A nice hotel. We were in the far corner on the oposite side from reception with each block having their own small pool which was never too busy. Quite a few steps to get to your room but nothing too bad. Cannot comment on the other half of the hotel as we never really went in there.

just returned from 1 weeks holiday 2 Adults 3 children 2 bedroom apartment apartment - basic but clean on the ohter side of the complex 2 nd floor with a fair amount of stairs could not have managed with a pram not much of a view from the balcony but the rear windows overlooked a pleasant pool area. Maid service very good always around with more towels and changed the bedding 3 times. Air con available mid afternoon and at night. Complex- mainly German which was only a problem for the kids entertainment the staff were friendly but every thing was German the TV channels and all evening shows etc Food- we upgraded to all inclusive after 3 days due to the kids which was fantastic food available most of day drinks galore !! restaurant clean and food good and fresh Pools - 1 large central area which we preferred and 3 other small pools a bit cool get up earlier for loungers 8.15 the latest !! Local area - pefect location nice restaurants near by but pricey for the larger family overall a good holiday fluent in GERMAN by the time we left

We loved this resort, it was clean and upmarket. The paved restaurant part of the town was wonderful. We ate there every night and never had a bad meal. They were also very reasonably priced.

The apartments were clean and reasonably furnished. We did not bother to pay extra to have the tv. The section we were in was across the road from reception and quite a long walk round from the main pool and entertainment areas. However, we did have our own smaller pool, which was very clean, with plenty of sunbeds.

We did have a major problem with a dog which lived in the house adjacent to the apartments. This animal barked incessantly all night long and it's bark was so high-pitched and piercing that it made it very difficult to sleep.

We usually like to go for a walk by the sea, but this was quite difficult, as all the properties go out to the cliff-top, so to walk from one bay to another you have to go inland and walk along the roads. However, the little bays are really lovely and well worth the walk to find them (I believe there is a little train which goes backwards and forwards to the beaches but we didn't use it).

This is definitely NOT a resort for you if you have any mobility difficulties. Most beaches have a lot of steps down to them and the Ariel Appartments were on 3 floors, with no lifts.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our week and would definitely go again.

ariel hotel is ok semi clean , entertainment good but if somewhat repetitive, you have a choice of self catering there or hotel it is what you pay for, a cheap deal so i cant complain too much............

we went everywhere trying out places to eat be warned the CENTRE is not what it seems, VAT NOT included on your meals or drinks , a common factor at most of the restaurants in the centre which on face value looks good but bad service , ok food and hidden extras added to your meal . may i add 90% of these restaurants are NOT spanish they are dutch owned, and put the 20% VAT on afterwards. HAD horrid meal at THE DUMPLING which is in centre , i sat outside and when i went to the toilet inside i didnt realize that i was eating in a pigsty absolutely filthy, and they were all smoking in the bar near to the kitchen whilst serving food
we went to tropical gardens for good entertainment , and our favourite beache was cala d or the small one

all in all good holiday

heres a quick run down of our rating
ariel appartments

ACCOMMODATION..
very big appartment but very basic we stayed in the appartments at the other side of the dining area room 1001 2 large bedrooms big kitchen 1 bathroom 1 dining area very big balcony you could tell at one time this place was top notch for the germans but now its run down
ENTERTAINMENT
ha ha!!! if you are german or can speak german well it will be ok. the english are not catered for
THE POOLS
4 pools yes you've guest it 3 for the germans 1 for us ... the only bonus is that we had a loverly 2 weeks by the pool with some loverly scotish and welsh friends it was like having a private pool.
KIDS ENTERTAINMENT
didnt see any and to top it all what looked like a kids club i would'nt have put my dog in it. it looked like a converted squash court
so my review of the arial appartments bottom line is its crap

CALA'O'DOR
good mix of bars and restaurants not many lively bars tho .. best pint is to be had in the scotish bar but its quite hard to find its under the shops you have togo down about 10 steps looks like you are going into a basement.
ALSO JUST OUT OF TOWN
take a walk to the harbour it takes about 20 mins theres a few bars overlooking the boats nice and relaxing the resort has nothing in the way of beaches they are all in coves and quite a walk

DONT GO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A MAGALUF OR A PLAY'DEL'INGLES... BUT IF YOU WANT TO RELAX WELL HEAD TO CALA'O'DOR AND SLEEP

best thing use it as a base hire a car get out and see the island lots to see and do
WILL I GO AGAIN ?
no chance i will stick to the canaries

