Booked the holiday as a last moment on teletext after reading the reviews on this site. Where did everyone else stay!!I know that it was early in the season and the weather was bad but the hotel did not live up to expectations.

Yes it is in typical spanish style! Dark dirty wood was every where. The rooms were not clean-we had two after the next door became occupied by 'special needs' and became very noisy!!The dining room was cold and as a result the food (not hot at the best of times) cooled down rapidly. Whilst the choice of food was good I dodnot thiink that it was 3 star. I have stayed at for example the Hotel Atlantic all inclusice in Es Cana , a two star with better food.

The pool area was not cleaned and the outside stage was derelict and dirty. The entertainment in the evening was reasonable but be warned the chairs are very low, the drinks expensive and the air contaminated by heavy smokers!!!The reps tried hard to uplift the 'aged' audience but given that nothing was happening until 10pm with the weather bad the least they could have done was put some music on.

On a positive note the staff on recepetion were very helpful in changing rooms and spoke good english. The maids had a habit of leaving the patio windows unlocked (opening them had a habit of allowing the mosquitos in!)Outside the front of the hotel is a gully which had a back up of sea weed etc which attarcetd the mosquitos- be warned and take enough repelnat to last you.

Outside the Hotel, whilst quiet for early season there are a large number of good 'pubs' and retsuarants in the 'Irish' quarter offering good value meals especially in Mrs Murphys.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, I think that you forgo home comforts when you go away you donot have to suffer badly insulated(noise) rooms with dirty interiors and exteriors as well.

we had never been to santa ponsa before and we would not hesitate to go back there. the hotel rey don jaime is fantastic, the food is brilliant , loads of choice every meal time, the hotel is spotless and the staff very friendly, there are plenty of bars and we found one that had bouncy castles, video games playstations and a little fair to keep the children entertained, brilliant holiday, the only drawback was that to walk around the resort you had to go uphill to get to anywhere, but great hotel good beach, boat ride well worth the money, excellant holiday.

santa ponsa well what can i say! it was absolutely briliant! our first holiday away without parents and we chose the best resort! at night, cheeko's has the best atmosphere, and the PR's up the irish centre are all great! all the pubs are a good laugh, esp simplys, manhattans and greenhills! fama has to be the best nightclub with a brilliant mix of music n the people are great(i miss it!!)!

santa ponsa has a great atmosphere, evryone woz so friendly n its not just for young people, families would enjoy it too! i would defo recommend it for young people esp in summer and also familes too. the nightlife is just right, not too in your face, and you can relax during the day coz the beach is gorgeous! restaurants n shopping are great 2! i'll defo be going bak in the near future! the rey don jaime was a lovely hotel, very clean and the rooms were adequate (however maybe not big enough for 3 17 year old girls!), also very safe with security guards on the doors at all times which was good 2 know!11 out of 10 for evrything!

Well the Rey Don Jaime is an absolutly amazing hotel.

I was really impressed by the friendly hotel staff and the cleanliness of the room, it was cleaned every day and fresh towels brought too. The food was ok, there was plenty of choice most nights if you went down early enough, on our first night we went down at 10 to 9 and there wasnt much left. The Breakfasts were fantastic though. There was everything you could possibly want.

The hotel pool was really nice and clean and we didnt have to fight for sun loungers at all but then we didnt stay around the hotel that much as the beach was so fantastic! hiring sunbeds and umbrellas came up to about 7.50 Euros for both of us which mounts up over the holiday but it was worth it as the beach was beautifull and the sea was really warm.

As you have to be over 21 to hire a car, we hired a moped, for me this was the best bit of the holiday. The countryside surrounding santa ponca was breathtaking and it was really fun driving along in the sun and a good way to cool off aswell! It cost about 25 euros to hire the bike with a full tank of petrol for 24 hours. We also went to aqua city which was good although we felt we may have been ripped off a bit by thompson and it may have been cheaper to make our on way there but not as convinient.

Also we went to Palma where i had been promised loads of cheap designer goods and amazing shopping but found none of this. We must have been looking in the wrong place. However Palma is a really nice city just to take a walk around a taxi there cost us 17 euros each way. There are loads of really nice bars in santa Ponca all really friendly and fairly cheap but for 7 euros you can get a taxi to Magaluf where there is amazing nightlife. BCM is great. 19 euros to get in but only 1 euro for each round all night! loads of top DJs there when we went to! Be warned though if you go to a foam party taxi drivers will not let u in their cab!

