"La penita"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a very good 2 star property. Very clean with good maid service. Nice grounds but little in way for youngsters. Pool bar good with enough choice for a snack. Superb location with a nice walk to the beach area.

"GREAT APARTMENTS"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is a 2 key hotel and is very clean, I would definitely use it again or recommend it to a friend, I normally holiday in Lanzarote particularly Puerto Del Carmen and this has been one of the cheapest yet best places I have stayed in and I definitely will be back next year
The maid service was fantastic, I never had to ask for toilet roll or towels as these were replaced every other day, and the beds were changed on a weekly basis, the apartments themselves were spacious and had everything that we needed and even though you are right in the middle of the main strip it was still quiet.
The apartments themselves didn't have that much for kids but Puerto Del Carmen does and the beach is beautiful there is also a free bus to Texas Rancho which kids really enjoy, its 15 euros for an adult and even though I don't have kids I was there a few times, there is a lot to do for kids and adults.
I will definitely be back next year at La Penita and would recommend it to anyone, very clean and great value, also very central but quiet.

"Great holiday in La Penita"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We had not gone self catering for ten years. Usually we go to 4 star half board hotels , so this was like a trip into the unknown. The Apartments were centrally located in Puerto del Carmen so we found getting local buses relatively easy ,although the recent one way system was constantly being revised because of road works. Hotel pool was well maintained and cleaned to a higher standard than many a posher place. Beaches were readily accessible and good in regard to safety and cleanliness. We loved Los Pocillos beach. Apartment had extensive range of cooking utensils and cutlery and we did use them because of the weakness of the pound to euro. The maid came 6 days a week and made beds ,cleaned and polished floors. Bedding changed once a week and towels twice per week. A five star apartment

"Superb Apartments in Puerto Del Carmen"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I was immediately struck by the look of the complex - very well maintained, bright, spotlessly clean, gleaming swimming pool. It is just so hard to fault the place. All the staff were very friendly, and attentive. The apartments are very spacious, and well equipped. The location is just perfect and also very quiet. There are so many restaurants nearby that I rarely went into the pool bar but, as with the rest of the place, no complaints. I would really make every effort to stay here next time I go back to Puerto Del Carmen.

"Superb, Brilliant."
Overall Hotel Rating:
Iv been going to lanzarote for over 13 years and have stayed in many appartments. I then tried the la Penita about 6 yaers ago and have been coming back every year at least twice and always stay here its very clean spacious and the staff are the most friendly people you could meet. They have just refurbished the pool bar and now have a eveniing resturant with a differant menu to the day one.We did try the meals over a few nights and found the food was excellent, compliments to Carlos, Toni and the Chef . We spent new year in the resturant were the staff had done a bbq, sangria and beer for the men. Pedro the entertainer kept every one happy with his quizes ,bingo , and music it was a fab night and every one seemed to have a good time I can not wait until 2009 2010 to do it all again. The apartments are rated as 2star, but I feel this is too low, should be higher.

"The Best We Have Stayed In"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Returned last night from La Penita and i can honestly say its the best place we have stayed in Lanzarote. Its Clean, Its located right next to the beach, shops, bank, bars, and restaurants. My son who has ADHD was welcomed with open arms and entertained by poor Pedro!!!! What a guy, He is great not just with the kids but adults aswell, especially on Spot Bingo, TOO many shots pedro LOL . The bar staff are great too, Toni and Carlos were great even doing food after cook had gone at 11.30 at night. The only thing not too nice was the pool was really cold but all the kids loved it, and it was clean, not like some pools iv seen. All in all we didnt want to come home, Well done to all staff and guests who came across Jason, Thanks for being so KIND and FRIENDLY

"pleasant hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed in Oct 2008, with our two kids (1 and 3yrs). Small pool bar served OK food but didn't stay open late in the evening so was no good for a night cap (this may have been due to low demand, though). Pool area nice and clean but nothing special. Nice staff. Kids were happy enough and the animation chap tried hard to get people involved and made a huge fuss of my little boy, which he loved! Rooms all very different - ours had plenty of space and faced onto a private road which was quiet but I know some overlooked other building rooftops. Location is fab. Not in the thick of things but only a very short walk to the bars and restaurants. Very reasonable hotel for the price.

"great location"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Did not try the food so cannot comment. We took our Grandson who is 5 years old and he made friends with other kids his own age there and had a ball and none of the kids was any trouble, unfortunately some of the other people staying there seemed to think that kids should not be there, if they feel that way "STAY ELSEWHERE" kids need holidays as well. Only other gripe was these same people put their towels on the loungers either the night before or in the morning before anyone was out of bed "GET A LIFE", and staff did nothing although in there rules it is not allowed. But would highly recommend La Penita.