P.S it looks by my coments that im germaphobic (im not) it would be nice to know when you book somewere who they are catering for take it from me they dont cater for brits

we booked a Allinclusive 3star AOA holiday in majorca with cosmos
this was the worst holiday of my life
this hotel is SC and dose not have AI facility or activities
AI drinks were limited, had to pay for localy produced drinks
there was no childrens food/ menu. the quality of the food on offer was fine for adults.there was no friut or yoghurts etc.we ate out most of the time as the children wouldn't eat the food.
snacks that were on offer: fried squid, omlet or crockets.which you had to wait for aprox 20 mins. there was other snack of chips, burgers etc but you had to pay for them.
the entertainment (when there was some) was mainly for german's.
pool area was dirty.

air conditioning was on from 6pm till 12 pm. we asked to have it on all night we offered to pay. they said we couldn't have it. other people we spoke to who were AI had it on all the time and didn't have to pay.
the staff didn't understand us but understood german people. many members of the staff were rude to us. a bar man shushed my son away from the bar when he asked for a coke even though he showed him his white AI band.we payed to move to another hotel it was so bad here. i wouldn't reccomend any one going here AI

Well first we got to Manchester Airport and found we had a 6 hour flight delay, but we were given £8 each refreshment vouchers which wasn't too bad, When we arrived at the apartments we had a two bedroomed and this was very big and clean althought the bathrooms were abit of a let down just abit dingy and the balcony was abit small but the inside more than made up for it.

On our first day we went to one of the four pools {the one with the outside bar} but found we were the only english the rest were german so we went to have a look at the other pools and found one with the english it was better as my daughter could make friends easier.

The hotel kids club is an absolute disgrace, i took my little girl and ask the lady what i needed to do she repiled ";you come back at 4"; so i did and when i got there my daughter was nowhere to be seen! i asked the lady where she was and she told me that my 3 year old had gone to find me! well i was in shock that they had let her out without someone collecting her. as i went franticly looking for her i bumped into the cosmos rep who also help me to find her which thank god i did. needless to say she never went to the hotel's kids club again and if you are going take this as a warning.

the kids disco was abit of a let down at the hotel but about 100 metres away you will find the tropical gardens this as a fantastic entertainments program for families and children.

Cala Grans beach is wonderful but very busy so it was a good job cala d'or have 7 to choose from and they all were beautiful.

All in all would recommend cala d'or for families and young people as it is lively but not too lively and the accomidation was in the best location for everthing just a shame about the kids club and hotel entertainment.

Our holiday opinion seems to be quite different to other reviews. We thought that the resort of Cala D'or was not as nice as the brochures make out. It is advertized as a upmarket resort with a lovely harbour, which it is not. The main town where the hotels are is quite tacky and full of ";british"; pubs and tacky gift shops, the harbour is very nice however it is a 25 min walk from the main resort.

We were impressed with the Ariel apartments, they were clean and quite acceptable. The pool was very quiet with us being the only people round it most days!. Yes it is geared to Germans, but so are alot of european resorts nowadays.

Overall had still had a good holiday.

Judging by some of the previous opinions and our experience the Ariel Apartments must have really sorted themselves out.

We arrived at 11.00 A.M. and tried our luck with seeing if our apartment was ready, expecting at least a 2 hour wait. It was ready and the reception lady walked us to our apartment (we had to carry out own cases!). The apartment was fairly well equipped bearing in mind the price and rating but I don't think you would want to rely on them to do all your cooking. The 4 pools allowed us a certain amount of privacy. Yes, there were a lot of Germans but should this really be a problem nowadays?. The shops and restaurants were literally a minute walk away. The maid came in every day to empty the bins and change the towels and mopped the floors twice during our week stay. She even folds your pyjamas! We were very impressed by the standard of cleanliness. We also found the reception very obliging with changing money and storing our luggage on the day of departure etc. So overall, we would recommend the Ariel Apartments.

Our rep (Gemma) was always available and both friendly and helpful.

As for the location it isn't as high class as some of the brochures make out. The harbour is very nice but quite a walk (20 minutes). There are a good amount of shops but many selling the same type of thing. There are many restaurants but I would say avoid the British ones, traditional British means traditional British service which means you will be kept waiting for ages and served by waitors who seem less than happy to be serving you. Highly recommended is Cheers - excellent friendly service and a 3 course meal with Sirloin steak and a bottle of wine (to myself!) cost just 15 euros. A full monty breakfast with literally everything included costs just 4 euros. If you after a bit of sun, few shops to browse and good cheap food you can't go wrong with Cala d'or.

although this was a late deal we had expected better than what we got. Having read the existing reviews of this ";hotel"; I can assure people that it has not changed one iota.