Overall we had a brill time in Majorca. Santa Ponsa is perfect for young couples who want nighlife but not too in your face. But i would recomend the Rey Don Jaime to anyone! Full marks!

We had a lovely holiday, and would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we received a very warm welcome and felt at ease. The staff on reception were excellent, very professional and courteous the hotel exceeded our expectations of a three star, the food was of a high standard, and was beautifully presented. We were presented with a birthday cake whilst there to celebrate my Mothers Birthday, this was a very kind gesture of the Hotel.

The Hotel was kept very clean, and all the public rooms as well as bedrooms were immaculate. The entertainment was excellent all staff worked very hard particularly David the waiter in the bar. The service bt Thomson was excellent from booking the holiday right through to the end.

The reps in the Hotel were excellent very professional, approachable and friendly. Our holiday at the Hotel rey don jaime was a very pleasant and memorable one.

Very impressed by the reception area of the Hotel, staff greeted us with a friendly welcome. Rooms are basic and your lucky if you get a view from your balcony as most of the rooms seem to be facing what looked like air conditioning units? Food wasn't that great a wide selection but everything did seem to taste as if it had been cooked in the same pot! Wear flat shoes to dinner as the floor is so slippery we saw three people fall over one lady cutting her hand open on a glass.

Drinks in the bar are very expensive but the entertainment was very good so it is worth staying around for one of the evening shows.

If you have children the dolphin and parrot park is a must. There isn't much for young children so we were limited to what we could do. The beach is a 2 min walk very clean and we never had a problem finding a space.
We wasn't very impressed by Palma and had heard quite a few stories of bag snatches especially on buses, we returned from Palma by taxi which wasn't expensive and took a quarter of the time.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday but we won't be going back to Santa Ponsa as it didn't have enough entertainment for our 2 yr old.

Second time in Santa Ponsa. Went in September for 1 week - still lively from the summer. (Resort shuts down after October). Resort is very clean, and has a big beach. Sea was clean and quite warm. Activites to do on beach - pedalos, jet skis, banana boat, etc. (Have a listen for the green parakeets in the palm trees, on the beach - amazing sight). Boat trips from Santa Ponsa are great - we particularly enjoyed a trip round the coast on a Katamaran Cruise, it was brilliant. The Caves of Drach excursion, other side of island, is worth a visit. Did it through reps, but could have probably payed less in shops - but transport wouldn't have been included. Would also recommend Marineland, and Crazy Golf in Palma Nova - for the young and the old.

On entering the hotel, you are met by a large marble, air conditioned reception, with a security guard on the door. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The reps were there most of the times they said. The room was a good size, with a balcony. Air-Conditioning was available. The hotel is in a great location - only 3 minutes from the beach, local restaurants and bars. Food was buffet-style, very good on some nights. Note that the drinks in the hotel are a bit expensive. Pool was big enough, but it was hard to get a sunbed. Better going to the beach. The entertainment by the pool was good, especially for kids. Un-sure of entertainment on an evening, we went out most nights.

For nightlife, go right at the end of the hotel road, then right at the end of the beach road, and you will find Snoopy's bar and a couple of other bars hidden away - fairly cheap. Some club-pubs round the same place, just further round tne corner. Magalluf and Palma Nova are only 10 - 15 minutes bus/taxi ride away - really good night life. Buses can sometimes be un-reliable, but taxis can be expensive.

Overall, we really enjoyed the holiday and would definitely go back to Santa Ponsa again.

When I saw the don jaime in the brochure I was expecting a plush and comfortable hotel and was excited as I really wanted to go to santa ponsa.

Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed when I got there.!!!I

thought Santa ponsa was going to be lively but I was disappointed that it was full of kids karaoke and dodgy old men singing on a keyboard. The british bars have little atmosphere and old fashion music. The hotel itself was nothing like it looked in the brochure. It was fairly shabby outside with a very poor swimming pool that was rarely cleaned. The staff were miserable and on occasions very rude. I complained that the toilet in my room was leaking and their attitude was that they did not care. (it took them 3 days to come and fix it)

The food was ok but had little choice, although the flies seemed to be rather taken with the food!!!! The beach in santa ponsa was ok but it was not cleaned often enough. All in all it was a fairly disappointing holiday and I would not return to santa ponsa again!!!

What a brilliant holiday.

