Puerto Pollensa review
"Great resort for families"
resort to a friend
This was our second visit to Puerto Pollensa, having been there 4 years ago. It is a really nice place to go for a quiet holiday and is good for families, with a lovely gently shelving beach and warm water. It's also good for people interested in various water sports. The Pine Walk is full of restaurants and busy most of the day but especially in the evenings. We thought it was slightly quieter than our last visit, perhaps because of the recession and the ash clouds earlier in the year putting people off travelling abroad by air. There are also really nice restaurants in the town square just behind the Pine Walk, slightly more expensive but excellent quality food. Its pretty easy to get around and visit other places from Puerto Pollensa, with a regular bus service to other attractions including Palma, which is definitely worth visiting. The journey only took about an hour in an air conditioned bus and only cost just over 22 Euros for the 4 of us.

Sa Coma review
"Not as nice as Cala Millor"
resort to a friend
Not as nice as nearby Cala Millor or S'illott. Could do with a bit of TLC in places.
We were a bit disappointed with the resort. Nothing much to do in the evenings apart from a nice walk along the sea front, a multitude of similar shops selling Chinese made tat, and some slightly grimy British bars/restaurants. Much nicer is Cala Millor up the road, or S’Illot in the other direction.
Would we go again? To Sa Coma – no. To a Protur hotel – yes.

The surrounding area wasn't much to look at, there is a park just down the road which the children enjoyed. A broken spirits bottle remained on the path by the park the whole week as well as some dog mess. I slipped a few times on the pavement as it is tiled in places and also broken in others. The main beachfront was quite nice, we didn't sample the food or drink as we only ate and drank in the hotel.

Small but friendly resort. Lovely for a beer and chill out looking over the beach. A must is a walk down the promenade on a evening, really busy with families enjoying the warm evenings.

Camp de Mar is a lovely resort. It isn’t too big, the beach is lovely and it is peaceful and relaxing at night. There is a good mix of nationalities there, some good restaurants and some good shops. We would go back.

we found the resort relaxing but great for the kids, the area has been used in scenes of many films, it is so beautiful, some lovely coves. The people are ever so friendly and accomodating. Can't wait to return.

Soller Railway This is a wonderful day out. You get the 1920's train from the station in the centre of Palma (next to the modern train station). The journey takes about an hour, passing through the streets of Palma, then through the flat countryside covered in olive groves, and finally into the mountains. You go through several tunnels, including one which seems to go on forever, until eventually you reach Soller. The best thing to do at this point is to get on the tram down to the harbour, which is beautiful (you can walk if you're fit and have lots of water, but it is about 5kms). Find a nice place and have some lunch by the sea, then get the tram back to Soller.

This was our first trip to Majorca.
Can Picafort is full of German tourists. As a resort it is OK. The sandy beaches are great as is the surf when there is some wind,
Food and drink is expensive, but it is in most of Europe. 4.25 euros for a small bottle of lemon fanta at one bar was not very impressive. We had a meal on the first night in a promenade cafe / restaurant which was unimpressive and we did not find anywhere else that looked nice to eat in Can Picafort.
There were a couple of nice bars, but generally we were not very impressed. I would definately not recommend it for 17-25 year olds who want to party.
We hired a car, which is an absolute must, and this enabled us to visit lots of places and eat in some nice restaurants.
A quick review of places visited:
1. Pollenca - worth a visit ; walk the 365 steps to the chapel & drink at a cafe in the square
2. Port de Pollenca - best place visited that we would have prefered to have been based at ; lovely restaurants and atmosphere ; great beach but look out for jellfish ; mostly English
3. Alcudia - nice place at night ; lovely restaurants and atmosphere especially on the quayside ; mostly English
4. Platja de Muro ; nice beaches ; lots of tourist shops ; worth a visit at night
5. Colonia de Sant Pere ; off the beaten track gem ; small village with restaurants by the sea. We had an excellant meal at one of them watching the sunset.
6. Betlem ; off the beaten track again next to Colonia ; We had an excellant meal at one of them watching the sunset.
7. Arta ; worth a quick visit for a drink and walk up to the chapel for great views.
8. Cala Mesquida ; nice beach ; mostly all German toursists.
9. Cala Rajada ; dirty and a bit scruffy ; mostly all German tourists. The beach and surf were excellant though. We returned at night and had an excellant meal at mamma pizza and drinks at a lovely bar and enjoyed the atmosphere.
10. Cala Bona ; alright for a walk and drink ; didnt stop long.
11. Cala Millor ; excellant beach and surf which we went to twice.
12. Platja de sa Coma ; excellant beach ; but the rest didnt appeal.
13. Porto Cristo ; scruffy and disappointing ; didnt stop long.
14. S'llot ; scruffy ; didnt stop long
Overall verdict
Only stay in the north of the island for 1 week, and base yourself near Port de Pollenca.
Hire a car and visit the best places listed above.
We would only return to Majorca for a 4 day city break to Palma.