"Lanzarote"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I would agree with what alot of other people have said about these appartments. The rooms are a lovely size, the bathroom has a wonderful power shower & the kitchen has every item that you will need. The negatives which I should point out are a lack of plug sockets in the kitchen and bedroom and the pool is so quiet during the day, a little bit of music would be nice!! The atmosphere is poor.. but dont let this put you off.. the apartments themselves are probably one of the best around (self catering)

"Get up early for a sunbed!!!!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed here for one week in August 08. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff friendly, the location excellent. Our 1st morning at the appartments we went down to the pool about 9 am to find not a sole about but not 1 sun bed available, every single bed had been covered with a towel and apparantley i was told you had to get up 6ish to get a bed!! One day there were 3 beds covered with one towel the owner of this towel turned up at 3pm to use 1 of the 3 beds. In the rules and regulation leaflet you receive on arrival it states please do not reserve beds I just wish the hotel would stick to their policy. We eneded up going to the beach 5 days as we never could get a bed.

"La Penita Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Having been to Lanzarote and Puerto Del Carmen before we knew the area fairly well but had stayed in the old town in Aguamarina which were fabulous and are owned by the same people so we had no hesitation in booking La penita. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were given a lovely bottle of wine, being repeat guests, a lovely thought! We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool and it had a microwave, kettle, coffee maker, TV and everything you could possibly need on a holiday, even washing up liquid, cloth and sponge. You could do a wash and tumble dry for a small charge also downstairs. You could also get an iron and ironing board free of charge. The reception staff were so helpful and made numerous phone calls for us to book some trips we wanted to go on.The beds were very comfortable around the pool also. Pool bar served lovely food, reasonably priced and you could have a very quiet night-cap there before going to bed if you just wanted some place quiet for the night. The only thing that maybe they could do with having is maybe some nights having some low key music or something in the bar.Loved Lanzarote again and defenitely will return to either place mentioned. Regards to all in both places and hope to see ye soon again.

"La Penita Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a great 2 week holiday at La Penita. The rooms were of a good size and cleaned to a high standard. In fact the whole complex was kept very clean. The location was particularly good, being just a short walk to the main promenade. Having taken many holidays in Spain and the Canaries I was particularly pleased to see that there wasn't the usual early morning dash (7 to 7.30am !!) to ";book"; the sunbeds. Instead I was able to have long lie-ins, walk to the pool area at around 8.15 and still be one on the first to ";book"; their beds - Oh joy !!
Pueto del Carmen has many good pubs and restaurants and I do know that this is very much an individual choice, but I'll share the names of the best that we found ... La Ola (next to the Casino) for an upmarket type of meal, good service with a pianist playing in the background, Noah (onto the promenade, turn left, cross the road and about 500 yd walk) for their special lamb meal (about Euros 14), a little pricey I know, but well worth it believe me, El Chiquito (onto the promenade, turn right, maybe 1/2 a mile walk ?) a cheap and cheerful meal, but good sized portions and of a good quality, Maison de Marines a small white painted building (onto the promenade, turn left, cross the road and about 300 yards) for another quality meal with good service. For a pre-dinner drink try the Casino Terrace (above the casino) - cheap prices, good service and not overly full unlike a number of the other cocktail types bars.

"La Penita Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
La Penita Apartments are excellent value. We had a very spacious one bed apt with TV with some English channels incl. movies, toaster, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and most importantly a fan - great as there is no air conditioning. Our apartment was only a short walk to Avenida de las Playas and all the restaurants and bars. We couldn't fault the cleanliness or the servicing of the apartment. The towels were changed 3 times and the bed linen changed twice during our week. Customer care at Reception was one of the best I have experienced, nothing (within reason) was too much trouble.
This was our 4th stay in Puerto del Carmen area and we found it has become a bit 'tacky'. At night we had to run the gauntlet of the relentless bar touts who were quite intimidating and in a lot of cases refused to take no for an answer and would follow us down the street.
I would recommend Universo for eating out in the evening. We had most of our meals there and all of them were superb and the service was excellent. Cafe La Ola has a lovely location and I would recommend a visit just for the surroundings alone - people watching there is hilarious!
One of the best things in Puerto del Carmen is the new Biosfera Shopping Centre which is situated between the new and old towns - the bus stops directly outside if you don't fancy the hill in the heat. Mango, Zara and especially Bershka are fantastic value and have lovely stuff which you just can't find in Ireland.
We took the bus into Arrecife and weren't impressed at all. The walk from the bus into the centre is quite nice but if you want shopping better to stick to the Biosfera.
Lanzarote itself is a lovely island and you should make the effort to hire a car and go out and see the sights. Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio, El Golfo etc are all well worth a visit. If you don't want to hire a car you should do the Grand Tour but just make sure you book directly through the office on the main strip (can't remember the name). Cost with them is 50 Euro as opposed to 70 Euro through the Tour Reps.
All in all, Lanzarote is great for a cheap break - we only paid £165 each for the week at La Penita - but if you want culture, to be honest, there's not much of it on the island.
