"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Although we enjoyed our weeks stay at the Tordos, we spent most days on the beach. I don't think I would return to this hotel. If your idea of a good holiday is drinking all day in a replica of a working man's club and eating junk food, then you will have a good time. Kids running round shouting F*** this, F*** that and that was the eleven year old girls! The women had some interesting tattoos though.
The night time entertainment at the Tordos was dire. Six nights of the staff miming and getting guests to participate in silly games and one professional act, a comedian who was surprisingly very good.
More acts were on at the Mirlos though, obviously the bar there is not All Inclusive.
Food was average, had worse, and had better.
Would return to Palma Nova again, but would choose a different Hotel.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The initial flight was delayed by 2 hours cos of the french air strike but the pilot kept us informed.
On Arrival at palma airport we were greeted by the travel city direct rep and transferred 2 the hotel.
All the Staff were very pleasant.
Food was very nice but sometimes repetative.
kids enjoyed the kids clubs n even met fred and dino.
Pool very nice. rooms nice but would of been betta with bunk beds for kids.
All in all a very good time was had.
Met up with a really nice family from rotherham.
Lots of shops very reasonably priced.
beach very close and really nice small fish in sea swimming round ur feet but very nice indeed..

Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a really great holiday at the Sol Tordos -
Food - Plenty to choose from at all times of the day and night you will never go hungry even if it is chip butties! All the staff were very friendly and the seating area decked out in Flintstones for the kids to the rear of the restraunt was fun so people without children could sit away if they wished.
Drink - Local drinks just as good as the brand names bars open 10 - 1 so you never missed out. Service was friendly and quick due to the rule of only giving you drinks for the number in your groups.
Hotel - The hotel was spotless and caters very well for children with plently of activities for all ages. Rooms slightly small but cleaned daily with fresh towels.
A 2 minute walk from a beautiful clean beach with plenty of water activities if you want them
Laundry - There was a room with iron/board washing machine and dryer self service.
The only downside and it was quiet a big one - There were over a thousand guests and over 300 rooms so you had to q for everything - q for food q for lifts q for drinks etc and the only way to get near the pool was to set an alarm for 5am, seriously people should be less selfish if you are not intending to use sun loungers for a while give others a chance rather than sticking a towel on a bed and coming back a few hrs later.
Resort - The hotel is located approx 10 minute walk from the main Magaluf area which we thought would be really loud and full of idiots but we were pleased to say it wasnt altho the touts need to calm down a bit they seem tooooooo desperate to drag you in to the pubs.
All in All a fantastic hotel and location would definatly return.

Stayed in the hotel Sol Mirlos and it is a great Hotel maid service every day the rooms are a bit small but ok for laying your head down. The food is excellent and i can not see how any one could fault it,some food is cooked in front of you so you known it is fresh and not been there for hours there was always something there for everyone loads of different meats ie pork /steak /chicken/ fish/leg of lamb most nights there was a carvery.
Could not say what the entertainment in the Hotel was like because we did not stay in .
There are plenty of great bars around the hotel.
Palma Nova is alovely resort and you can sit and whatch the world go by

Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just returned from a two week stay at the Hotel Sol Mirlos with mixed feelings to say the least. The holiday was first off to a bad start by a chartered flight delayed by two hours but designed to pick up all the leftovers of the day. This was to be repeated on the return journey as the homegoing flight was also delayed by about five and a half hours but this posed a great sight seeing opportunity of palma airport.
Anyway onto our stay, first couple of days fine, entertainment a bit repeatative mostly mimmed disney films and soundtracks but acts brought in were mainly woefull but what do you expect you're on holiday. Beware of the pushing spanish who at every opportunity push you out of the way mainly at breakfast and evening mealtime maybe that is normal but after a while it gets frustrating. Another observation is that at the grille the staff will give to their compatriots food just cooked but the english have to pick from the plate and on some occaisions use the microwave.
The pool was small but nothing compared to the sister hotels pool which resembled a beehive constantly full from morning to late evening. We were half board staying at the Mirlos but the adjoining hotel was all inclusive which can also annoy when you bump into the beermonsters with their plastic glasses always full.Despite all this we did enjoy our stay although our room could have done with airconditioning instead of the overhead fan and we could not leave our patio door open due to the constant hum of the receptions air con units which ran 24/7.

