We stayed at the Holiday Inn, valencia in June 2006. the hotel has a beautiful reception area and is in an idela location close to the science museum, aquarium etc. the port is a good 40 minutes walk away and not as great as we expected. the beach is 5 minutes on from the port and has a few restaurants and 2 bars. for more choice we recommend the Gran Via area, which is a 5 - 10 minute walk from the hotel (on the way to the Old City). here you have an excellent choice of bars and restaurants. from here you can go onto the city, which is full of shops and much like many cities around the world, but has soem beautiful buildings too. the old city is worth a visit too. the bars and reatsuarnats are all around the many side streets here, and at night it is full of local people. (which is great!).
the hotel itself was lovely, but the rooms are sligtly tired, with some of the wallpaper peeling. but they are still nice rooms. they have a gymnasium upstairs with a few machines, a sloarium and a sauna. the upstairs bar and pool were closed when we visited, as was the bar in the main reception area. the restaurant looked good, but we never tried it. i visited the snack bar and was sat for 10 minutes before i walked off after not even being looked at to be served.
all in all Valencia is a beautiful city. you must visit the science museum and aquarium, the cathedral is small but beautiful. enjoy your stay!

Holiday Inn, Valencia - definitely a 4* rating. Fabulous rooms and good breakfast. Wonderful beach - clean and large. Fantastic sight-seeing - churches, old town etc. Lots of reasonably priced restaurants in the main streets. Definitely worth a visit. There is a new Aquarium - quite expensive to get in but lots and lots to see - so worth the ticket price. Genuine Tapas bars and lots of authentic entertainment. Valencia is not spoiled in any way so worth a visit soon. Now that you can get good flights from low cost airlines - what are you waiting for?
