"ok for a week relaxing"
Overall Hotel Rating:
clean rooms, lovely swimming pool, food awful (we were all inclusive basis) and it was soggy chips and some variety of meat every night, pool snacks faired better. Lovely beach 2min walk, not much nightlife, if u like staying up after 12am you will struggle to find live music or a bar open with music on

"Fantastic "
Overall Hotel Rating:
We had a studio apartment which was basic but was very clean and had everything you needed as well as a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. We decided not to have the apartment cleaned whilst we stayed there but was given cleaned towels 3 times throughout the week. Everyone who worked there was extremely friendly and approachable, nothing seemed to be to much bother. You do have to pay for the sunbeds around the pool (2 euros) but we did not find that a problem at least we could lay in the sun in comfort. We would definately go to the Sol Cala D'or Apartments again.

"4th stay"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This complex is very basic in terms of facilities, rooms etc, but it is cheap and ideally located in the heart of the resort. We have stayed here 4 times, but this year Sol have introduced "all-inclusive" and i dont believe the complex has enough to offer to merit an all inclusive holiday, we chose as usual s/c as there are a wide selection of bars and restaurants in Cala D'or that offer excellent food/drinks at reasonable prices. To restrict yourself to one complex means you miss out on the excellent town of Cala D'or.

"good hols"
Overall Hotel Rating:
It is modern and nicely decorated. Not loads to do but well laid out and kept tidy. There is entertainment but it is a bit disorganised but it is fun however. It is good for families ie lots of other kids, but not good for couples wanting a relaxing break. The rooms are farly basic with the usual facilities.

"Good Location,Good Hotel."
Overall Hotel Rating:
This hotel is in a great location right at the heart of Cala D'or.Transfer time was 1hr from airport. We had a studio which only had 2 sofa beds not very comfy but did the job.Good air-con and had a fridge, kettle and toaster plus an oven and hob.TV with BBC1 ITV1 and sky sports 1 with all the live games from the premiership.Remote for the TV was 6 euros from reception but refunded when you left. You need to set your alarm for 8.45am if you want a sunbed as all beds are chained up and cost 2 euros per day to rent from the pool guy who appears at this time to unlock the chains.Daft idea why not just leave them out and collect money later ! Good snack bar with breakfasts and lunches and good prices compared with local restaurants. The hotel has a sun terrace on the roof with a free jacuzzi and free sunbeds.Bars and restaurants are all on the doorstep but we still found it quiet in our room at nights.
"Sol Cala Dor"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Have just returned from two weeks, July/August 2008, and had a very enjoyable stay. Dont agree with James!!! We have stayed at this hotel three times now in total and have always been treated very well. All of the staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel is kept very clean. Maids come in every other day and linen and towels are changed often.
We had a great room, more like a suite, and a bottle of bubbly, because we had been twice before, Nice to be remembered and thought of.
Our two children love the hotel which gives them great freedom to go and have a game of pool etc by themselves the odd time with them still being safe. They have great fun with all of the bar staff who always make a fuss of them.
The hotel is situated in a great spot, close to the beaches and close to the town for a great choice of restaurants. Our favourites being "Es Caliu" - the green one and "Aquarius" at the marina. (The marina being a further 5 min walk from the main square) Pre book or get to "Aquarius" before 7:30 as it is popular.
Overall: a very relaxing holiday, great hotel and pool, may very well go back again!!

"Crap"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The bar staff were rude, and for some bizarre reason also slammed down everything. They spoke broke English and often sniggered and laughed in spanish, which I felt was quite often pointed at people around the bar. Asking for a beer etc seemed to be a hindrance to them. We were treated like pests.
It's a good job Cala D'or is a beautiful place, as we spent every minute we could away from the hotel. Walshies was quite good, and plenty of nice places to eat and drink. The sea is gorgeous!
In summary this hotel is nowhere near a 3 star, and don't be duped by the other reviews, I swear they've been put there by a third party trying to give the hotel a better reputation. Infact, I read all of the reviews on this site for this hotel and there were some bad ones which mirrored what I've said, but they seem to have dissapeared? I wished I'd have listened to them and went elsewhere.
This hotel was full of chavvy type families, and we're not snobs by any means, but it felt like we were in minehead during the day around the pool. Not exaclty the kind of escapism we were looking for..
The food was terrible, had a few meals there, and could've sworn they were frozen meals just heated in the microwave.
When we checked out we weren't even asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. Not even a goodbye. Just handed the key over and she carreid on typing away. We weren't really surprised as this was the general theme of the hotel.
I will never return to the Sol Cala D'or. They should be shut down for the trade descriptions act. How they managed to pull of a 3 star rating is beyond me. Incredible.
If you're thinking about booking with this hotel I strongly urge you not to make the mistake we did. Book else where, the hotel is disgrace and it's description is, in our eyes. a complete and utter lie.