"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Went to the Sol Mirlos in August this year for a fortnight. Thought I'd share a few thoughts about the place.
In view of a lot of the comments I have read from other reviews I must confess that we found the hotel something of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong,it's not awful by any means but not anything torave about either. Palma Nova, on the other hand, is a wonderful resort;and being linked to Magaluf, gives you the best of both worlds.
So, the hotel, what can i say? Room comfortable, adequate but rather small. Lack of tv not a major issue. Lack of air conditioning was a problem. The fan really doesn't deal with the heat in August. Interested reading other reviews that the Tordos has tv's and air conditioning in rooms! Bathroom nice, balcony okay but with a view of the bins and naff hill. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Rooms cleaned regularly as was the hotel in general. Nice bar although the low ceiling made it very smokey. Enough has been said already about the lifts. It wasn't a major problem. Mind, we were on the fourth floor. Wouldn't have wanted to be on the ninth.
Kids clubs were very good. Had a lovely creche were you could leave kids up to four as long as you signed them in and left a contact point. Not really suitable for a child of three or four mind. That said our four year old was able to join the Bam Bam club. The playground was very poor. The only picture on the hotel website under ";Entertainment"; is a playground that does not exist. Hmmm. There is also a section of the dining room dedicated to Bettys Kitchen where you can with the kids and it has nicely decorated tables with table mats that are Flintstones colouring pictures with crayons.
Pool areas are cramped and hardly very relaxing. Most of this was what we expected from previous reviews but there are two issues on which I would radically disagree with the majority of previous comments. Firstly food....ughhhh. It wasn't actual awful but the choice was very limited. Breakfast had lovely sausages but stringy bacon and vile coffee from a machine. Worst coffee ever tasted at a hotel. Still drank it though - drowned in sugar. The wife couldn't stomach it though. Queues for toast and eggs and very limited at that. Dinner was very limited as well. 14 nights of chicken mcnuggets and chips and I wasn't eating at MacDonalds!!! No theme nights and boy, did a buffet ever need a theme night.
But the biggest disappointment of all was dessert. I have known a buffet restaurant which has such a lousy selections of puddings. The jelly was nice! And, Then, Secondly: The staff. A very mixed bag. The bar staff were really pleasant and friendly, excellent staff. The childrens entertainment were pleasant but mainly to the kids - which is the important thing. Don't expect to get much information about the clubs from the Mirlos. It was very clear that Tordos guests were kept much better informed. You got a friendly welcome at the door at the entrance to the restaurant but that's it. What a surly gang they were in there. And mind you don't get in their way.....But we were very surprised at what a miserable bunch they were at reception. Never known that at a hotel before.
Perhaps the best thing of all about the hotel is that it is in a very good location within an excellent resort. Palma Nova was lovely. Combined with Magaluf they were everything we could have wished for. Magaluf has one large beach, Palma Nova three smaller ones. The hotel is located between two of Palma Nova's beaches: Son Matias beach (which is the closest to Magaluf) and Palma Nova beach. It is about a five minute walk from the beaches, if that. Plenty of shops and bars to choose from, especially in the area joining Palma Nova to Magaluf, on the fringe of Torrenova. The Palma Nova MacDonalds on the small headland Palma Nova and Carregador beach. Our favourite local bar was ";El Mecca";. Pleasant staff, lovely comfortable chairs with nice parasols keeping off the sun. Basically, leave the hotel by the front entrance and turn left. You soon reach it. Oh, and they give lollies out to the kids although many of the bars do that to.
All in all we had a really nice holiday just a bit disappointed with the Mirlos. Intend to go the Santa Lucia when we return when the kids are a bit older.

