no complaints. The Platters tribute group were good, and the Grease show put on by the entertainment team was great fun, Our Grandchildren enjoyed the mini Disco and they loved the shows they saw, there is also a quiet piano bar where you can sit and enjoy a drink, and there are lots of comfortable chairs and tables all round the hotel for you to sit an relax.
We loved the hotel and had a lovely holiday, it isn't the 'poshest' hotel we have stopped at, but its certainly one of the nicest, and when you speak to other holiday makers who have been visiting it on a regular basis since it opened, I think that speaks for itself. I would like to go back there, if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, in a lovely hotel thats near enough to other resorts that can be visited cheaply and quickly if you want a change of scenery, try it, you wont be disappointed.

the resort of calero is only small but has a lovely marina with bars / restaurants to choose from. Taxi ride to p-del- carmen is only 5 euros and with loads of places to eat and a casino if you like a gamble!!!
The hotel was by far one of the nicest/ cleanest we have been to and we would definately go there again which is something we have never done before , we always try different places / hotels. The only down side was that the staff are not very friendly due to only a few speaking good english(they all have name badges which also have flags on for which language they speak)The best thing about the hotel was that they had designed it so well that there was NEVER A SHORTAGE OF SUNBEDS regardless of what time you went and loads of little areas with 6/8 beds, all within easy reach of the 4 pools.Overall a brill place and would recommend a visit.

Simple, just go!. We booked a week here All Inclusive and I can honestly say that the Hotel, Staff, Food and Entertainment were First Class.Simply beautiful surroundings with well maintained and very clean Gardens and Pool areas. All Bedrooms with a Sea View and modern fittings, excellent Maid service daily..spotless.Choice of food is varied and I mean varied, never seen such a choice, and plentiful, suggest you book an extra seat for the flight home!. Free bus service to Puerto Del carmen for the die hard shoppers or beach worshippers.
Four Stars is easily earned at this hotel those of you that have already been will know exactly what I mean. Puerto Calero is a romantic little Marina just a few minutes walk away however beware those with a walking difficulty, a very steep slope needs to be negotiated, no bad thing after the ammount of food we consumed!. To be honest we very rarely left the Hotel, a choice of four pools and daily entertainment kept us well amused, or simply chill out in one of the many sun trap nooks in the garden. I will not ramble on but suffice to say you will be hard pushed to find any faults here. Like I said..just go!.

"Iberostar Costa Calero Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
What a brilliant holiday !!!!
We wanted 2 weeks of relaxation ,before the Xmas madness, and found that and more at the Hotel Iberostar.
From the moment you walk through the revolving doors, you know you've chosen a 'Touch of class'.The Hotel is spotlessly clean, and more than warrants it's 4*-plus rating.
Only 2 niggles to comment on,and in the big scheme of things, they're nothing.
1)The food DOES become bland within about a week of eating it.
2)One particular young lady on reception. Why work in a customer-facing role,if you cannot perform the basic functions of ";Hello/Goodbye";,or even TRY to smile ????.If she is your first 'Point-of-contact', don't be put off .... the rest of the staff are great.
Now,the good points. As mentioned earlier, the cleanliness is quite astounding, considering the size of the place.Better than anything I've seen before, including the Maldives.
The pools ....... 5 in total.
An on-site Spa.
The peace and quiet.
The rooms.
The Marina.
The Animation staff.
The location.
For us,all the above stood out so much, that for the first time EVER,we've booked to go back to the same place in July.
At this point,we'd like to mention one particular member of the animation team ....... Annibal ....... no,not Hannibal.
A bloke from the Dom Rep, who is as nice as his smile. He reminded us of Eddie Murphy. You can't help but join in with the fun he organises. As an aside, this is the first holiday we've ever felt like wanting to participate in 'Organised events'.What a laugh.
All-in-all, it depends what sort of holiday you are looking for.If you want a promenade with pub/shop/restaurant ... pub/shop/restaurant ..... then don't go here.
If you want a relaxing time in beautiful surroundings, then DO come here.
As with most All-inclusives, it's nice to 'Get out', and after the 'Trips' are exhausted, the Marina makes a welcome break.
We would go to 'McSorleys' (An Irish bar) for the football and a few pints of Guiness. Plus, the Chinese is excellent, especially after more than a week of the same hotel grub.
Our final point is the people we met,(mostly through joining in with the animation team).German,French