The hotel was exceptionally clean and the staff were exceptionally friendly. The air conditioned rooms were a welcome relief from the 40 degrees temperature outside! The food choice was great - we had 14 meals and only 3 were repeated. Restaurant Manager failed to inform us we could have reserved a table for our party of 7 each evening, until the last but one night - very helpful.

The resort is ok, but a very big influence by the Irish - thats ok, but not at 3.00am! Hotel does put a restriction on noise after 12 midnight, but there's still people who decide to wake everyone up by slamming their doors - could do with those door closure things. Great entertainment team at hotel.

Thomson Rep not that helpful, but the staff at reception and hotel reps were exceptional. Hotel reps put on some great entertainment, daytime and night time. Looking to go back again in October for a week, and would like to book next year as well. Can't book direct with hotel for 2 years now. Shame, because what the tour reps did for the holidaymakers wasn't worth paying for. Beach is very big, and the sea was very warm. Very safe for children, pedaloes etc., available. Very flat area. Loads of bars etc. Loads of restaurants.

Hotel was very good,I have never stayed in a hotel where the staff were so friendly and helpful.
One word of warning,do not go before mid April or after mid October...everywhere will be closed.
A friend and I went first week in October amd had a great time.

Payed £289 half board with Thomas Cooks, but luggage allowance only 15kgs,so be careful.
Plenty to do in resort,it's split into 3 parts,so always somewhere to explore.
Trees in the beach have hundreds of green quaker parakeets in them, really a sight to behold.
Would return to hotel Don R. anytime.

Hotel
Fabulous, clean, impressive, mega friendly staff and reps. Food was excellent. Drink on the expensive side though. Pool nice and clean, plenty of loungers and shade. Entertainment can't comment on as was not in the hotel at night during our stay but was informed by other guests that it was good.

Resort
Clean, fun place, loads of bars etc but if you have young kids then go to BURLINGTON BERTIES - the place is a god send. It is open from 1pm every day and has a multitude of uses. A fully licenced bookies which shows all horse and greyhound racing from uk and ireland. But the most important feature of this place is it has a huge indoor and outdoor childrens play areas. They have 4 or 5 staff who look after your kids while you enjoy a drink knowing your kids are very safe and very contented.

The staff are fabulous and have arts and crafts sessions, competitions, games face painting and the list is endless. They also have playstations, p.cs dvds and so on. The hosts Linda (the boss) and Peter (boss's husband) will make you feel very welcome - so welcome in fact we went there every night as it is so relaxing. There are loads of other bars and clubs but none have these facilities.

This is a great Hotel with very friendly staff and a very helpful Manager. The food is very good and plenty of it. The entire hotel staff go out of their way to help if they can and are always happy and cheerfull. We went to Pirates night out and it was fantastic, well worth the money. If you like 60s and 70s music then visit Steps bar,we also had a number of good nights at Strings and The Rovers Return. If you are eating out in the evening you must go to Crocodillo's for the friendly service and fantastic food .

This was our first visit to this hotel and to Santa Ponsa. The resort is very clean with a good beach, plenty of sun beds if you want to pay e7.50.The beach is very close to this hotel as are the local bars/restaurants and shops. There is an area called the square where there is live entertainment, most of the acts also tour the hotels, so you would see them anyway,You will pay a little on your bar bill for this entertainment, less in the other local bars, but both are cheaper than the hotel.

The 3 star hotel was no less and perhaps deserved more, friendly reception, helpful staff and very clean, all rooms are air conditioned and well kept,5 floors, 4 lifts and a seperate lift for wheelchairs/prams.

Food was excellent and well presented by the staff considering the hotel was full. No....the pool area isnt big enough, but they hardley ever are,the pool was fine but our only gripe was the enforced sun bed/parasol 100m dash every morning, caused by the doors being locked to the pool area and only opened at 0830 each morning. Fine if the by then, orderly line of guests walk to the pool to place their towels, which in the main they did, but was spoiled by persons at the rear running past the early risers to get the best beds. No doubt someone will get hurt if they havn`t already,in fairness the hotel did provide several new parasols for the second week, it was 120 in the shade.

The reps were energetic and tried hard, they were always helpful, there are games for the kids and actvities for the adults, the day usually ends with a game of water polo for the adults which looked good fun, it was more like all in wrestling with a ball, but everyone enjoyed it and no one ever got hurt,(the ladies are encouraged to join in). I spoke to plenty of people who had been to this hotel several times,we would stay here again.
