I did enjoy the resort, we explored the Square first, yes, it was packed, with little bars and restaurants surrounding, but I found the acts a bit 'naff'. Ok, they were copy bands, but just thought they would be a bit more professional. After a couple of days, we went into 'Town', far more livlier, we found 'Berties' which has a bar and bouncy castle, cars, kids stuff etc (we have a 2 yr old) then we went to Strings Bar, the band was great, changing the music nighly and audience participation. Really enjoyed here. We called in other bars, which had Irish Music and we enjoyed. We found Maxwells cafe, a short walk from the Jardin, was fab for a full English brekkie, choose what items you want or dont want! Simple. We did walk to the beach for the first week, it is a bit of a walk, ok downhill, but not so back, but my 2 yr old was not impressed with the sand, and when the wind picked up, that was it, he'd had enough! So the second week was spent by the pool! Plus, I got stung by a jellyfish after my first dip in the sea, on my first day, after 10 seconds in!!!Owwwwwww! The resort was very friendly, accomodating, we caught a bus to Western Park Water Park, which was a bit dated but the high water slides were still fun. I would definately come back, it's not even been a week since I have left and we've seen the pics, viewed our videos and wish we were right back there now!!!!

The Square is interesting at night with different entertainment each night & a choice of bars surrounding it,this is in the Costa de la Calma area a short walk from the main beach in Santa Ponsa. There is a fiesta at the beginning of September each year & there was music on a stage next to the beach until early morning, it was fascinating to see people of different nationalities experiencing it and staying out late. The firework display is not to be missed.Plenty of bars for drinking or meals we liked Sherezade overlooking the beach. The buses leave to places like Palma,Magaluf from a small terminus near the beach.Plenty of entertainment choices but you can get away from al the noise if you want a quieter time.Lovely strolling along the beach on a warm evening window shopping unless your wife is with you. Okay for children as well.

"Hotell Rey Don Jaime Santa Ponsa"

Submitted in October 2008 by: Mrs Susan Whiting

A lovely resort to suit all tastes. Plenty of places to eat, clubs for those that want them but up one end of the resort so not in your face if you don't want them. Very clean resort and easy to get around on bus or by car.

OverallAverage Hotel

Recently returned from a stay at the Rey Don Jaime. We booked with Thompson and thought this was a 4* Hotel. It is not! The 4 ticks, as we were advised by the Rep was customer review score. Well I have to say we disagree. On first sight the Hotel is ple...

Santa Ponsa is beautiful, we have stayed in Santa Ponsa for the last 4 years. Would totally recommend this resort and the festival that is on at the end of August/beginning of September

The hotel ifself was clean and well positioned. There are not enough loungers around the pool. The food in the hotel was really bad and the staff in the restaurant were really rude. We stood around many times waiting for tables to be cleared, only to hav...

This was our 6th trip to Majorca and the first time to Santa Ponsa. We did not eat out as we were half board. Generally cocktails were around 5 euros, there was a bar where all drinks were 2 euros and the cocktails in there were fine but the beer was not great. In Strings you could get 2 pints of beer and 2 pints of cocktails all for 11 euros. They also had live entertainment – the in house girl group and boy group were very good but they had a Tina Turner tribute on one night and she was terrible. In the square all cocktails were 5 euros so we ended up getting a litre jug between 2 of us for 12 euros as it worked out cheaper. Ultimately you are paying for the live entertainment. Each night they have something for the kids at the start of the night followed by an act (usually a tribute act) in the interval there are audience participation games then the act continues. We saw the following tributes: Westlife – excellent, Abba – good, Madonna – terrible, Bee Gees – bad, Rod Stewart – excellent, Drifters – ok plus Disney Dream factory which was very good. When the act finishes the looky-looky men descend like vultures. I bought a watch which started out at 40 euros for 7 euros. Just say no thanks and they will move on to the next person. Do not under any circumstances pay the full price that they ask for unless you have more money than sense! This is the first time I have seen numerous people with dogs in a holiday resort and watch out for dog poo on the pavements if you walk up towards the marina. Can’t comment on the beach as we never went. One thing we did do was go to Pirates Adventure in Magaluf. Even though we have been to Majorca 5 times before we had never been and my goodness it is FANTASTIC!!! It seems expensive when you book your ticket but it is worth it. I lost count of how many times I said “oh my god” or “wow”. Be warned, the seats are pretty uncomfortable but a sore bum and/or back is a small price to pay for such an amazing show.

OverallExcellent Hotel

This is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. It's in a good location near to the beach and to the shops, a short walk to the lively nightlife and a 15–20 minute walk to more family orientated entertainment at “the square”.

ROOMS– we booked ou...