The food was abysmal and we spent at least 9 nights of the 14 eating dinner out. The restaurant staff were surly and the most unco-operative we have ever met in all our 19 holidays since 2001. One night the choice for dinner was Bratwurst, chips and Brussels Sprouts - what a combination! Salad was aavailable, somewhat wilted and no cold meat or cheese to go with it. The other thing that grated was the fact that you only had an hour to eat your ";meal";.

The area was excellent, people friendly and for a good English meal try The Dumpling or the Three Dolphins (San Miguel at 2Euros a pint) Mike and Alison at Whet Your Whistle were a fount of knowledge and had a wide range of leaflets and bus timetables - well worth a visit. It is worth noting that this place is a complex and not just a hotel - apart from which it caters more for the Germans than the Brits - this was borne out by the signs that said ";Exclusive to Alltours"; and as we were told by the rep -";it caters for the Germans";. One saving grace was that the maids were friendly and kept the rooms clean. The evening entertainment was biased towards the Germans - a good escape we found was to walk down the Toucan Hotel for far better (drinks quite cheap as well)

Would go back to Cala D'Or but definetely not to the Ariel.

We first went to the Ariel appartments ten years ago, pre marriage and pre children. We had a wonderful time, stayed in a lovely appartment which was cleaned daily and basically had a 'ball'. So much so that when we decided we wanted to return to Cala d'or with our two children in August this year, I didn't hesitate in booking Ariel Appartments once again. Big mistake!

Cala d'or was as delightful as ever (although somewhat bigger)but we couldn't believe how run down and dirty our appartment was (A4). It was most disappointing and really shattered our memories from ten years ago. We arrived at noon on a hot August day, we had to wait till 1pm as our room wasn't ready. The lady took us to our room and we couldn't believe it. It was very very basic - for the four of us we had paid £2,400 for a two week stay and for hotel prices we expected fairly decent accommodation.

The kitchen was a disgrace so much so that we only used it for cereal in a morning and only then we used our own bowls and spoons. The food that was encrusted around the two ring hob and down the side of the oven was appalling - it made me feel sick. The bathroom was disgusting, you just couldn't look too closely, if you did you wouldn't have stayed there. The glass in the bathroom was covered in toothpaste from the previous owners - I just threw it in the bin. The door in the bathroom wouldn't allow two occupiers in there at any one time and the door to the second bedroom only opened a little bit.

The furniture on the balcony was old and uncomfortable. It was such a shame as we had worked so hard all year we couldn't believe how awful it was. The maid service was poor and a bit spasmodic. The ariel appts site itself isn't brilliant. There is very clearly a british contingent and a german one. A4 is in the german camp. The pools aren't ideal for toddlers so we spent a lot of time on the cala gran beach.

We did have a good holiday (despite the appartments), we spent very little time in the appartment itself and lots of time exploring the beautiful resort.

We would go back to Cala d'or in the future but certainly not Ariel Appartments.

Our apartment was on the top floor which you had to climb 46 steps to reach.Balcony over looked the pool which was really nice, the room had no air conditioning and the room was very basic, maid service is not much good, they only empty bins, change your towels, bed linen is only changed once a week. It says in the brochure that there is evening entertainment (this is aimed at the Germans)The locals of Cala D'or are really friendly and welcoming, and if you want a nice meal in the evening with friendly and entertaining staff try Cheers Bar they are brilliant.

Would go back to the resort again, but unsure as to whether we would stay at the Ariel Apartments again.

This was our 1st holiday abroad with the baby and we were looking forward to a nice break after carefully chosing our accomadation several months before.

On arrival we were taken to our accomodation (2 bedroom apartment) and were immeadiately disappointed to see the cot in the lounge and it was unable to be moved into the bedrooms as the doorways were too narrow - the cot mattress was a tatty piece of foam with a damp piece of fabric wrapped around it; just horrible!!! Also the room smelt damp and fusty and the bedroom smelt of urine. But as it was late we went to bed. The next morning we reported this to the reps - even the sofa felt damp and there was no heating; just a dodgy electric heater with bare wires!!! Other people within the accomodation had heated / not damp rooms and I think ours was just a bad plot (A4 / number 4)

After wasting 2 days complaining / ringing the cosmos head office in palma and eventually they moved us to the cala gran across the road - which was excellent; clean, dry, warm and the cot fitted in 1 of the bedrooms so we could all get a decent nights sleep!!! Cala d'or is a lovely resort but the season does nto really get going until May so it was a bit of a ghost town, the beaches were lovely and clean - a perfect family resort or ideal for couples who like the quiet life; but just don't stay at the ariel!!!