"Crap"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Sol Cala D'or? What a joke of a hotel. I've been to Cala D'or three times now and this is the worst hotel I've stayed in on the Island, and infact anywhere in the world.
They claim It's a 3 star hotel, but don't be fooled by this. I have never stayed in such a poor complex. I'd give it 2 stars at best.
When we arrived our first impression, from the outside, was a good one. The hotel seemed quite modern looking. However, we were greeted by an older gentleman, who didn't even seem mildly interested in showing some form of customer service. Just a few grunts here and there, wave of the hand and a bit of pointing.
When we entered our room we were first shocked to see how dated the decor was. It's was a flash back from the 80's. Seriously, this room hadn't been updated for 20 years, and they have the cheek to call it modern? And the decorating they had done was to such a poor standard a small child could of done a better job. The walls, tiles, floor, finishing etc looked like it'd been done by a builder who'd been off his face on San Mageal. It was very small, and the bathroom had room for only person, which became quite awkward. The facilities were poor. The oven didn't even work properly. We found a bare socket with bare wires poking out of it. The mattress had stains on it, and there were cracks in the bathroom tiles and floor tiles.
Once we'd stomached the room we were then introduced to the incredible noise of the hotel. I'm not joking here - shut a door and the whole hotel wil hear it. And trying to get an early night(11-12) was not possible. Music, entertainment(which surrounds the hotel) goes indoors by midnight, but the hotel bar stays open until the last few go to bed. We had a 1st floor pool view room, and the slightest noise from the bar or someone walking past blasted through the flimsy 'doll house' doors and windows. Then we had to compete with the air-con.. It's 'quiet mode' made a noise so loud it was more comfortable turning it off and sleeping in the blistering heat. And then to top it off at 8am(after only a few hours sleep) the sunbed man comes out and slams down each bed which woke us up every morning. And get this - you have to stand and wait by an area, he comes over to you SLAMS down however many beds you want and then CHARGES you 2 euros each. We slept very little during our stay, and I know this sounds a bit daft but both myself and my girlfriend had nightmares every night. I'm sure this hotel was built on a pet cematary
"Sol Cala D'or Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
After reading numerous good reviews about this place, we booked an apartment for a week and had high expectations, however the reality did not measure up. The first impression of Sol cala D'Or from outside is of a tired looking place with a shabby exterior. (The same could be said about Cala D'Or in general).Although the apartment was large and quite well equipped, the bedroom was very dark and damp, with a permanent, strong, musty smell. There was plenty of wardrobe space, with a huge wardrobe in the lounge and the same in the bedroom, however the one in the bedroom was unusable on account of the overpowering smell of mothballs. The soft furnishings were all faded, and the sofa covers were stained. Maid service was good - the linen was changed after a few days and we had adequate supply of clean towels. We didn't use the bar or restaurant, though on the last day when waiting for our coach transfer I went to get a drink from the bar but waited for 15 minutes with no sign of any member of staff at all so gave up. There is a "supermarket" attached to the apartments but it is poorly stocked and the girl who works there is not friendly or interested. Some parts of Cala D'Or are reminiscent of Blackpool Pleasure Beach (especially the horrendous looking "Jungle Bar" & "The Dif'Rent Bar") and most bars will appeal to the "Brit Abroad" who likes to sit with his pint wearing his football shirt, watching live football on TV. Having said that there are some good restaurants, especially "Fernando's" next to Ibiza plaza, "Don Leone" and "Es Caliu". Don't bother visiting the overpriced "La Bodega", where the dishes that are served to you don't quite match the descriptions on the menu. The closest beaches to the town (Cala Gran & Cala D'Or)are not as smart as Cala Esmerelda and Cala Ferrerra which are no more than ten minutes walk away and worth visiting, as is the harbour, which has a number of restaurants overlooking it.