"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Arrived 6th August 2005 for 13 nights. Got there at midnight a/i on till 1am so had time for few drinks before going to bed, the hotel was very full. next day went down for breakfast which was full english the toast machines were a pain as the toast had to go through 3 times, if you were there early that was not a problem but afetr 9am it took ages to queue. main problem was that you could not take drinks out of the dining room so if you wanted a coffee to take to the room till other members of the family woke you had no chance. bars didnt open till 10am.Breakfast and lunch waiter service was not very good at 1 point we had 9 dirty plates on our table and if you tried to clean your own table the waiters were not happy and told you so.
Lunch was nice enough plenty of choice or so we thought till we went for dinner then we found out it was the same as lunch so maybe hours old, but plenty of choice chicken, turkey every night, sometimes lamb, pork in a orange sauce (horrible) steak,a choice of some sort of fish every night, chips with mash or jacket potatoes. pizza, pasta and some veg every night, puddings was some sort of slop every night. Hotel staff....Bar staff helpful most of the time although sometimes when we went to the bar for 4 drinks they would not give 4 drinks they said it was not possible to have 4 people in 1 room but we did 2 adults and 2 kids. this happened to a lot of guests that we talked to.needless to say that at the end of our holiday when they were shaking thier tip tin for a tip they didnt get one.
the hotel was full of welsh people so if you like the welsh then you will like it there, stay away anne robinson!!!!
entertainment...well fred came out twice a day never saw him at night, the entertainment staff tried thier best with water pollo, volley ball, shooting.kids clubs...mine were 7 and 9 didnt go to the kids clubs so cant comment on them. but there was 3 computers so they could go on the internet 2 euros for half hour or 3 euros for 1 hour, well there was 3 computers at the start of the holiday but only 1 worked at the end. there was 2 playstation games aswell but they seemed to get trashed aswell.
night entertainment..... well pretty naff really it was thier own entertainment team miming to songs or a naff circus act. if they got the kids to learn a show they used to put it on in the sister hotel sol mirlos which was not a/i so you had to pay for drinks to watch your own kids.location.......not far from the beach, a very nice beach a bit crowded but it was august.
attractions...... went to western water park 42 euros for 2 adults and 2 kids walked to the park took about 40 mins nice walk through magaluf, had a nice day good rides, good shows only be early for the shows, take a packed lunch.
54 hole golf......was good too if you havent got cheating kids that cant stand to lose......take your own lunch.
as the holiday went on you found out you had to be up early for a sunbed the pool is way too small for a a/i hotel. you had to be out and had your dinner for at the latest 6.30pm to get a seat for the night.but would we go again.........................well i would have to say.......YES cause if you get your wits about you and get out early and dont want much sleep then you will be ok in this hotel. but saying that i have stayed in sol hotels before half board mind and this is the worst of them all, but once they've got you they'got you and only a fool is going to go and pay for food and drink thats already paid for. arnt they??????????????????

Overall Hotel Rating:
I booked this holiday as a late deal through first choice. I Was worried as i had never taken a late deal before, what i was in for.
We arrived at the hotel Mirlos to be greeted by friendly and helpfull staff, the rooms were spacious and very clean no air conditioning in the rooms though, but an overhead fan did the job nicely.
The hotel is one of two sister hotels the mirlos being half board and the tordeos being all inclusive. The Hotel its self was very clean and tidy and was always some one around cleaning and polishing somewhere.
The bar is stocked well and they go out there way to help you. The entertainment was good although not for everyone.
The food is 4* always a choice, hot and excellent tasteing, ample for the kids choice too with pizza, chips, chicken nuggets, fish fingers etc. buffett style but steaks, spag bol, etc fabulous
ample to do 5 minute walk from beach and shops, fantastic if looking for a relaxed holiday overall fantastic def go back booking up for next year 2006 for a fortnight. Only thing i would say is if you want a sun lounger at the pool you have to get up at seven in the morning to put your towels out so that you get one although im quite sure some people left them out over night.
over all excellent hotel with plenty to do, very clean and the kids club and hotel is centered around the flintstones theme fantastic dont think twice go for it!!!!!

"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
A couple of years ago we stayed in the Sol Mirlos. Out of the two I preferred the Mirlos. Simply because the Tordos is like Butlins in the Sun. It's a typical holiday where the Parents are busy drinking/sunbathing around the pool and the kids are left to their own devices. We preferred to go to the beach everyday as it is literally a 2 min walk. It's clean and safe for the children. There is not a lot of room around the pool and unless you are prepared to get up before 8am to put your towel down (and I mean the British not the Germans) then you have a slim chance of getting a sun lounger. Also at Dinner Time (around 6pm) they are selecting their tables ready for the evening entertainment.
The staff are friendly on reception (apart from the odd one) and on the bar. Drinks are not fab (especially the wine) but acceptable.
We were on the 9th Floor (not brilliant but someone gotta be there). We had air conditioning but found it just made a noise rather than cooled the room down, however, Tesco Clubcard came in handy to leave in the slot to keep the ceiling fan going, which was a godsend when returning from the beach. Rooms are small, we had bunk beds and the staff were very accomodating when we asked for extra bed guards.
Food was ok, found we had more choice and better quality food when staying in the Mirlos, it was a case of they're all inclusive so we'll give them the cheap stuff. It was all edible, and a fair choice.
If I had any comlplaints, it would be the lifts (only two) not a lot you can do but be patient, especially on the 9th floor. Also the snacks are confined to the restaurant which would be nice if you could take them out whilst watching the entertainment.
Entertainment staff very good, my children enjoyed it anyway.
All in all a very good holiday, I would definitely return to Palma Nova (been the last 3 years) but prefer the Sol Mirlos. If you can handle other people's kids running riot it's a great hotel.
It's very clean and well run though.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Just come back from two weeks in Palma Nova, Sol Tordos Hotel. Had a brilliant time.
The entertainment staff were one of the best we have seen. They worked tremendously hard day and night and got adults and children to participate and enjoy themselves. The food (all inclusive for us) was superb. There was a variety everyday (except breakfast which was always the same choice, but a choice for everyone). My son (6) particularly liked going up and pouring his own drinks and choosing his own dinners everyday!!
The only let-down was the room and lifts in the hotel. The room was way too small for a family of 4 and were your basic bog-standard room, although they were very clean and always cleaned everyday with new towels. BEWARE - there are only 2 SMALL lifts in the entire hotel and if you have a pushchair / wheelchair and are not on 1st floor, you will be waiting a while for the lifts!!
We went from 15th to 29th July, but I would not recommend going in the school hols as our last week was manic!! They were kids everywhere and my husband had to set his alarm every morning for 7.30 am to get a sunbed around the pool!! A few times we ventured to the beach (and if you are AI you can take a packed lunch, just make sure you order it for your party from reception the night before). The beach is literally only 5 mins out of the back gate of the hotel and it is one of the best beaches we have been too. Our 2 children age 6 and 2 loved Fred Flinstone and Dino Dinosaur walking around the hotel every day and YABADABADOOO was a regular saying!!!!
I would definetly recommned this hotel to anyone and would definetly go back to it. Our youngest (2) would not go into the Children's Club (0 to 4 years) so that made it a little difficult for us as the other one was in kids club every day!! We didnt go around the bars in night in Palma Nova but there is plenty of nightlife for all. All in all, we had an excellent time and would definetly go back.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a weeks holiday at the absolutely fantastic SOL TORDOS. Food was excellent plenty of choice even for my fussy 12 year old.You were not restricted on drinks and could have anything, you could eat and drink from 8.00am to midnight. Kids clubs were really good and the entertainers worked very hard. I'll miss my 1.00pm dances with dino everyday!!
Room was a bit on the small side for 4 but we only slept in it. Only 2 lifts and you could wait a while for one but only a problem if you made it one. I was surprised that even with over 1,000 people in the hotel we never had to wait long to be served at the bar as they have so many people working behind it.
Restaurant was never too busy and very clean.Pool area is a bit small for the size of the hotel but you can use the pool at the Sol Mirlos next door and that was quieter. If you are thinking of going to a waterpark Aqualand is better if you have a young child more to keep them occupied but still plenty of larger slides and activities if you have an older child.Pirates in Magaluf is a must a bit pricey but worth every penny.