Overall Hotel Rating:
You can't beat these apartments for value for money,we were in room 127 which was ground floor right onto the pool which was very clean and well maintained. Ideally situated for the cala gran beach (5 mins down road) come out of main door and turn right across the road to some steps, these will take you over a bridge to the tropical gardens which has entertainment every night for families (drinks a little dear), carry on over bridge up steps and small incline and you will reach the shops and bars, recommend Cheers for good value meals. Turn left outside apartment main doors and you will pass mallocaland a play area for the kids.Another good place to eat up there is Walshies (try the steak pie), further up that road are more bars and shops,so in all apartments are right in the middle of the resort. The Pirates show is not to be missed (book with reps). Have a ride on the train that goes right around the resort (only 3 euros) and it will take you down to the marina. Had a great holiday, excellent resort and apartments would highly recommend trying here.
"Sol Cala D'or Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just back from 10 night stay in the Sol Cala D'Or. Please don't believe all you read. My family and I would definitely not recommend these apartments.
Extremely basic and very cramped. Only 1 wardrobe to share with 4 people. Room was dark, dingy and very musty. Mattresses were like bricks. One bedroom apartment tiny - living area is combined with kitchen, dining table and sofa beds -too crammed to cook anything in. Our room was ground floor next to the bar area - which meant that every night you would have people chatting in the bar area just outside your bedroom window! We were fortunate enough to get moved after the 2nd night to a slightly brighter less noisy room.
Surrounding pool area very dirty. Sun beds cost 2.5 euros each and had to queue at 8am in the morning to get one. Hot water runs out quickly - we have family of 4 and last person always had cold shower.
I would say this is more like a 2* and definitely not 3*.
Cala D'Or excellent resort for families loads of bars and restaurants to choose from, beautiful beaches close by and lovely marina. Town centre car free so defintely great for families.
Would definitely book up again to this resort next year - but not these apartments. Everyone we spoke to was complaining.
This is the first time ever on holiday that the complimentary room to shower in after check out (11am) was the public toilet area used by people using the bar and pool area. There was 10 of us checking out and we were told to use the baggage room to change in!

"Sol Cala D'or Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Faultless. Good location, friendly staff, restaurant cheaper than and as good as any in resort and there's loads to choose from. Karaoke bars nearby, but they stop on the stoke of midnight as does all outside noise, maybe it's a bylaw, anyway we slept soundly every night. We prefer the beach, and there's a choice of two nearby, but getting sun beds wouldn't have been a problem and the hotel was full.
No one tried to force a scratch card on us or tried to drag us into a bar or restaurant the entire week and we didn't miss the stag / hen parties and drunks that you see elsewhere on the island. All in all a great resort for couples or those with toddlers looking to relax, but not so good for families with teenagers and far too grownup for single sx groups.
"Sol Cala D'or Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from Cala D'Or, stayed at the Sol Cala D'Or apartments.
Cala D'or is a beautiful resort with stunning beaches. There are a few main beaches but i would recommend the largest, Cala Gran - the sea was turquoise ..real picture postcard. Cala Ferrera was also nice but the sea was not so good and sunbeds cost slightly more (12 Euros and opposed to 11.60).The resort itself was not as quiet as i thought - many shops, bars and restaurants. The marina is fantastic and the restaurants there, are by far the best - i recommend Zocalo, Acaurius and Blanco Y Negro. We ended up eating there every night except for one, when we ate in the town. I would say that Cal D'Or is an older persons resort, although there were some livelier bars / clubs if needed.
We stayed in a studio overlooking the pool. Basic but spotlessly clean. I would recommend asking for high floor (if no kids) and one overlooking pool - some rooms overlook the road and therefore you could end up listening to the dreaded karoke every night!Overall brill holiday and i would thoroughly recommend this resort and apartments.

"Sol Cala D'or Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We chose this accomodation after reading reviews on various websites. We booked independently and saved loads, 2 weeks for the 3 of us cost us under £800 with transfers, insurance etc. It was our 1st time to cala d'or, it's quiet, good for families. There are lots of nice restaurants, plenty shops, the marina is worth visiting, and it's a good idea to go on 1 of the road trains to see the town.
The apartment was great, spacious for the 3 of us, a queen sized bed!!, and working air con. The only negative was that there was no daytime or night entertainment, our son particularly missed this. There was no problem getting a sunbed around the pool at any time of the day, but this may have been because it was early in the season. Also there is a sun terrace on the top floor with a hot tub, which few people seemed to know about so was lovely to spend some quiet time there. We had a good time and would recommend these apartments to anyone.