"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks with my Husband and friends.
HOTEL
The hotel is in an absolutely fantastic position. about 3 minutes walk into the centre of palma nova and only about 10 minutes walk into the centre of magalluf. (more like one big resort - had problems working out which one we were in half the time !!)
We didnt book this hotel specifically as we got a deal which meant we could have ended up in any of the Sol Hotels - really glad we ended up in this one, purely because of the position.
FACILITIES
The reception lounge is huge and air-conditioned. The desk is open 24 hours a day and the staff are really friendly and can speak quite good english. The Bar is also really big, open till quite late and not overly expensive (although the prices for the same round of drinks cost different amounts everytime we ordered them!!) We didnt really stick around too much for the entertainment as it seemed quite kiddy orientated butlins-esque party games. The flintstones themed kids clubs were quite noisy in the day time but it seemed like they were having loads of fun -N.B. if you request a sea view room, you will also be overlooking the area where they are mostly based.
ROOMS
rooms in the hotel were absolutely fantastic. bathroom was plenty big enough - maids came every single day and came back later if the do not disturb sign was out. balcony was ok. big enough for table and 2 chairs. only downfall was the lack of air-con in the rooms. there was a ceiling fan which was ok in june but not sure how effective it would be when it gets hotter in august !!
FOOD
Food itself was ok. Restaurant was more like a school dinner canteen. not a particularly nice and relaxed atmosphere!! - probably good for kids tho.
Would probably avoid going as soon as they open coz all the grannies are waiting at the door ready to rush in!
RESORT
FAB - would reccommend this resort to anyone. Good mix of families, couples, OAP's, and groups. We went on a few days out - best waterpark is the western one, cost us 7 euros in a taxi from the hotel.
Marineland was about the same (also a really good day out). Palma is about 20 euros in a taxi and is a really beautifull city - we went twice. Got the old fashioned train from Palma to Soller (11 euros return) - well worth it. absolutely stunning scenery on the way.
Golf Fantasia was really good - easy walking distance and is better to do in an evening when its cooler.
Had a really good holiday. no worries about recommending it.

"Hotel Sol Mirlos / Tordos review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Have returned today from our 1st time abroad, I went as a single mom, hubby was on a fishing holiday and took my two daughters, one is a very awkward teenager and the youngest loves to have fun.
Wasnt sure what to expect after reading all the reveiws on here, but i'm glad i read them but i also went with a very open mind.
Went with Travel City Direct and went all inclusive, the transfers and flights were superb both ways no problems at all, the reps were there to meet us and made us feel very much at ease and showed us what to do.
The hotel was absolutly lovely, it was spotlessly clean day and night, the food was wonderful with a lot of variety at all meal times, the bars and staff were friendly and always very polite and quick to serve, you didnt have to wait in long queues often. Our room was spotless although very small, but as a base spotless was good enough for us with tv, air con and a huge ceiling fan, (we had very high temps this week)you can also pay and hire a safe which i advise and also i was advised to take an old credit card or something like ( i took my matalan Card) and when you leave your room and remove your swipe card if you put it in place of your swipe card your fans stay on in your room which is a godsend when the weather is hot.
The kids loved the entertainment, which was on day and night so if you want a quiet holiday with no kids dont come here. The pool area is fairly small but there are lots of loungers and tables and chairs but to be honest you are a two minute walk from a wonderful clean beach which has loungers which you can hire for 7 euros for two loungers all day.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and i would recommend it to anyone with children who wants to have lots of fun to go here.
Also before i go to anyone who loves a great night out, go to visit PIRATES in magaluff all the hotels book visits to the shows and although it is a little expensive its the most fantastic show we have ever been too. I'd just like to say to anyone who reads this who may have been part of us having such a fantastic holiday, THANKYOU and we'll see you all next year if not sooner.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Fantastic value for money hotel - we booked on the internet and paid half the brochure price. Rooms a decent size and clean, only problem - no air conditioning. Pool a bit on the small side but this doesn't matter too much when you're so close to the lovely beach. We're both very fussy eaters and found plenty to eat at each meal. A lot of the food is cooked to order in front of you.
We'd definitely return to this hotel.
